Back in the day I thought Obama was amazing. He was articulate and considered in his manner of speech. Then we hearing about the drone strikes with heavy collateral damage. And then Snowden came out and told us how Obama administration had put in place all the necessary infrastructure for a surveillance state. And then he put in place Title XI and kangaroo courts at Universities to completely undermine the core tenet of our legal system "Innocent until proven guilty".
Articulate does not equal morality or justice or fairness. It certainly did not with Obama.
I have been exposed to hysterical propaganda about the mythical pay gap but never seen in real life and speaking about it with my peer managers neither have they.
This emperor has no clothes.
Me and my friend have an interest in model aircrafts and drones and often spoke in person about building a new drone/airplane from scratch as fun project and this was the first time that Autocad was even mentioned in our discussion. Another data point we are both old school and would talk about this over beers in the pub rather than through messaging apps.
The only thing linking me to Autocad was that single email I got in Gmail.
Note I hadn't clicked the link yet, simply read the small paragraph my friend wrote along with the YT link "hey check this guy out he is using autocad for blah blah".
That was the day I stopped using Gmail.
Epic et al can f* off
Here is how you can test it (using .io or .me domains): Search for domain on Namecheap, they usually have good prices for the 1st year. Add it to cart and then change it to 3 years and watch the price zoom up, not to 3x but more like 6-8x in cost. Now go to a different registrar and do the same. In my experience for 3 years Namecheap are always more expensive.
I am really afraid this is another sign of the death throes of Liberal values and institutions.
They need to realise that pragmatism and nuance are acceptable and desirable attributes of a sustainable and long lasting civilisation.
Same codebase loaded up in Webstorm vs VS Code and I can't see any difference.
Webstorm took about 10-20 seconds to index it but their implementation of the AST is unbelievable. So much more powerful than VS Code. I get code completion in way more places than VS Code and even when they both provide options Webstorm takes the local context into account and much more accurate than VS Code. Refactoring is breeze.
There is no comparison. I happily pay the initial load up time in the morning for smoother ride for the rest of the day.
That would be like Google in Mountain View claiming that they don't avoid paying tax and they are the good guys, but Google SA Netherlands & Ireland who are the assholes who scam countries out of their share of tax revenue (The Dutch Irish sandwich tax loophole that they use).
You give far too much credit to the world's largest advertising company and probably the world's biggest corporate/private holder of personal and tracking data on the human population.
Any suggestion of an altruistic motive behind any Google policy/practice/implementation is disingenuous at best.
Now some 6-8 weeks later I go back to continue reading and I found that any posts dealing with social issues from those first 10 was no longer accessible even though I read them on the internet archive on those same links not more than 2 months ago

Say over a month you burn enough calories to eat an extra steak to make up the energy lost, would the environment be better or worse off?
What about time lost? Say you wasted an extra hour or two every fortnight just getting to and from the fridge, what if instead you had read a book or worked on your hobbies? Would you be happier? Would your family be happier having an extra hour of time every fortnight?
I had a question about your work ethic on this project. Did you treat like a full time job Mon-Fri 9-5 or more like College project with frequent all-nighters? How did you sustain the motivation to keep going even through the rough patches as a solo developer?
Would love to read blog post about your journey through this.
Read up on bid/ask spreads and market makers. It’s a pretty profitable business. Even more so than just charging “dumb commission fees”
And that $25,000 “class” limit, hahaha that’s like saying that payday loan providers are a community service.
