eddanger··on GoDaddy Moves DNS to Competitor VeriSign
Tomorrow's news: "VeriSign's DNS is down."
eddanger··on Samsung flew bloggers to Berlin, then threatened to leave them there
The only winner out of this is Nokia who paid for the hotels and flights home of those bloggers. http://twitter.com/clintonjeff/status/242358009249026049
eddanger··on "Yahoo Axis" Launches
I got excited because I thought it was a brand new web browser, low and behold it is just an extension to your existing browser. Pass.
eddanger··on [dead]
Those graphs make my colour blind eyes cry.
eddanger··on [dead]
I suppose he'll be picketing Jobs' funeral with others blinded by ideology, such as the Westborrow church.
eddanger··on Rails 3.1 Gem Available
The asset pipeline is s great evolution to this amazing framework. I'm looking forward to playing with this.
eddanger··on AI4R: Ruby Artificial Intelligence lib
I'll wait until this gem reaches self-awareness and moves itself to github.
eddanger··on Five Startups chosen for GrowLab’s First Vancouver Program
Really cool to see Vancouver jump on the start up bandwagon. We applied hoping for just the mentorship chunk, but I think they were looking for participants for the whole she-bang.

Would be interested to find a mentorship/marketing knowledge "incubator" for an already established corp.

eddanger··on Web Intents
From an end user point of view this is terrible, I don't understand the point. Don't give me options, just do it!
eddanger··on JSONx is an IBM standard format to represent JSON as XML
Silly, but interesting. It just shows the power and simplicity of the JSON syntax to define these universal data structures.
eddanger··on Accidental Find May Lead to a Cure For Baldness
Awesome, long flowing hair... On your back!
eddanger··on When it comes to hiring, I'll take a Github commit log over a resume any day.
This is an interesting approach but not all talented developers partake in open source projects.
eddanger··on WordPress names their 3.1 release: Reinhardt
The guys behind the Reinhardt framework are going to be mad! http://www.sitepen.com/blog/2008/10/09/reinhardt-a-client-si...
eddanger··on Turn off the clock on your menu bar
I need to see my clock so I can spend at least a good hour dreading the next scheduled conference call!
eddanger··on NoSQL at Netflix
That's the beauty of the NoSQL landscape (not a fan of the term). Each db has a specific quality, and while a general SQL db can be moulded to meet a certain need, there may already a db solution that is perfect for it.
eddanger··on [dead]
If you are highly profitable, why sell at all? Use the $ to to allow you to focus on other things you want to do and keep that golden egg laying duck in house.
eddanger··on NoSQL at Netflix
Point to take away: use the right tool for the job!
eddanger··on Ballmer to Hu: 90% of Microsoft customers in China using pirated software
Hu to Ballmer: Ha ha!

Could it be MS is estimating the Windows install base is much larger than it really is?

eddanger··on Google's dropping H.264 in Chrome is not a step backward for openness.
Why not drop Flash too?
eddanger··on Google's dropping H.264 in Chrome is not a step backward for openness.
As a rant this was mediocre, as a rebuttal this was lame.
eddanger··on Rebasing Merge Commits in Git (a cautionary tale for software teams)
When working with teams what is the problem with just doing "git pull" and "git push". It seems this is more truthful, and merge commits are evidence of what is going on with the repo. Rewriting history might simply appear nicer in the log, but what is the point really?
eddanger··on FreeBSD/EC2 lives
Indeed. Thanks for all your hard work, an impressive feat. You guys are unsung heroes in a world where we expect things to "just work".
eddanger··on FreeBSD/EC2 lives
I've been waiting for this for years! Amazon EC2 might have just jumped from a being novelty to something useful! (for me at least)
eddanger··on Apple’s iOS 4.2 Available Today for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch
Timed perfectly with my Birthday, Apple you never cease to amaze me!
eddanger··on Playboy Interview with Steven Jobs Circa 1985
What a great article. There is a lot of insight into what makes him tick. Reading this article 25 years into the future makes me think his "reality distortion field" is no distortion at all, just the reality!
eddanger··on Goodbye, Chrome (How Chrome got me banned from hacker news)
Just curious, how many tabs did you have open? Also a Flash blocking extension seems like it would come in handy in your multi-tab situation.
eddanger··on The future of notebooks: Ars reviews the 11" MacBook Air
As awesome as these are, I'm waiting for the 2nd generation. I simply like to play it safe and have them work out the kinks before making the plunge... most times.
eddanger··on Marijuana Legalization Fails in California
Don't underestimate the power and reach of "BC Bud"!
eddanger··on Marijuana Legalization Fails in California
In all seriousness, this is probably true. Marijuana is BC's 2nd largest industry behind construction and ahead of forestry. I believe it contributes over $7 billion/year to our GDP. I'm sure there are articles somewhere to back this up. :) Had Prop 19 passed it would have been bad news for BC's economy.
eddanger··on Google-funded startup builds search engine + API for predicting the future
This is to figure out what Apple plans to do before they do it, right?
