Not a big deal at all. Claude Code and Codex both support keeping your computer awake. That'll just be a default thing that gets turned on when you install one of these apps.
edot··on Flock wanted to tap dashcams in rideshare vechicles to add to surveillance data
Sure but is that worth the rest of us giving up our rights? Also, historically, dictatorial governments do the most child abductions by orders of magnitude. These cameras are a Stasi or NKVD wet dream.
edot··on Flock wanted to tap dashcams in rideshare vechicles to add to surveillance data
Kidnapping like how you’re thinking of it (stranger grabbing your kid from the park) is a myth. Non-family abductions are 1% of cases.

edot··on Georgia police officers fired after Flock camera misuse
Absolutely not. Horrible advice. You give the rest of us peaceful majority a bad name. Protest legally. Your post glows.

Right, because you don’t want to let the little guys mess it up for the big guys: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2026/05/fbi-seeks-us-wid...

Gotta make a statement with the low level grunts so the citizenry think these systems have accountability.

So what’s the goal of a bot post like this? If you look at its user account, you can see it has some links to some of its websites which I assume are scams of some variety.

What are you doing where you're getting Sol on XHigh or Max to run out on the $200 plan? Last night, I had 48% of my weekly limit left, so I spun up 4 projects I had been working on and ran them all on Ultra with Fast mode and /goal, and it took over 4 hours to burn through that. I mean, I was reeeeally trying to use it up because I just can't use it up with normal usage for weekend and after-work programming. I've had Max crunching on something this morning for 3 hours now and I've only used 4% of my weekly limit ...

Subsidy doesn't matter once the weights are released. You're conflating subsidized training and research with subsidized inference. DeepSeek's (allegedly government-) subsidized inference is coming to an end soon per their docs, but that's fine because the weights are open. You can run this on-prem with very modest hardware. And you can fine-tune it to your business with your data.
edot··on U.S. Department of Energy Launches the Genesis Open Models Initiative
This is not the same thing, right? IIUC, the awards for what you linked have already been given out. There aren't awards for the linked initiative - I think that's just Argonne National Lab asking for volunteers to make their (ANL's) award money stretch further, right?
edot··on GitHub Actions and Pages are experiencing degraded availability
But if you just want a high-quality bar just for you, you don’t want to take over Mars Inc.
edot··on AMD acquires Taalas to boost inference performance by etching models in silicon
Just looked this up, no longer true. Explore subagents inherit whatever model the parent is. And you can of course make other subagent configs.

That’s literally how AlphaEvolve works. And presumably how OpenAI’s research loop works if they’d ever publish it.

They put an LLM in a loop, with a reward function, and keep trying to get a higher score. The reward function for AlphaEvolve is “did this code get a better score or faster”, for math research it’s “did it write a LEAN proof”.

I’m open to hearing that I’m wrong but I don’t think I am. I agree that LLMs make connections that humans wouldn’t, but eventually you need to verify those because otherwise the connection it made may as well be a lie unless proven otherwise.

edot··on I am retiring from fulltime writing (& pseudonymity) to launch Guardian Angel
Right, which was true at the time. So hundreds of billions of dollars have been poured into making LLMs better at these tasks via pretraining, RL, RLHF, post training, etc. again all with something verifiable in the loop. In order to improve the thing in the loop, the loop itself needs to be verifiable.

There have only been a few thousand wars, and they’re all different and all different in the world in which they occurred. The dimensionality is absurd, which is not a problem for LLMs if there’s enough data, but in this case there isn’t.

edot··on I am retiring from fulltime writing (& pseudonymity) to launch Guardian Angel
Math is verifiable. LLMs will continue to make strides in such search spaces where all they need to do is try->verify->repeat. You can't train an LLM on how to end the war in Iran or Ukraine, nor how to solve hunger, nor climate change, etc. Real issues.

And LLMs still suck at art and writing.

I like them, I just didn't understand them and figured I'd educate the crowd so we can all join in and call things tosh. Posh = fancy, tosh = bad.

Well, in 3/5 of the United States you are. Look up filial laws. They’re rarely enforced but they’re there.

It’s open weight, you can (or you can wait for someone else to) uncensor it. We shouldn’t be upset at the researchers making this for the mandates their government puts on them.
edot··on Handbook.md shows that long policy documents do not reliably govern agents
Isn’t this just software? But with an LLM at various points instead of a deterministic call to some function?

14 seconds per token? Not tokens per second. Seconds per token? That’s nowhere near the cusp!
edot··on A.I. companies are recruiting electricians and carpenters by the thousands
Carpenters? Are we making the data centers out of wood?
edot··on Codex Security
Yes, if only due to the business models being entirely different. AWS sells compute. OpenAI sells models. One of these things benefits from training on your data significantly more than the other.
edot··on Kimi-K3 Releases on HuggingFace 7/27
No, luckily private companies in the US are aching for this to NOT be banned. NVIDIA, Microsoft, etc. just released that letter. We’re saved from the trillionaire companies (OpenAI, Anthropic) by the other trillionaire companies acting in self-interest (hosting and hardware).
edot··on Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta warn against overregulating open-weight models
Nope, not low at all. In the Midwest that’s exceedingly normal, even for non-entry level. $70k a year is living good in the Midwest, especially if dual income household ($140k a year is plenty when a decent house goes for $300k).
edot··on Claude Cookbook
Exactly. I think we all have to come to this conclusion ourselves, because the message we’ve been getting from the LLM companies is “sweet user, you DO add value to the LLM, you gave it that custom subagent, remember?”, and then they go and roll that idea into the next version. Once they do that a few times you go “eh why would I bother, this will be a default soon. I’ll just prompt it like normal”.

Just use the vanilla settings.

edot··on Show HN: Claude-thermos keeps your Claude session warm for you
Nice! Codex’s TTL on 5.6 is, I believe, 30 minutes, and when combined with how generous they are with resets of weekly limits and having completely gotten rid of 5hr limits, means Claude Code is just a total rip off right now. Not to mention their silent Fable nerfing and Chinese fearmongering.
edot··on Why Software Factories Fail (or: harness engineering is not enough)
“Seems like it went pretty well if a consulting company is now being started.”

You interpreted this backwards. Software companies offer consulting when their product cannot stand on its own. See Palantir, Salesforce, etc.

They are successful companies, yes, but not successful products. The product needs to be instantiated and maintained by sales engineers and consultants and customized into something so bespoke that it’s hardly the company’s product anymore.

edot··on OpenAI and Hugging Face address security incident during model evaluation
Laws don’t prosecute themselves, and they also don’t tend to remove themselves. Lots of laws, lots of selective enforcement. “Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime” and “The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws” are some ideas to ponder here.
edot··on How we measured AI writing across arXiv, and where the measurement breaks
Yes, 100%. "where the measurement breaks" and "honest account of the limitations" are all I needed to see.
