dsco··on The number of banks willing to do business with the crypto industry is shrinking
Great take. I never see this type of anti-crypto sentiment on HN. What does it feel like to be a contrarian?
dsco··on “Why We Sleep” is riddled with scientific and factual errors (2019)
Maybe your mother is just overly neurotic, and most people who read the book don’t come to the conclusion that their 6 hours of sleep lead to cancer.
dsco··on Petals: Run 100B+ language models at home bit-torrent style
How would you incentivize nodes long-term without a reward/token system?
dsco··on Evolution of the Ethereum proof-of-stake consensus protocol
Look at that, crypto _is_ beautiful computer science after all, and not what the unoriginally critical HN crowd would like you to believe.
dsco··on Crypto/Web3 Startup Ideas (2023 Edition)
Uninformed take. How long didn’t it take for ML to actually create meaningful results? Just because a space is riddled with 80% grifters during bull markets doesn’t mean you get to discard the 20% who are building decentralized file storage, lending protocols, stablecoins (Dai in particular) etc.

Also after so many people trash crypto on HN daily - why’d you think it was even worth our time reading your post? At least some folks are funny with their takes.

dsco··on Show HN: 0xFast – Faster Web3 APIs
This doesn’t provide any value to the conversation. Imagine having good intentions, working in web3, and always seeing this type of comment on HH. Would you want it that way in whatever field you’re working in?
dsco··on AWS and Blockchain
See this is where HN has fallen off a cliff, the top commented Runeks supplies a highly theoretical and nonchalant answer to what blockchains _can_ be. That’s been the majority of HNs take on the technology. But the Internet was made for text communication and here we are decades later with social media and streaming video.

TimJRobinson at least states something which is rare on HN, a take on blockchain technology with experimental instead of theoretical knowledge on the subject matter.

dsco··on FTX to file for U.S. bankruptcy, CEO resigns
Institutions funded FTX - what are you on about with your very wordy but empty post?
dsco··on Feel the power of the Manifest v3
Where do you get the information that most web devs aren’t aware of Firefox?
dsco··on Uber broke laws, duped police and built lobbying operation, leak reveals
I know a bunch of people who are happy Uber drivers as they couldn’t afford becoming regular taxi drivers. Do you often point out to your Uber divers that they’re lower class and being preyed on? How do they take it?
dsco··on Vitalik Buterin Talks Georgism, Crypto, Voting Systems
Reading though your comment history is hilarious. It’s like you’re on a mission from Christ to destroy the evil crypto industry by authoring angry comments on HN. Did you ever think this was what you would spend your days doing?
dsco··on SpaceX said to fire employees involved in letter rebuking Elon Musk
These people can go work for other employers, or even start competing businesses. This type of agitative behavior is detrimental to productivity and serves no purpose. If they wanted the company to succeed so much why didn’t they just become management themselves and have a positive impact that way?
dsco··on Despite crypto layoffs, Kraken continues to hire
CEO is on point about the counter productive SJW culture. It fascinating to see it also have a foothold on HN https://twitter.com/jespow/status/1536978821345292288?s=21&t...
dsco··on Christine Lagarde Says Crypto “Worth Nothing” & Should Be Regulated
Who is doing that?
dsco··on Parmigiano Reggiano makers embedding tiny trackers in rind to fight cheese fraud
Where does it say anything about blockchains in the article and how often do you think about how much you hate them?
dsco··on Luna Cryptocurrency Collapse: How UST Broke
Ahh the good old Hacker news take on crypto. You must be proud of your originality.
dsco··on Shaving is an example of how consumer products extract more money
I’ve never understood shaving. Why not just buy a trimmer and trim it down to 1mm? Much more convenient, faster and cheaper. Also there’s very little visual difference - especially now that everything is remote.
dsco··on Google’s AI-powered ‘inclusive warnings’ feature is very broken
Why would you use the word filipinx when there’s already the gender neutral word Filipino? Also doesn’t filipinx exclude Filipinos outside of the American diaspora? Then what do you call Filipinos outside of that geographical area?

See, you’re digging your own semantic hole with all this political correctness.

dsco··on Bitconnect founder indicted in global $2.4B cryptocurrency scheme
It could provide as a store and transpiration means of value in times of crisis. For instance some of the Ukrainian banks are now shutdown. If you had crypto you could access your wealth. Same thing applies for Russian citizens who have nothing to do with the war but will soon have their assets frozen. Did you consider all use cases before posting, or just glee at yet another anti crypto post on HN and thought “yay! I get to post something negative about crypto again today”?
dsco··on Binance is taking a $200M stake in Forbes
I don’t think you feel bad, I think you feel good about shitting on crypto.
dsco··on Cryptocurrency scams cost owners $7.7B in 2021, driven by DeFi-based “rug pulls”
China has banned Bitcoin several times, there’s been hacks, there’s been central banks going after crypto - yet it’s still here. Why do you believe the whole thing might fall apart?

What you’re missing is that whenever there’s panic selling there’s always someone on the other side finding a great discount.

dsco··on The web is fucked
Web 3 has components of what he’s nostalgic about. Especially when you start using products such as Spooky Swap and Trader Joe. There’s no cookie notices, no ads, no dark patterns.

Too bad HN absolutely loathes crypto in general, because I do see a glimmer of hope in the wild wild West that is web 3

dsco··on Is Web3 anything?
But wouldn't you first look up that developers prior work history on the blockchain? I'd just ask what they've deployed in the past and could then easily verify if they are skilled or a bad actor. As for the funds being stolen I think we're just at the beginning of crypto custody services. It's like in the eighteen hundreds saying banks are a bad idea because they get robbed all the time.
dsco··on Fe – An emerging smart contract language for the Ethereum blockchain
You have a three day old account and all you do is post negative comments about crypto. Seems like a lowly way of life.
dsco··on Fe – An emerging smart contract language for the Ethereum blockchain
You never provided counter arguments. How can I trust you if you’re just an anonymous person online stating something without backing it up? At least the crypto guy had some examples. How about you state why those applications in questions have no utility?
dsco··on Fe – An emerging smart contract language for the Ethereum blockchain
How is this helping the conversation Brian?
dsco··on The Handwavy Technobabble Nothingburger of Crypto
What if you’re stuck in Turkey with its current inflation and want to hedge against it? Or what if you’re someone who would like to in a permissionless way buy Bitcoin options?

What the Hacker News crowd generally misses about crypto is that it’s technology, ideology and finance in one package. They keep on arguing against the storage model itself (centralized vs decentralized) and miss the bigger picture.

So many of these anti blockchain comments remind me of the initial HN reaction to Dropbox and people saying that “hey, you can just set this up yourself on a Linux machine”.

You’re missing the point. A 3 trillion dollar industry doesn’t give a shit about your database takes and how it’s all a bubble - we’re way beyond that.

dsco··on Ask HN: What are some tools / libraries you built yourself?
I wonder if some explanatory texts, alongside usability improvements could help you get more users. I can’t tell if your website is useful since I know anything about DNA sequencing - but from a UX perspective there is room for some improvements.
dsco··on Berkshire: Bitcoin is ‘contrary to the interest of civilization.’
Isn’t that the same for gold? That it’s for speculation? Or stocks.
dsco··on I self-learned to code at 30
I learned to code around the age of 7, and I too agree that there's no way in hell we can get everyone interested in learning how to code. It's something I basically can't explain why I enjoy doing. How would you even get someone who doesn't understand programming to get interested in a career of software engineering?
