dskhatri··on Ask YC: Souping up Ubuntu?
Nice tips! I just configured my UI to the following: http://picasaweb.google.com/dskhatri/Screenshots/photo#51756...

I used:

- avant window navigator (https://launchpad.net/awn)

- Murrina Eternal Blue theme from http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Murrina-Eternal_b... (uses murrine engine)

- Humanoid-OSX Black window border (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Humanoid-OSX-Blac...)

- Emacs theming: Clarity and Beauty (https://gna.org/projects/color-theme)

- Conky system monitor (yet to create my own config file)

dskhatri··on Ask YC: What music do you listen to when hacking?
Pandora's (http://www.pandora.com) is pretty cool to run in the background. I've discovered lots of new music through the site..

Very similar to USC's also really-amazing, appropriately named SuperBot: http://waziwazi.com/node/26
dskhatri··on Asking for Feedback on Our Startup: Coordinatr.com
Aha.. cool.. I see the map now! Another suggestion: Coordinatr would be a great app if all my friends were regular users. However, I am guessing that a lot of people would rather use their regular scheduling tools (Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar) to keep track of events. Those calendars don't have as rich a feature-set as coordinatr but are still the first point of schedule tracking. Anyway, my point is: coordinatr can really set itself apart by somehow integrating with these calendar systems (something like how xobni attaches itself to Outlook, but something simpler)!
dskhatri··on Asking for Feedback on Our Startup: Coordinatr.com
Kudos for the nice simple styling and layout! A few minor points:

- would be great to highlight today's date in the calendar

- I don't know about the general populus but I never allow any site to import my gmail/yahoo contacts. The address book also links to plaxo. Can't you implement an import yourself?

- would be great to add a google map widget

dskhatri··on Scribd launches new platform and iPaper
Doesn't matter! Sometimes it's not the tool that's important but how you utilize it. Scribd guys are doing something smarter with the tool!

Requires real player unfortunately. A lot of the talks look like they're worth it though :)

dskhatri··on (YC Winter08) Addher.com goes Beta
I can see how this has huge revenue potential ala Hot or Not and a great potential to go viral. Catchy names (addHer, addmired) too! You should try harder not to look like another Hot or Not! The jittering photos are a little annoying!
dskhatri··on The Point Organizes a $4.8 Million Series A For Itself
Remember seeing the (co)founder post on news.YC. Congratulations!
dskhatri··on Ask YC: Are you self-funding/bootstrapping?
I just browsed through Pikluk and am impressed with the idea and execution. Have you guys tried getting media attention? You could email newspaper journalists, parent-type magazine editors to take a look at and review your site. That's free publicity and journalists are always looking for new things to write about!

dskhatri··on Ask YC: What has happened to Zenter?
Google added the presentations tool to its online 'office suite' not too long ago. The tool might have Zenter at its core (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/09/our-feature-presentat...)
dskhatri··on You Be The VC -- Your Idea + Our Support = Your Company
".. but we also will be taking a stake in the winning companies .. " Do they say how much they will take? I can't find the figure on their site. They should mention this. Also, I don't think the services they provide are so valuable to a spanking new startup (i.e. Administrative support, IT, Accounting support, Tax services). Does IT include hosting costs? Tempting.. but so many questions not answered
dskhatri··on Stranded at the airport? Don't forget Rule 240
Before anyone downmods hhm for a 'non-relevant' post, consider this: you're flying into Mountain View (San Jose or SF) for the YCombinator interview the day of. Say your flight gets delayed because of the 'weather' but another airline is flying on schedule to the Bay Area.. you will remember Rule 240 and thank HHM. :)

Too bad I couldn't use Rule 240 to argue my way into a free flight on my way back from Novembers YC interviews.. I can picture the airline agent look all smug and say "but sir, your flight was yesterday". Oops!

dskhatri··on Jet Pack Dreams Take Flight
There are already untethered jetpacks out there! http://www.jetpackinternational.com/video.html There are more videos on YouTube somewhere. Try searching "jet pack rose parade" or "jet pack wired nextfest"
dskhatri··on Stanford's New Website Converts Your Photos to 3D
There was PhotoSynth but that creates 3d photoscapes out of several photographs (http://labs.live.com/photosynth/). Unfortunately but predictably, their demo runs only on Windows :)
dskhatri··on Startup sets full mobile browser free
Mobile phone browsers with flash support would be great! I have Opera Mini (http://www.operamini.com/), a 'full' mobile browser on a BB but the experience isn't that great because of the small screen. I prefer BB's built in browser that automatically formats the webpage for the small screen.

dskhatri··on This Day Will Be Remembered: Facebook, Google And Plaxo Join The DataPortability Workgroup
Yup, if I was Facebook, I would join the Workgroup too if only to keep track of or keep good relations with a group that may affect my business. The article seems to exaggerate the importance of the move though.

dskhatri··on Dr. Seuss URL Names
Not really. Words from such languages are commonly found in the West. Microsoft named their Silverlight search front end Tafiti which is also derived from Kiswahili (tafuta - to search). Kiswahili is a widely spoken language in East Africa. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swahili_language). There are many other occurrences of the language in popular American culture! It makes sense to borrow words from other languages when there is "just no good option left" as you yourself say.
dskhatri··on Dr. Seuss URL Names
Some of the names are thought out! Kijiji means village/small town in Kiswahili and gives a sense of locality.
