dysoco··on A few random notes from Claude coding quite a bit last few weeks
Being optimistic (or pessimistic heh), if things keep the trend then the models will evolve as well and will probably be quite better in one year than they are now.
dysoco··on A few random notes from Claude coding quite a bit last few weeks
It might be biased to Reddit/Twitter users but from what I've seen game developers seem to be much more averse towards using AI (even for coding) than other fields.

Which is curious since prototyping helps a lot in gamedev.

dysoco··on Ask HN: How to avoid skill atrophy in LLM-assisted programming era?
> What skills are atrophying that would be useful in the future?

Well for once, tech companies are still at large hiring via leetcode/livecoding interviews. I feel much less prepared now that I was a year ago.

dysoco··on Ask HN: Do you have any evidence that agentic coding works?
> I worry about new languages though. I guess maybe model training with synthetic data will become a requirement?

I read a (rather pessimistic) comment here yesterday claiming that the current generation of languages is most likely going to be the last, since the already existing corpus of code for training is going to trump any other possible feature the new language might introduce, and most of the code will be LLM generated anyways.

dysoco··on Nanolang: A tiny experimental language designed to be targeted by coding LLMs
I understand the effort and it seems like a nice little language but wouldn't it make more sense to target already existing C--, QBE, LLVMIR or similar? There must be "simpler C" languages already which sounds more useful given that LLMs must've been trained on them.

> Next.js with server rendered React is not a stack that an experienced web developer would have recommended for a “clean” solution to a collection of financial calculators

Do you speak with web developers on a daily basis? It seems to be the default stack for everyone to build from from a Saas to a TODO app for the last 5 years or so.

dysoco··on Project Cybersyn
I have personally not listened to it but there's a recent podcast that covers this story and I've heard it's really good, it's called "The Santiago Boys" it's referenced in the article.

> it's probably not a great time to be a very middling pure CRUD web app developer. However, has it ever been, outside of SV and certain very select, fortunate corners of the economy?

Like 80% of jobs outside the USA are either local or outsourced CRUD web applications. Many people live quite well thanks to exchange rates. I wonder what's gonna happen if/when those jobs disappear.

dysoco··on Ask HN: What did you find out or explore today?
> I’m reading Domain Driven Development and learning why so many of my projects have been tough to maintain.

Because they didn't take advice from that book or because they DID take advice from that book?

dysoco··on The next two years of software engineering
> If you didn't like working with computers, then you (and another gazillion people who choose it for the $$$) probably made the wrong choice.

The problem is the field is changing, fast. I love writing code... I'm not so sure I love prompting Claude, coordinating agents and reviewing +30k vibe-coded PRs.

dysoco··on The Jeff Dean Facts
Yeah I thought exactly the same, but I guess Jon Skeet is from a different era altogether, we're moving into a world where many programmers perhaps have never even entered StackOverflow. I feel old.
dysoco··on Ask HN: What did you read in 2025?
I attempted to read this and it was very interesting and greatly written but I had to drop it. This was worse than a horror book, nothing scarier to me than to think about terminal illnesses.
dysoco··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025)
Awesome! Good articles. I wonder why you didn't use first a more traditional decompiler such as Ghidra or HexRays to generate "almost-C" and then use Agents to give them meaningful name and semantics?
dysoco··on The Junior Hiring Crisis
A doctor will get hired immediately after college (with very poor pay though) and become an intern/resident, their diploma is enough to show they know their stuff and are qualified for at least an entry position.

A recently graduated Software Engineer or Computer Scientist won't, and they will get interviewed and have to go through hoops as if their diploma wasn't worth a dime.

dysoco··on Ask HN: What is the best Christmas movie?
Love Actually

Die Hard

Gremlins

Jingle All The Way

Eyes Wide Shut

dysoco··on PS5 now costs less than 64GB of DDR5 memory. RAM jumps to $600 due to shortage
This. Users and developers will just get accustomed to 2s delays everywhere. The era of native software is long gone.
dysoco··on Ask HN: Effective way to deal with mosquitoes?
Are those pluggeable things safe with cats around?
dysoco··on iPhone Pocket
Did a pickpocket design this?
dysoco··on Ask HN: Does anyone else with astigmatism not like dark-mode?
I have astigmatism and have not found any issues with glares in white-on-black, I think you should use themes with dark/light grey/blue/etc. anyways and not directly white and black.

However I do find light themes more pleasant, obviously at night I tend to switch to a dark theme but during the day I prefer to keep them light, I find them more pleasant and aesthetic.

dysoco··on Argentine peso weakens to fresh low despite US interventions
Fair enough, forget I said neoliberalism but the rest of the keywords apply. Evidently they don't care that one is neoliberal and the other is protectionist, I guess they care more about anti-wokeism at the end of the day.
dysoco··on Argentine peso weakens to fresh low despite US interventions
What follows is just my theory, but I think it's merely a matter of politics and culture.

Trump doesn't want Milei's government to fail, he needs successful examples of neoliberal, anti-woke, populist, anti-inmigration governments and Milei is probably his best bet. He's not helping Argentina, he's helping a political ally's party.

Betting on the Peso doesn't make sense. It's a lot of money but it's <1% USA's budget. Trump was probably thinking the American media would not pay too much attention to it but apparently it slightly backfired and they did.

dysoco··on Claude Code on the web
So from what I can understand this is only meant to be used with Claude-hosted sandbox environments?

Wouldn't work for my case since I need a lot of HDD space, GPUs etc. to run the thing I'm working on, but it would be great if I could run a Claude Code server in my server, expose the port and then connect via web or iOS interface.

Sure I can use tmux/ssh but it's very impractical specially in mobile.

dysoco··on Talent
> Playing video games apparently prints money these days. People stream it to audiences and get paid ad money

Paying video games alone doesn't print money [0], it's being a great entertainer that does, and it's not easy and usually requires quite a bit of talent and the right personality.

And as others have said, just go into Twitch pick a category and check how many channels are streaming that have 0 viewers... it's staggering, I would argue that perhaps only 2% or so of Twitch channels have more than 1 viewer.

Making bank streaming requires not only grueling work of putting video after video, empty streams, etc. for years but also probably being quite lucky, we only see a tiny fraction of people making content out there.

I agree though that this didn't exist 15 years ago, so it's definitively a possibility when before it wasn't!

[0]: Okay you can be a pro-gamer but I think that's even more niche and harder than making content.

dysoco··on Getting syntax highlighting wrong
I think it's fine and it's certainly very recognizable
dysoco··on Apple M5 chip
Oh but they absolutely did beat MacOS. The amount of people who give a damn about UI polish, response times, etc. is insignificant to them.

They got away with pushing ads, online and enterprise services, Copilot, etc. to every desktop user.

dysoco··on Show HN: Halloy – Modern IRC client
I haven't used IRC in years, but my teenage of ~12 years ago would've been stoked by this, it's the nicest client I've seen as of yet. Cheers!
dysoco··on Ask HN: Abandoned/dead projects you think died before their time and why?
Yes, this was the ideal system for a social network imho, but it should've been integrated into an already existing network, G+ was in an odd spot between Twitter and Facebook.

Years later they briefly added Circles to Twitter and I thought that was great, not as useful as G+ Circles (since you could only have a single "private" circle to share to) but I very much used it and my mutuals as well... just to have Musk remove the only useful feature they had in years.

dysoco··on AMD and Sony's PS6 chipset aims to rethink the current graphics pipeline
But there are plenty of games for PS5, what does it matter to you if they're exclusive or not?

There are no exclusive games for AMD and Nvidia and yet no one complains about that, they just choose whichever brand they prefer to game on and that's it.

dysoco··on Vercel CEO meets with Netanyahu to discuss AI education
As an Argentinian, Israel/Netanyahu are generally well received (because of many people with Jewish heritage) by people in the center/right, even people in the left spectrum will be reticent about criticizing if they come from a Jewish family. The echo chamber is very real if you only watch right-leaning TV channels for example (most of them).

Pure speculation from now on, but afaik Guillermo lives in the USA, and as the CEO of an international company I'm also surprised he's so tone deaf but it's not the only example (i.e. check Galperin's Twitter feed). I don't think it's about sending a message I think Guillermo probably follows Argentinian media/politics and fell for the echo chamber, he also wanted to look cool/important for Milei.

dysoco··on Vercel CEO meets with Netanyahu to discuss AI education
> Ask yourself why An Argentinian have a German last name.

Same reason why many Americans have German last names? In Argentina probably 95% of people have either Italian or Spanish last names. I know more people with Jewish last names than German.
