dredmorbius··on Why aren't smart people happier? (2022)
The initial use was to ration advanced education (secondary or higher), so as not to lavish it on "morons" (at the time a technical term).

Similar in concept to the German Abitur, which originally tracked students into Gymnasium or vocational tracks. Today it comes at the end of a secondary education (high-school) programme, and is comparable to British A-levels.

And just to emphasize, "the preferred form of the work for making modifications to it" is a direct quote from GPLv3, under which the Linux kernel is licensed.

<https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.en.html>

If GrapheneOS are finding the Google Drive option inadequate, they might choose to invoke Section 6 clause b of the GPL "Convey the object code in, or embodied in, a physical product (including a physical distribution medium)".

Note that AOSP as a whole is covered under the Apache 2.0 licence, which permits but does not obligate third-party distribution of source. That is, it's not a "copyleft" licence in the sense of the GPL.

Googles notes on why BSD/MIT/Apache licences are preferred are ... informative.

If you want GrapheneOS, the only other option, still pending, is Motorolla.

A partnership was announced earlier this year, but no devices will be delivered until 2027.

It's been possible to buy Fairphone indirectly in the US for quite some time, as I understand.

Fairphone have just announced direct sales within the past week or so (noted by others here).

SCOTUS has overwhelmingly sided with the Administration. Not always, but quite often.

Which is all the more reason that discussing it in 1933 would have been viewed incredulously. Your reply only strengthens the original comment.

Unless the crimes are alleged to have been committed by the political classes themselves.

Lists of indictments (and convictions) by administration over the past 50+ years (dating to the Nixon administration) shows a sharp majority under Republican presidential administrations.

For a longer history: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_political_scan...>

Note that the US has had (by general consensus) six or seven party systems, with significant re-alignments occurring at several points.

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_eras_of_the_United_S...>

The two most recent shifts, which Wikipedia traces to roughly 1980 and 2016 have substantially changed what were traditional hallmarks particularly of the Republican Party. Whilst in rhetoric the GOP remains "tough on crime", in practice it rather more consistently hews to Wilhoit's Law: "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

There are some of us who do have problems with cameras on computers/phones, and will take steps to disable or obscure them, if removal or purchase without such a feature isn't an option.

And further, jurors cannot be held legally or criminally liable for their verdict in a case.

But yes, a clear and accurate description, thank you.

Burner phone / clean phone for border crossings seems the more accessible option.

As others have noted, this is standard policy amongst many organisations, some on account of US policies and practices, some on account of other states.

Solomon "Sol" Wachtler appears to have coined the phrase.

He is a retired New York judge, ultimately chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals.

And still living at 96.

Depending on the jurisdiction and court procedural rules, there may be other routes to an indictment.

I'm no expert on Ohio law however, so I don't know what specifically applies here.

dredmorbius··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
If words have meanings, no. Jury Nullification arises out of double-jeopardy protections specifically, which requires a trial and not-guilty verdict.

This is a failure-to-indict only.
