easymodex··on The Man Behind “Fortnite”
This is actually super annoying to me, I love single player games, story driven fps or rpg or whatever, but everyone just keeps on churning out multiplayer or (even worse) co-op games. I don't have any gamer friends and I don't wanna play co-op with some random person but I do wanna have fun and experience some cool content.
easymodex··on Building hybrid blockchain/cloud applications
Did you just quote yourself? Is this a thinly veiled attempt at promoting your own blogposts?

Either way I don't know why your opinion on cryptocurrencies is so harshly negative. Of course it is currently hyped up and of course it doesn't solve all problems as a magic cure-all. BUT there are several real world use cases and dismissing them all just because some people are trying to get rich in the ecosystem isn't warranted.

easymodex··on The Day the Music Burned
I'd actually say the biggest disaster in history of music is what.cd being shut down. They had the largest collection of hard to find music, meticulously curated and in lossless formats. I doubt there will ever be such a complete collection and it was devastating to see it get killed like that.
easymodex··on A systematic study of the advice people would give to their younger selves
This is a funny one. Just imagine if you do go back in time, tell your younger self to "not marry her" and you actually don't marry her, then you may end up in a different position like being alone or wasting your life chasing other feel good things. Then that new you may grow up with even more regrets and dream of being able to go back in time to tell themselves to DO marry her.
easymodex··on Valve has mutated from a game developer into a financial middleman
That's just not true. I really hate the newer FPS style, with the clunky hitboxes and weird movement. I miss the accuracy and smoothness of the HL series, to me HL2 shines because of the gaming experience.

And also they ended it on a cliffhanger in episode 2 instead of concluding the arc at least.

And lastly after Portal came out I was so happy because it all made sense, I was sure Portal will somehow cross paths with HL so in HL3 you'd have a portal gun in your arsenal. So much potential wasted.

easymodex··on SEC Charges Kik With Conducting $100M Unregistered ICO
The truth is there are A LOT of ICOs which are actually developing or have developed some good solutions to certain problems. Yes there are a lot more scams than good projects, but just dismissing the whole field because of those is plain dumb.
easymodex··on SEC Charges Kik With Conducting $100M Unregistered ICO
Would you prefer it if everyone replied with the exact same post?
easymodex··on Google Just Gave 2B Chrome Users a Reason to Switch to Firefox
Firefox has always been my weapon of choice, I used both chrome and firefox with a lot of tabs loaded so I can be logged into different accounts on the same Saas. I'm actually switching chrome out with Brave browser, so far it has been a pleasant experience.
easymodex··on I Grew Up Gifted, but My Life Didn’t Turn Out the Way I Expected
This is very familiar to me. In college I often procrastinated until 3 days before an exam and only then opened the books. I didn't have the best grades because I made a conscious effort to get through with as little work as possible. I felt good about it as other classmates were studying for weeks before. Unfortunately I spent a lot of that free time playing video games. It was fun but i could've achieved way more.

But in the end you have to ask yourself what actually matters to you in life. The end goal is to be happy. I knew I wanted to have kids and enjoy life with friends and have fun. I could have been one of the best in some field, but for what purpose? Scientific achievements are hard, im not ready to commit my life to working at some problem which I may or may not solve. It's not about what you achieve, it's about what you choose not to. Jack of all trades is a sensible choice even though it's sometimes frustrating.

easymodex··on MDMA as a Probe and Treatment for Social Behaviors (2016)
From what I've researched it's minimum 2-4 weeks between doses (I go for 4 to be on the safe side). Vitamin C or fruits rich with it should be taken before and during consumption for protection from oxidative stress. And of course moderation, mdma has a sweet spot in dosage so taking more won't really increase the positive effects. For the "hangover" in the day/s after 5-htp does wonders. That's my anecdotal safe mdma recipe.
easymodex··on A Psychedelic Renaissance
>I did not try strong psychedelics but the problem with them as with any kind of drug is the effect wears off inevitably. If you feel great for some time, going back becomes even more terrible than staying there, because now you know there are better states.

This is hard to claim if you've never tried it. Personally when I do a shroom trip I don't even feel like doing it again until months later. I've done it like 8 times in my whole life, usually for fun with friends but it always ends up enlightening and spiritual. The effects are permanent in a very good way. It's a trip, same as you travel to a different exotic country and explore a different world, the memories, the feelings you experienced and the knowledge you gained will stay with you.

easymodex··on I got control of my spending with some no-code services and 100 lines of Python
Isn't all the infrastructure, people employed, offices and everything needed to support something also a waste of energy if it can be replaced by some lines of code? Also with your energy wasting straw man remark i assume you are talking specifically about bitcoin which is just one of many cryptocurrencies and a lot of them aren't based on proof of work.
easymodex··on I got control of my spending with some no-code services and 100 lines of Python
I have been in a similar situation and to me it's one of the main reasons why we need cryptocurrencies.
easymodex··on A systematic study of microdosing psychedelics
I am in a slump, can't get much work done and I lack focus. I can't stop wasting time and browsing and reading useless stuff I forget in the next 10 minutes. For the sake of science I will try microdosing lsd today (I have 1 tab handy from a rave a few months ago). I have never tried it, though I have tried shrooms several times. I'll report back my observations in a few days.
easymodex··on Tether Says Stablecoin Is Only Backed 74% by Cash, Securities
Im not describing a different process, they had their money in a savings account on a bank that went under, they have been liquidating it's assets since the 2008 crisis to repay people and it's still not done.
easymodex··on Tether Says Stablecoin Is Only Backed 74% by Cash, Securities
IMO, if USDT actually turns out to be a scam, prices will go up for bitcoin. People will rush to buy back in since money sitting in USDT is money that is waiting for a good entry. If USDT becomes worthless everyone will buy back into actual cryptocurrencies.
easymodex··on Tether Says Stablecoin Is Only Backed 74% by Cash, Securities
I don't know the right number but I do know of at least 2 acquaintances who lost all their families life savings. The legal process to get the money back is actually still ongoing but during that time we changed our national currency to euros and those life savings are worth about 10% of what they were back then.

Thing is, with crypto you invest (usually) what you can afford to lose and you accept the risk. With banks most people think it's safe and risk-free so then the impact of losing it all is so much harder, it ruins lives.

easymodex··on Why Do People with Depression Like Listening to Sad Music?
Upvoted for good music taste!
easymodex··on Why We Stink at Tackling Climate Change
Well i sure as hell hope so. I would love the money being taken from us actually fund something i care about and that will benefit everyone, instead of wasting it on stupid crap.
easymodex··on Python overtakes JavaScript as most questioned language on StackOverflow
That's because programming in python is fun so we aren't as stressed! I'm only kidding but there might be some truth in this worth exploring.
easymodex··on Australia Passes Law to Punish Social Media Companies for Violent Posts
>see how he had the names of similar assaulters on the weapon

Those names were actually the names of terrorist victims in recent attacks. I thought that was the case but I'm not 100% sure though, can't really check or find any source.

easymodex··on Listening to Ketamine
Interesting, for swim mdma is the best party drug hands down. For tripping with friends swim usually chooses shrooms. Hasn't tried K, but will give it a shot when opportunity comes.
easymodex··on Flaws in Bitcoin make a lasting revival unlikely
You can't steal bitcoin, you can just double spend and the market would detect that immidiately and the price would plummet, leaving you with billion dollar worth of worthless ASIC infrastructure. So yeah the recourse is it would directly cost you billions and you will gain nothing.
easymodex··on Flaws in Bitcoin make a lasting revival unlikely
Just want to point out a lot of people's money DID disappear over night during the 2008 crisis. Some banks actually went under during that time, along with anyone's money sitting in it. People lost all savings.
easymodex··on Flaws in Bitcoin make a lasting revival unlikely
>What is worrisome about bitcoin isn't that it's used for fraud at all, it's that fraudulent activity and weird con-like schemes constitute a significant, if not majority of activity.

Sorry but it's not 2015 anymore. I mean yes it does happen but not nearly as much as people think, probably not even much more than with regular currencies. It's true though that people fall for crypto cons more easily since a lot jumped in hoping for miracle money without even understand what they're doing. Thankfully this isn't the case anymore since hopefully enough people have learned about it and will pass that knowledge to others.

easymodex··on Top Scores: Video Game Music
+1 for deus ex, also a shoutout to System Shock soundtrack. And let's not forget the godlike Morrowind theme, Halo 1 intro and so many others i cant remember right now.
easymodex··on Thinkpad X210
My current weapon of choice is a Lenovo y50-70. Adding RAM is super easy, but I had to replace the keyboard at one point which was a nightmare since it was all glued and had small pins to hold it together, not to mention for some reason you have to disassemble absolutely everything before you actually get to it. In the end I basically just tore the thing out semi-carefully and the new one is just "pinned-in" (the glue isn't even needed). Another adventure was the screen frame which was breaking more and more each time I opened it. For that I drilled holes in a few places and bolted it together with some really small nuts so it still closes fine. It was annoying but a fun experience, got me over my hardware tweaking anxiety for good. I doubt it gets crazier than drilling holes in your laptop.

So yes, laptops should absolutely be made easier to modify, the components get old really fast and I don't wanna buy the whole thing each time I want an extra bit of RAM or some small part gets broken. It's one of the things that make me steer way clear of Apple stuff.

easymodex··on How Blockchain Works
"and has a history of working just fine for lower cost." Citation needed.

Also we are just talking opinions here, a lot of things seem impossible until they are actually here and in our everyday lives.

easymodex··on How Blockchain Works
How is this not a problem if the court system is filled to the brim with situation that could have been solved with smart contracts in place.

As for the yacht it's easy, the ownership is transfered from your address to the buyers address on the government's blockchain. :)

easymodex··on How Blockchain Works
Say you initiate a contract to sell a yacht for 1 million $. You and your buyer go to a notary where all 3 of you sign the contract and all the proper procedures. You give the buyer the yacht and he says he will transfer you the money tomorrow. Meanwhile the buyer and the notary strike a shady deal to screw you over and make new contracts that say you sold it for 1k$. It's 2 against 1 and you will lose a costly court battle and your yacht and so on.

Solution: blockchain smart contracts where code is law, more secure, trustworthy and transparent than any individual, bank, government or company.
