"i could almost turn "could macs be good value?" into a mandatory interview question, because those who say no don't understand how trading money for time works. working with such fools is incredibly tedious and painful."

I would advise against that, unless you are in the habit of interviewing people who value their time at $200+ per hour, such as in your above example. Otherwise, their answer may be coming from a slightly different mindset.

Peer pressure, mostly in the form of Big Media.

Yes, it's called "perm gen cache," or something like that, on any standard JVM profile. This roughly represents the memory used by the type system. It can get pretty high if you are doing something like auto-generating types (GUI, build systems, etc)

Funny, I had no idea it could do all that. I've been using it in production for years to extract width/height/duration of media files at compile time so my loading placeholders are perfectly sized at runtime in a basic web app.

What if what you described was done by an algorithm rather than by human trickery? What if that action was discovered "per chance" through machine learning? I myself don't feel there is anything morally wrong with that. Why should I feel differently when a human does it rather than an algorithm at an HFT firm?

Genuinely curious of your thoughts!

Can confirm. My best friend is a sales guy at the place I landed my first real (W2) job. Been 5 years and going strong. I am even the "Sr. Engineer" now, working on first principals and loving it!

This actually sounds very close to a need I have been trying to fill, and failing to do so. I have many of these same issues, and can't stand dealing with touch feely psycs (I am way to practical for that nonsense). I realize that many of my issues are simply behavioral and can be overcome through simple training, and have been seeking a "personal trainer" of sorts.

Is this an actual product you have out in production now, or is it still in the planning stages so far? I would be very interested in further developments. I am a Software Engineer by trade, so please let me know if you would like any beta testers.

Cheers and thank you!
