I still think it can be valuable to be on the list. The US loves its secret and the not-so-secret societies and being in them can afford a rather nice fun life. I would generally recommend them if you can.
The age requirement is more than a youth fetish, it is a way of discerning privilege and privileged people are more likely to succeed and not make you look bad.
You probably shouldn't believe most of what you read in the news. For the people making investment decisions based on this list I'm sure the same people would have found some other way to waste their money.
A weird but predictable side effect of using affirmative action to promote women is that statistically attendees will see female presenters as worse. (Availably heuristic / selection criteria bias).
I would consider the bulk of H1B to be about suppression of worker rights (and salary)
I now remote consult from my home country. I still get employers who figure they should pay me less since I live in a cheap country but it's much easier to negotiate when they can't kick me out of the country.
And by Asian do you mean Pakistan as per British terminology?
If it drops 40% I might be able to afford to go back home.
When I was told that I wasn’t good enough by my new boss and should look for another job on my first day, I thought it was ridiculous, and that it would be possible to change her mind. She was not my hiring boss due to a reorganization that happened just before I started. I hung on for a year and the stress literally nearly killed me, I ended up quitting for health reasons. I got the lowest ranking you could get in what I believe to be the shortest amount of time in the company’s history.
The funny thing is is that I’m a freakish prodigy at my work and after a successful stint at a different company, I ended up back at the same company at much much higher position.
Hating companies like this is like hating a snake that bit you... it’s a snake. At least in the US the money is better.
If I could give advice to anyone who finds themselves in a similar position it would be that failure is not the end and not always your fault. And probably find a new job sooner rather than later.
Also the US does not have a great track record with inciting revolutions in Iran.
I’m not American so it’s not my problem, but it’s what I hear from other tax exiles.
My parents are American but given the choice for me to become American I declined due to the whole tax issue.
