durbin··on Paul Graham on trends for the future
I was hanging on every word and then he said, "I believe Wave is going to be very important"
durbin··on Ask HN: Holy Crap I need an Idea
Read The Map of Innovation by Kevin O'Connor, founder of DoubleClick. http://www.amazon.com/Map-Innovation-Creating-Something-Noth...
durbin··on Ask HN: Java/Groovy/Scala/Clojure/Ruby for your startup?
It is very one sided as almost everything I've seen about Ruby is Rails focused, especially outside of japan. Please fill me in where you think the Ruby community has more to offer in a scientific environment.
durbin··on Ask HN: Java/Groovy/Scala/Clojure/Ruby for your startup?
python. python beats ruby in community imo. if you're just doing a webapp then rails wins, but with scipy conferences and researchers from astronomy to biology putting out python packages, if you're doing something outside the normal webapp you'll probably find a more useful community with python.
durbin··on Why Startup Founders Should Stop Reading Business Books
Just because there are a lot of over-simplified, tabloid-headline creating blogs that are trying to get to the front page of Reddit or Hacker News, it doesn't mean I am going to tell people to stop reading all blogs. In the same vein, there are a ton of amazing business books that entrepreneurs should be reading in spite of the others. The Map of Inovation for example. The key to to pick the right ones and read faster.
durbin··on Save Google Wave
Its open source, save it for yourself.
durbin··on Writing Rails code makes me miss writing in Objective-C. Or C. Or Java. Or...
you should have taken the FriendFeed route and written your own blazing fast http server and framework. but no, you had to do it the lazy way. :)
durbin··on Rate my startup: ChompStack, a mobile website builder for restaurants
I love this idea
durbin··on Ask HN: Which Android Phone to Buy?
Italian prepaid users get 2.6 GB of data for € 10.00/month. Best rate in the US for prepaid data is AT&T’s $20 for 100 MB,36X more. http://twitter.com/martinvars/status/16928415972

Hooray Free Markets and invisible hands! Don't get me started on US Broadband.

durbin··on Programmer's Font [2004]
Show the font in a very small size.
durbin··on Beware of MBAs: The business school curriculum teaches how to suck at startups
I'm so sick of these Ivy League MBA's lumping all MBA programs together in their inability to teach entrepreneurship. At Babson we were learning about the Timmon's model and how to be 'lean' on day one. Long before anyone had heard the name Eric Reis. And in case you're unaware, Babson has been ranked the number 1 business school for Entrepreneurship by US News for the last 17 years, when they started ranking.
durbin··on When can startups be called successful, e.g. reddit, dropbox?
when they are cash flow positive and the point where they are actually profitable is in the foreseeable future and can be calculated.
durbin··on An Oral History of Unix
A Transcribed History of Unix
durbin··on My Startup: A Different Take on UML - What do you think?
python
durbin··on My Startup: A Different Take on UML - What do you think?
Can this be used with other languages or only Java?
durbin··on Beautiful Image Hover Effect Using Only Webkit CSS (No JS)
i think we have differing opinions on what is beautiful and sexy.
durbin··on Joining a Startup Out of College is Hard (A Solution)
The part of working at a startup that I enjoy most is not working with I-bank/management consulting type people. My favorite part: "a rotational program between Sequoia’s portfolio companies". Hilarious.
durbin··on [dead]
I think the HN wall of interesting and intelligent content might have cracked, a "Hilter's Reaction" video on the front page? horrible.
durbin··on Programming books I have read and somewhat liked
Good list, i'd be interested to know how much you've made off the links to amazon in a couple weeks.
durbin··on Well-capitalized Seattle start-up seeks Unix developers
Maybe this guy Larry should apply.

durbin··on Ask HN: I'm way too shy, please help
I would have considered myself shy in the past and one of the rationalizations that helped me get over being shy is that everyone projects how they would react and feel on other people.

Do you judge others work or blogs harshly? Are you judgmental of others opening themselves up and putting their work and thoughts out in public? I'd say the first step is making sure that you are not judgmental of others putting themselves out there and in turn you'll realize the best people (and the only ones you should care about imho) are the ones that aren't judgmental and embrace people sharing what they are thinking and realize its tough to have brilliant ideas all the time.

durbin··on PHP Creator Asks, Is Facebook's HipHop Just a 'Nifty Trick'?
gotta love the NYT completely taking things out of context like a tabloid.

"My "nifty trick" comment to RWW wasn't meant to be negative or belittling of HipHop PHP in any way. Check the comments http://bit.ly/cH1qyV @rasmus

durbin··on "Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model"
An Open Letter to Robert Hintze, founder of BeautifulPeople.com, and its Members from iChange.com http://www.ichange.com/blog/2010/01/04/an-open-letter-to-rob...
durbin··on Ask HN: Busy hacker would like to pay less busy hacker to build website
http://odesk.com
durbin··on You can go to the bathroom whenever you want at Microsoft
I'd be less embarrassed to say I worked at a gas station than that I was Principal software developer on Internet Explorer
durbin··on Ask HN: What web framework(s) do you guys use?
http://symfony-project.org/
durbin··on Facebook's valuation (in Whoppers)
This guys reasoning is faulty and he doesn't even know how facebook friendships work, so why would anyone take his funny valuation seriously? waste of time.
durbin··on LinksOnHN[n].setAttribute('target',"_blank");
i'd love it if hn added a simple checkbox like techmeme to open links in a new tab. The middle click is pretty sweet though.
