ducaale··on Show HN: HNTerm – Browse Hacker News in the Terminal
Wow, the vim keybindings are very intiutive. I just pressed O without thinking about it and it opened the highlighted link in a browser. although I miss using h and l for going right and left. also, I don't know about others but it took me some time to figure out the enter key to open comments page. maybe that should be mentioned in the help window.

Snapyy doesn't currently work in windows 10 WSL1 but hopefully will work in WSL2
ducaale··on HTTPie – A user-friendly CLI HTTP client
One time I tried to install HTTPie from ubuntu 16.04 apt repository I got an old version that was not compatible with httpie-jwt-auth so I had to install it using pip.

1. pip3 install httpie.

2. python3 -m pip install httpie.

3. sudo pip install httpie.

Finally, it was working. Last week I upgraded to ubuntu 18.04 and surprise, httpie is not working. I didn't bother installing again from pip. Luckily this time, apt repository had a recent version.

Scrolling back through my terminal history, I see that I went through the same struggle with s3cmd.

So yeah, installing anything that requires python is a bit painful. Fortunately, someone in the comments mentioned https://github.com/rs/curlie which is an HTTPie alternative in golang.

ducaale··on Developer Roadmaps
Well, you are not supposed to know all of them by heart. just start by what you need and know what other technologies that exist so you can learn them when the need arises. for me, I think I know or have a vague idea about most of the concepts mentioned in Frontend and Backend. But DevOps sections seems intimidating to me. People in other fields might feel the same way about Frontend or Backend Development. The thing is, just like any craft, it requires time and practice.

ducaale··on Would aliens understand lambda calculus? (2018)
So you are saying that there could be aliens that would percieve 1+1 as 3, how would that even make sense?

If our society is built by mathmatics that can be seen as wrong by aliens, how would they percieve our reality and how would they explain the complicated structures we have built using our mathmatics?

ducaale··on Would aliens understand lambda calculus? (2018)
What would happen if this question was reformalated as "If there was another civilization, would they have invented lambda calculus?"

As for the question of "is mathmatics discovered or invented", if two or more people can discover the same branch of mathmatics, wouldn't that mean that it is a universal truth that could even be discovered by aliens?

ducaale··on Japanese ninja history student gets top marks for writing essay in invisible ink
I have read when i was in fourth grade that onion juice could be used to make invisible ink that appears when the paper is heated.

There was also a scene[0] in National Treasure film (2004) where they use lemon and heat to reveal a hidden text
