Became a hacker after learning to read, sold my first company when I was 10, and started a VC fund at 13. I program for breakfast, create disruptive companies for lunch, and eat PhDs for dinner. While asleep, I generate passive-income and dream of my next TED talk.

dreamdu5t··on A Two Month Debugging Story
Writing 6000 integration and unit tests can be avoided by using purely functional statically-typed languages. There are some that even compile to JS, such as PureScript. Most of what typical JS tests check can be expressed with pure functions and types.
dreamdu5t··on Show HN: Chatbots made easy – Build, train, and deploy bots
It's possible to buy iPhone apps by sending a check in the mail... missing my point entirely.
dreamdu5t··on Show HN: Chatbots made easy – Build, train, and deploy bots
Bots are broken as a platform. No advertising, no payments system, developers have to pay for hosting, there's no discovery mechanism because the messengers don't have bot stores... Why would developers be interested?
dreamdu5t··on Ask HN: Found a way to fraud my bank thru a loophole, how to disclose properly?
The bank isn't going to pay you money. You gain nothing from reporting this, and risk getting fucked over for mere pennies. Just forget about it and move on with your life.
dreamdu5t··on A Farewell to FRP
It looks like Subscriptions are just Signals with another name. I don't see any difference except that functions like map, foldp, etc. have been removed to discourage first-order use of them.
dreamdu5t··on A Farewell to FRP
Yeah, Pux can do server-side rendering, and PureScript can be used with webpack alongside other JS. PureScript also has a much easier FFI.
dreamdu5t··on A Farewell to FRP
Elm does things the same way. However, PureScript has lenses so the same thing can be done if you're using the equivelant of Elm in purescript, purescript-pux
dreamdu5t··on A Farewell to FRP
Looks like Elm moved closer to Pux's API by dropping the signals for `Html action`. Check out Pux if you're interested in the same architecture but for PureScript.

dreamdu5t··on Ask HN: Do you use a language not normally associated with web development?
I'm using PureScript because it is purely functional and has a powerful type system like Haskell, but compiles to JS with easy FFI and I can use it with webpack. I'm writing both a backend API server and frontend app with it. It's been amazingly productive and a godsend for writing type-safe JS.

On the front-end, it has purescript-pux, which is pretty much a port of the Elm architecture. The language/community is really shaping up.

dreamdu5t··on Students at Fake University Say They Were Collateral Damage in Sting Operation
The only fucker here is you, defending the idea that people who pay money to try and get into the US should be punished. Working hard and immigrating illegally are not mutually exclusive - nor does these students illegally coming here harm anyone whose already here.
dreamdu5t··on Students at Fake University Say They Were Collateral Damage in Sting Operation
How were American students hurt by this? Immigrating illegally is a victimless crime.
dreamdu5t··on Students at Fake University Say They Were Collateral Damage in Sting Operation
I'm not arguing anything. Students who pay thousands of dollars to try and get citizenship so they can work and make a life for themselves aren't the problem, should not be seen as "the enemy", and aren't fraudsters. Someone who intends to trick others for financial gain is a fraudster. Get some perspective.

If a kid uses my credit card to sign up for a porn subscription... she has technically committed fraud. But she's not a fraudster, and throwing the book at her would be seen as ridiculous.

dreamdu5t··on Students at Fake University Say They Were Collateral Damage in Sting Operation
> My grandparents came here, legally, worked their ass off to provide and integrated.

That doesn't mean people who come here illegally don't work their ass off. But typical American attitude "I got mine so screw you!"

dreamdu5t··on Students at Fake University Say They Were Collateral Damage in Sting Operation
Bigger picture? The bigger picture is Americans think going to school and working should be illegal for anyone else but themselves, and that it's okay to hurt young students trying to get ahead in the name of protecting their xenophobic and hypocritical immigration laws. Your presidential candidate's biggest idea is a fucking giant wall to keep the mexicans you love to employ out.

What a joke. If you think there's any sense to stings like this you're deluded.

dreamdu5t··on Students at Fake University Say They Were Collateral Damage in Sting Operation
Duping and hurting innocent people who want to study or work in the US so they can collect their paycheck and pat themselves on the back for, what? Nothing. The brokers only exist because of the US's absurd anti-immigration policies! When I studied in America, ALL the foreigners including myself worked illegally to earn money to pay for school. Meanwhile, the American students were rude, lazy, and constantly complained about having to go to class 30 hours a week. Try having to wash dishes for $3/hr on top of that under the threat of deportation! America's rhetoric about "free markets" is completely bullshit. They're a heartless nation when it comes to education and healthcare.
dreamdu5t··on Instagram insists littergram app is renamed
I can't believe people are defending Instagram here... They haven't got a case but are bullying with their lawyers as all big companies do. How pathetic! Queue the armchair lawyers saying Instagram has to because trademarks require enforcement and other nonsense.
dreamdu5t··on Telegram to award grants to bot developers
What money? There's no platform for payments or advertising on Telegram. Advertising doesn't seem very practical with bots. Telegram has given no details or examples of what qualifies for the $25k rewards. It's not clear what level of production they're looking for... a bot that tells you the weather or a virtual girlfiend with full-blown NLP? Innovation prizes are cool but you can't play if you don't remotely know what qualifies as winning.
dreamdu5t··on The driverless truck is coming, and it’s going to automate millions of jobs
Can someone explain why we're supposedly getting driverless cars and trucks yet the simplistic task of ordering food isn't automated? Why does McDonald's have order takers?
dreamdu5t··on Telegram to award grants to bot developers
Why not allow charging for bots and stickers? It stifles bot innovation as there are many great bots that have real costs that must be sustained somehow. Same with stickers. Great artists have zero incentive to make sticker packs since they can't charge for them and anyone can give them away to other users.

Developers and artists should be treated like stakeholders rather than cannon-fodder and free labor.

dreamdu5t··on Ask HN: Information extraction software?
I can build the software for you if you need.
dreamdu5t··on Ask HN: What programming languages produce code most/least prone to bugs?
Try PureScript! It's type-checked and purely functional (no crashes or runtime errors) and compiles to JavaScript. You can use it reasily with webpack too. I'm using it in production and it's amazing. Check out http://www.purescript.org and build React UIs using http://alexmingoia.github.io/purescript-pux
dreamdu5t··on Brain scans reveal how LSD affects consciousness
Do you have any insights on helpful therapies, or really any advice on what you think is the mechanism?

My significant other experienced the same kind of unexplainable paranoia/anxiety that also had a sudden onset that didn't seem to be triggered by anything. In her case, alcohol is still the most effective medication, combined with anti-anxiety drugs for the "bad days".

dreamdu5t··on Facebook Rights Manager
Just imagine if we had the computing power to start randomly generating images for every pixel combination. You could copyright every image possible before the photo was taken
dreamdu5t··on Facebook Rights Manager
They aren't robbed of views - they didn't have those views in the first place and didn't create them - the freebooter did
dreamdu5t··on Facebook Rights Manager
someone should randomly generate images and copyright every combination of pixels possible.
dreamdu5t··on Why Learning to Code Won't Save Your Job
All evidence to the contrary. Software is eating the world, and continues to at a rapid pace. Transportation, medicine, and finance have only begun to be eaten. This trend is far from over and when it's done, there will only be programmers and their machines. Programming will be the only job.

It's the most inclusive industry. It's the only industry where people are going to trade-schools for mere months and then getting jobs with 2-3x their previous salary.

dreamdu5t··on Side Projects
Maybe it's that more side-projects are being bootstrapped rather than VC funded? It doesn't seem Fred Wilson has thought about that.
dreamdu5t··on GitHub contribution graph can be harmful to contributors
Please start naming employers that ask why you have gaps in the graph. I'd like to know who they are.
dreamdu5t··on Interoperability and the W3C: Defending the Future from the Present
We don't need the W3C and never have.
dreamdu5t··on Ask HN: What would you use to build a super simple web app?
Pux (like Elm) in PureScript (purely functional JavaScript).
