ec109685··on Generative AI Image Editing Showdown
It is terrible in all those services.
ec109685··on Generative AI Image Editing Showdown
Google photos should just include the feature. It’s kinda buried in Gemini.

Google is so weirdly non-integrated.

ec109685··on ChatGPT's Atlas: The Browser That's Anti-Web
OpenAI should be 100% required to rev share with content creators (just like radio stations pay via compulsory licenses for the music they play), but this is a weird complaint:

> “sometimes this tool completely fabricates content, gives me a box that looks like a search box, and shows me the fabricated content in a display that looks like a web page when I type in the fake search box”

If a human wrote that same article about Taylor Swift, would you say it completely fabricates content? Most “articles” on the web are just rewrites of someone else’s articles anyway and nobody goes after them as bad actors (they should).

ec109685··on Severe performance penalty found in VSCode rendering loop
Even worse (issue part).

I hate ai sometimes — an AI generated pull request (really some rando found a way of shaving 12% off the run loop?) responded to by an ai comment bot:

ec109685··on Internet's biggest annoyance: Cookie laws should target browsers, not websites
Yes, same with access restrictions. Parents should be able to limit types of content accessed at the device level and websites and app makers are just provided that.

Remove any notion of age blocks that kids just lie about, and let parents determine what is suitable for their kids.

ec109685··on A liver transplant from start to finish
This is a good point. The author discusses how in Iran, you can sell a kidney, Netherlands provides financial resources to live donors, and how Israel incentivizes donations by increasing the priory of family members of organ donors.
ec109685··on Synology reverses policy banning third-party HDDs
Horowitz talks about this in-depth in “What you do is Who You Are.” There are waypoints in a company’s life that can change their trajectory and when you have the weight of employees, their family and company’s existence on your shoulders, it’s easy to compromise on a value like customer centricity. Your culture needs to be strong enough so that doesn’t happen.

ec109685··on NFS at 40 – Remembering the Sun Microsystems Network File System
It wasn’t until relatively recently approaches like await because commonplace. Imagine all the software that wouldn’t have been written if they were forced to use async primitives before languages were ready for them.

Synchronous IO is nice and simple.

ec109685··on Managing context on the Claude Developer Platform
How do you know it’s not integrated into Claude code yet?
ec109685··on Man still alive six months after pig kidney transplant
It was unlikely outcome since nobody had lived there long on a pig organ. It is a good milestone since people who live that long, tend to have a good long-term prognosis.

Sometimes you just have a command write output.
ec109685··on Ultrasonic Chef's Knife
Eventually they will be exposed to sharp knife’s, so probably good to ease their way into it.
ec109685··on Ultrasonic Chef's Knife
Their partner does all the cooking.
ec109685··on If all the world were a monorepo
They don’t have to be massive changes. You can release the feature with with backwards compatibility and then gradually update dependencies and remove the old interface.
ec109685··on The AI-Scraping Free-for-All Is Coming to an End
You did via ads, and some of that value should go to the commenters.
ec109685··on The AI-Scraping Free-for-All Is Coming to an End
True. I think it has ended up a net good. People make a living on music, and licensed music is everywhere.
ec109685··on The AI-Scraping Free-for-All Is Coming to an End
It’s surprising Reddit doesn’t get pushback for reselling their user’s content.

The right thing would be for the end users to receive the compensation Reddit is getting from AI companies.

ec109685··on The AI-Scraping Free-for-All Is Coming to an End
Also interesting how sites like this are mainstream whereas a link to a site hosting an mp3 of pirated music wouldn’t be tolerated in discussion forums like this.

I think a big difference is that there’s no micro transactions or compulsory licensing for content, so it always feels patently unfair to buy a subscription to read one article.

The way comet browses the web is weird enough that it’s easily detectable.
ec109685··on California lawmakers pass SB 79, housing bill that brings dense housing
Or fix transportation and you don’t have an awful commute! Everybody wins.
ec109685··on California lawmakers pass SB 79, housing bill that brings dense housing
The commutes end up being awful.
ec109685··on California lawmakers pass SB 79, housing bill that brings dense housing
In addition to condos next to transit, California should be fixing roads, so people can move further from their job.

I know it’s unpopular nimby opinion but hoping people in these homes won’t be driving cars is misguided. Give them parking, fix roads for further commute and let people live where they want.

Save money by reducing regulations on elevator size, allow for single egress buildings and ensure we aren’t kowtowing to labor too much.

Future Waymo like technology makes driving your own car even less stressful and furthers the gap between public transit and cars.

“ California Senate Bill (SB) 79 reduces or eliminates parking minimums for new residential developments located near Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) stops”

ec109685··on Many hard LeetCode problems are easy constraint problems
We had a programming language class at college and wrote the same program in everything from Java to Lisp. The lisp was way nicer.
ec109685··on Many hard LeetCode problems are easy constraint problems
Depends on your experience and what you’re interviewing for. At a high enough level, the questions are pulled from the easier side, and the interviewer doesn’t want you to fail.
ec109685··on Nano Banana image examples
GitHub should be so ashamed that the back button no longer works and jumps to top of page.

They should have learned what do in SPA 101

ec109685··on Claude’s memory architecture is the opposite of ChatGPT’s
I’m the opposite. ChatGPT’s ability to automatically pull from its memory is way better than remembering to to ask.
ec109685··on I bought the cheapest EV, a used Nissan Leaf
They should fill the tank up with gasoline before putting it on the lot.
ec109685··on I bought the cheapest EV, a used Nissan Leaf
EVs lose energy just sitting there, so if you are going to sell EVs, it’s a cost of doing business

Never heard of a Tesla going home with 12% battery.
