I agree with you completely that they're underappreciated and minimized - I've seen corporations cut their testing staff in favor of automated tests, only to find that overall number of bugs between releases rises. (note: this is not a knock on automated tests)
I've also noticed an elitist mentality, usually among junior developers (but sometimes in senior devs or management as well), that a developer can do any job or role better than anyone else with a bit of training and coding. IMO, both of these are very immature views, and extremely dismissive of the value that domain expertise and a critical, analytical set of eyes can bring.
From the Dev end of the spectrum to the QA end: thanks for everything you folks do. Shitty software destroys people's confidence in our work and solutions, and rework is expensive and bug-prone: you save us from a lot of that.
I personally suspect at this stage, his death would turn him into a martyr and the last thing the individuals operating these illegal surveillance programs want is more attention back on what they are doing.
My problem is so much of what goes on in these public message boards is not fact-based. Alt right groups pander to people's irritations and insecurities in a million small ways. They blatantly lie about individuals or scenarios. They set up straw men, then demonize and demolish them with words like 'cuck' and 'illegal' to inflame their readers, even when the people they're discussing are not those things at all. And when they're confronted with a dissenting viewpoint, they ignore it and move to the next. It is literally impossible for rational individuals to have discussions with them.
I think part of the problem is people don't tend to internalize lessons taught by others without respect for that person, and on the internet, everyone is a stranger. I don't want this kind of speech banned because it's offensive - I want it banned because its nonsensical, it enrages people only looking for a reason to be angry, it gives a platform to people that can't even defend their views without resorting to constant insults, it's a waste of time. That's probably my lack of caffeine talking, though.
Good on you for being patient and not letting them drag you into a place that would have humiliated them, though.
'Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said he supports the commissioner’s decision to suspend Bigda because of the likelihood firing him would not survive a civil service appeal and the city would be ordered to rehire the cop with back pay.
" I am not happy about it. This is what was recommended," Sarno said. " It is a most severe suspension of 60 working days without pay and retraining."
Barbieri told The Republican newspaper that Bigda will be reassigned to uniform duty on a day shift when his suspension ends.'
The people in charge here do not sound happy, so I suspect his career prospects will be fairly limited going forward, but who knows for sure.
That said, I agree the focus should be on what can be changed. The primary difficulty appears to be the Civil Service Commissions - why are these organizations defending civil servants who are clearly in the wrong?
Places like Yahoo have no such excuse.
It's a mess.
That said, for those with children, I can understand the purchase. Overall it's very circumstantial.
It's very clear who lawmakers are looking out for.
Details of some of those arrangements were disclosed Monday: Acting CEO Scott Sanborn received a grant of restricted stock valued at $5 million and his salary was increased to $500,000. Chief Financial Officer Carrie Dolan received $3.5 million of restricted stock units and her salary was increased to $400,000. Both executives also received $500,000 cash awards that will pay out in a year."
Out of curiosity, how common is this? To me this sounds like grabbing everything you can and heading for the exits before the building burns down, but I'm not familiar with the pay range for CEOs/CFOs in their location. You don't hear anything about others in the company receiving similar packages.
'Well, you're correct, normally we pay 18$ an hour, but the economy...'
