iOS engineers, feel free to reach out to me directly at danny dot zlobinsky at nytimes dot com

dzlobin··on Email encryption on Android and iOS becomes easy with the open source app Tutanota
I might be missing something but the source of the actual iOS app doesn't appear to be on their Github.
dzlobin··on Uber Is Testing a Massive Merchant Delivery Program
They are puppies from local shelters that they encourage people to adopt.
dzlobin··on The Steady Rise of Bike Ridership in New York
This is great to see, however it is frustrating to not see a graph relative to population growth in NYC.
dzlobin··on Ask HN: What do you want from an online travel guide?
Have you watched The Layover on the Travel Channel? Its format is similar to what you describe.
dzlobin··on Yahoo in Talks to Buy Foursquare
Foursquare's newest location-based advertising platform seems a likely reason according to your themes.

dzlobin··on Show HN: 2048 in Swift
I asked a Swift engineer named Greg about this yesterday at a Swift lab at WWDC -- he said that it is forthcoming, but gave no estimates or timelines. Exception handling, however, doesn't seem to be on the roadmap.
dzlobin··on Healthcare Startup Oscar Raises $80 Million
I was really excited about this when I was shopping for insurance in April -- unfortunately they offer the same quality plans as the NY exchange. Not a single doctor from the 5-6 I've used in the past few years accepts any of their plans (or any of the exchange plans, for that matter).
dzlobin··on Amazon, in Threat to UPS, Tries Its Own Deliveries
I'm not disagreeing, but what would UPS/USPS/unions fight them on? Is starting a delivery service regulated in some way?
dzlobin··on Update on Coinbase Data Security
I don't know about the other large US banks, but Chase definitely does and has been for years.
dzlobin··on Facebook acquires Oculus VR
My god, the tinfoil on HN has become unbearable. Are you even listening to yourself?
dzlobin··on Moto 360
He means that it may be a real device prototype, but the video is added in post.
dzlobin··on Fast-food worker replacement machine
Presumably a self-clean in between grinder changes is not entirely difficult though.
dzlobin··on Explain Shell
Holy moly, this might be one of the best things I've seen on HN in a long time.

dzlobin··on Twitter Cofounder Evan Williams Reported To Have Sold Twitter Stake Early
2 hours later they printed another story correcting this nonsense, instead of pulling this article as a whole.

dzlobin··on GitHub was down
That's what I originally assumed, but is this actually ever successful with companies like that?
dzlobin··on GitHub was down
Since this has been more frequent as of late, can anyone shine some light on who might DDOS someone like github? Is there anything to gain or is this just sadism?
dzlobin··on Video on Instagram
You've posted several times in this thread so far complaining about the ads, do you have a source? There aren't any video ads right now nor did they specify _anything_ about how they might work. The only thing they _did_ say, was that user content won't be used in ads.
dzlobin··on Apple Introduces iOS 7
It only allows you to disable or enable wifi/bluetooth/airplane. This is pretty much 100% lifted from this old jailbroken iOS app: http://cydia.saurik.com/package/sbsettings
dzlobin··on Uber Stockholm throw a PR-tantrum when refused unfair advantages
>all groceries are mandated to list price per weight/volume/appropriate other unit so you can find out, say, which bag of rice is cheapest per kg, for instance - the same goes for taxi services and price per km

That's actually really interesting and I had no idea that was the case. In a supermarket, would such a list be in the isle next to the food? Or would it just be available from management or something like that?

dzlobin··on Tickets For Apple’s WWDC 2013 Sell Out In Under 2 Minutes
Developer of the #2 music app here, didn't get shit ahead of time (or just now).
dzlobin··on Tickets For Apple’s WWDC 2013 Sell Out In Under 2 Minutes
Anyone else get this screen in Chrome? http://cl.ly/image/2E2a1y0u1g0N

By the time I pivoted to Safari one minute later it was sold out.

dzlobin··on Tickets For Apple’s WWDC 2013 Sell Out In Under 2 Minutes
One minute. I was on the checkout screen at 1:01 and it was sold out.
dzlobin··on WWDC 2013 – June 10-14
Oh for sure, I simply meant you get to focus your efforts on learning/networking/etc full-time for a week which is rare for most of us working folks.
dzlobin··on Wish I was here by Zach Braff
Well, presumably people who dish out $10k+ for a kickstarter campaign can provide better travel arrangements than the producers can without using half of their donation.
dzlobin··on WWDC 2013 – June 10-14
While the videos are available online, what are the odds you will actually watch all of them? Especially within one week?

I'd venture a guess that most of the benefit is derived from the fact that you get to focus for the entire week on taking all of this in, rather than fitting in the videos around your work/family life/etc. That, and the labs and other in-person events that won't be recorded.

dzlobin··on Series A Crunch Worsens
This really doesn't say much about a Series-A crunch.

It doesn't take into account the percentage of those companies who raised a seed round that were _seeking_ a Series-A round. This looks to me as if the article is making the assumption that 100% of companies who raised a seed round were seeking another around, and thus this year a smaller percentage of seed companies actually raised a round.

It also fails to mention whether or not the size of the average seed round grew. If you use HN and TechCrunch as anecdotal evidence, the trend seems to be much larger seed rounds the last two years. This alone could explain the fact that more companies are not actively seeking a Series-A within the first year.

dzlobin··on LayerVault Sends DMCA Takedown Letter re Flat-UI
I'd be much happier if we as a community learned to read, research and formulate opinions before picking up pitchforks.
dzlobin··on LayerVault Sends DMCA Takedown Letter re Flat-UI
How about you look into the issue rather than making bold comments with no basis.
