dreur··on Is There A Place For a Premium JVM?
Yes maybe they can sell it to companies having to deal with existing systems, but what about new ones?

I believe people are going to think twice before going further on the Java path.

Like Osvaldo Doederlein said on the site :

  people would immediately think "today Oracle charges for top optimizations;
next year they will charge for common bugfixes; later on, even for security patches"
and this kind of FUD might destroy Java
dreur··on Oracle cooks up free and premium JVMs
Just after announcing that IBM will be working with them on OpenJDK

dreur··on Ask HN: What if I missed the good stuff in my undergraduate education?
Thanks for that, do you remember where you read it?

Feels a bit strange to ask you to remember a book/article about memory but sounds like a great read.

dreur··on Ask HN: What are you working on today?
I've discovered Kohana recently and it looks promising and the only HMVC Framework I know. As for the Symfony doc, I think it is wonderful ... offering free online books is one of the main reason for its popularity.
dreur··on Why I hate frameworks (2005)
Hahaha I love that sentence : In the process, I’m evaluating a bunch of J2EE portlet-enabled JSR-compliant MVC role-based CMS web service application container frameworks...

Just Wowwww :)

dreur··on Ask HN: Examples of applications built with Node.js?
In fact, what would be a use case of Node.js?

I know it is a rather interesting tech but other than that what do you/would you use Node.js for?

dreur··on BIT operations in PHP (a simple example)
An interesting way of dealing with flags depending on the kind of app you are developing, I wouldn't use that technique often.
dreur··on Ask HN: What are you working on today?
I would recommend Symfony as a PHP framework.
dreur··on To-do app + RPG = EpicWin
The video is awesome.
dreur··on To-do app + RPG = EpicWin

dreur··on Feel an earthquake in Eastern North America?
Yes, in Ottawa - Near the epicenter.
dreur··on Eclipse 3.6 Helios is here
On Linux 32bits and 64bits it is faster than Galileo. (Seems faster and uses less memory)
dreur··on 'First to Do It' vs. 'First to Do It Right'
It may applies to large corporation, but I don't think that for Startups it applies. We want a mix of those two ways of thinking to

1) Get some features out to gain traction/user

2) Make sure it works and that the user experience will not be negatively impacted.

We have to learn from our mistakes and also learn from what our users want. For that we need to experiment even if it means refactoring / do things differently when we need to.
