duozerk··on Fastest rate of natural carbon dioxide rise over the last 50k years
Ah yes, a "source" from Charles Koch's Cato Institute.

Do you really expect to be taken seriously with this "rebuttal" ?

duozerk··on Fast food is already automated
They're obviously talking about the app the QR code points to. The one you suggest should be a requirement for ordering.
duozerk··on ChatGPT went berserk
> because there are no reasons to use screenshots

Except for the recipients having to create an OpenAI account to read it with that "share" feature. Which they do not have to do if using a screenshot. Seems like an extremely good reason.

duozerk··on Timeline to remove DSA support in OpenSSH
This is already the case for very old target devices, that don't support the ssh v2 protocol at all; hence the existence of the ssh1 client (https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/openssh-client-ssh1).
duozerk··on Why I created Banner Blog
I suggest hugo: https://gohugo.io/

Generates a completely static website from MD (and other formats) files; also handles themes (including a lot of them rendering well on mobile), and different types of content - posts, articles, etc. - depending on the theme.

You can edit posts with any editor you care to for wysiwyg features.

It's open source and, being completely static, cheap as fuck to self host.

Thank you !
duozerk··on Unciv
This is great, thank you !

Along with shattered pixel dungeon, this is one of the only worthwile games on Android I've found. They don't call home, they don't push ads, they don't spy on you, they're just good games, well implemented and open source.
duozerk··on NASA clears the air: No evidence that UFOs are aliens
No there isn't (beyond occasional papers badly misinterpreted by mainstream press)

There's tons of literature on this topic to process/consider in science fiction.

duozerk··on VoCore – Coin-sized Linux Computer
Mostly I agree but mind you:

> Proper Linux is only worth the difference if you can actually fit the OS and your application in the available RAM (good luck)

This says it has 128MB RAM. This is more than sufficient to run the very latest Linux and several useful applications. You just can't install systemd.

duozerk··on E-ink is so Retropunk
Same, I just don't get it

My go-to e-reader for years has been an ad-supported kindle that I immediately jailbreak to install KOReader and remove the ads (as well as any communication with amazon). It's cheap, supports epub, and the hardware is surprisingly good and durable.

As a bonus you can basically install any GTK app you care to on there; I have a term emulator with SSH and a chess game with AI on mine, for example

duozerk··on E-ink is so Retropunk
OK but with libgen offering a much better, non DRM alternative that point is ultimately not an issue IMO
duozerk··on When did Postgres become cool?
This is very informative, thank you.
duozerk··on When did Postgres become cool?
I didn't either until it bit me in the ass a few months back - often it's shitty proprietary software being only compatible with "genuine" (oracle) MySQL.
duozerk··on Infrastructure audit completed by Radically Open Security
You'd need that feature if you desired to host an actual service (a webserver for example) behind the VPN
duozerk··on Recreate the cavity-preventing GMO bacteria BCS3-L1 from precursor
MIRI isn't even really AI; it's a pet project from that insane, sex-pest-filled movement in the US that calls itself "effective altruism" (that and their dozens of even-more-insane offshoots). IIRC originally funded by the pitiful creature that Yudkowsky had by then become.

MIRI hasn't produced or published anything of scientific value. In fact seeing the person this fundraiser is about putting it as a high point in their references is a major red flag.

duozerk··on Drastic increase in Tor clients from Germany
Looking into it you appear to be right, thanks; that single study is almost exclusively the single source of all similar articles, too. Admittedly I don't use twitter, so I don't have first hand experience in this.

It's still pretty obvious that there is a propaganda effort from NATO as well, and one that seems to work a lot more than Russia's on western audiences.

> There are literally viral tweets blaming Ukraine for creating COVID-19.

lmao that's so insane it almost sounds like a bit

duozerk··on Wine 8.0
Almost exclusively games, under Linux. This includes games that just came out - more and more they work out of the box thanks to dxvk and the wine-staging patches.
duozerk··on What is spacetime made of?
> Spacetime is the Ether, in my opinion. This was tested, but never proved/disproved

Am I missing something ? because you just linked an article that clearly disproves your first assertion.

... and followed it by what looks like a poorly written research article by a self described "independent physicist" (https://nitter.net/tavi_balaci) with only three published articles and all kinds of red flags.

duozerk··on Widespread exploitation of critical remote code execution in Apache Log4j
They should, but they often aren't. Also, even if they are, this can be exploited with a port number the attacker picks. So unless you specifically whitelisted what outbound hosts your machine can reach and only those (which is rarely done and not always possible), it isn't likely to help.
duozerk··on We can have democracy or we can have Facebook
You're right, should've mentioned it. And I for one never gave much credit to the face covering excuse - that ban was meant to attack Islam.
duozerk··on We can have democracy or we can have Facebook
> but in france display of religious symbols (such as wearing a cross) is banned in public places

That is not true; you're free to have religious symbols in public places. What you cannot do is wear them ostensibly if you're acting as an official for a public service. Teacher ? no cross/kippa/etc. while you're teaching. Cop ? same. Mayor in the process of marrying a couple ? same again.

Parent helping teachers during a school outing ? you're perfectly allowed to have such signs visible, you're not an official representative of the French republic. Same goes in public places in general.

duozerk··on Compound found in the hallucinogenic tea ayahuasca can grow new brain cells
My apology for the late response; my "source" is the vivid trip I experienced taking a 4g seeds syrian rue tea (and nothing else; the trip was also accompanied by strong nausea, though there are ways to mitigate that). That included vivid open-eyes visuals. Beyond that, I'm struggling to find reports on erowid that do not include other substances but I can tell you there are tens of similar reports on the DMT nexus.

Also, you talk about naturally occuring DMT, but be aware that there is absolutely no scientific proof that DMT is contained in any amount sufficient to provoke a trip in the human body, even with a MAOI; it's there, yes, but in minute amounts and almost certainly as a byproduct of the synthesis of something else. Maybe you're right on the other hormones, but if that's the case it's not due to the MAOI properties of harmals either, since we're not seeing people using pharmaceutical MAOIs tripping.

duozerk··on Simple Password Management with GPG
Good to know, thanks !
duozerk··on Simple Password Management with GPG
As for emacs users, the EasyPG package (https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/EasyPG) offers a similar feature - it uses GPG directly, though.
duozerk··on Compound found in the hallucinogenic tea ayahuasca can grow new brain cells
Not so mild. The harmal alkaloids in question can induce full on psychedelic trips.
duozerk··on Compound found in the hallucinogenic tea ayahuasca can grow new brain cells
> That is, the medicine did not contain chacruna (psychotria viririds) as it does today in order to bring about visions

Indeed, but harmal alkaloids - those contained in b. caapi - are not only selective, reversible MAOIs but also full on psychedelics by themselves, as anyone having taken a significant amount of them (usually either through b. caapi or a peganum harmala seeds tea) could tell you. You get "visions" with them too.

duozerk··on Why do printers still suck?
Even assuming you dedicate such time to it, very often the hardware itself is pretty poor and fails you. I recently had to basically take apart an (admittedly cheap) HP inkjet printer in order to reposition part of a hall-effect switch that helped it detect a paper jam - it was detecting a jam continuously because of it.

And because the same printer hadn't been used in 5 months, I also had to clean the clogged head with a syringe afterwards.

duozerk··on eBay removing Raspberry Pi listings as they “encourage infringement”
In France there's leboncoin.fr, also more active than eBay.
duozerk··on Neural correlates of the DMT experience assessed with multivariate EEG
Yes; that's almost universally reported by all regular cannabis users. Extremely vivid dreams (or nightmares, depending on the user).
