Those who were purchasing it need to go to the global market instead, increasing overall demand on that market

Yes I agree that would need to involve the DA

IANAL

It's a civil proceeding not a criminal proceeding so he would not be incriminating himself.

He could argue that by answering he would be admitting crimes and opening himself to criminal liability. But there's a possibly they give him immunity and that route is taken away.

I hope you aren't talking about the one in Massachusetts which is not pronounced either of those ways
drdec··on WA income tax clears House after 24-hour debate
So what is your answer then?
drdec··on WA income tax clears House after 24-hour debate
A popular technique is to be compensated in options. Don't exercise the options, but take out loans against them.
drdec··on WA income tax clears House after 24-hour debate
The first set of US federal tax rates when it was allowed by the 16th amendment with adjustments for inflation on the the right:

Orig Income Rate Adj Income (2025 Dollars)
  Up to $20,000 1% Up to $600,000
  $20,000 to $50,000 2% $600,000 to $1,500,000
  $50,000 to $75,000 3% $1,500,000 to $2,250,000
  $75,000 to $100,000 4% $2,250,000 to $3,000,000
  Over $100,000 5% Over $3,000,000
The point being that once you allow the tax, it has a tendency to become more and more. It's much easier to raise income tax than establish it.

I don't have a dog in this fight and if it's what the people of Washington want, so be it.

drdec··on Payment fees matter more than you think
This is the discussion I was responding to:

>> Cards don't make money from their fees. They make money from people who fail to pay and then pay the ridiculous interest.

> Interchange fees seem to be a sizable portion of revenue. Discover has listed them as 29% of revenue, BoA at ~$10B annually…

My complaint is that pointing at revenue alone does not rebut the initial statement. That's all. The argument was insufficient, not your side of the argument is wrong.

drdec··on Payment fees matter more than you think
You are the one implying that the revenue becomes profit. The burden is on you to make the case not on me to prove a negative. There are plenty of high revenue low margin businesses. There are also low revenue high margin businesses. So there is not a direct correlation between revenue and profit.
drdec··on Payment fees matter more than you think
Revenue does not equal profit
drdec··on Don't become an engineering manager
Until you are dealing with a difficult employee or struggling with whether to put someone on a PIP or being asked to deliver things you don't have direct control over or dealing with penny-pinching edicts from above etc. etc.
drdec··on Don't create .gitkeep files, use .gitignore instead (2023)
Then why do you need a build directory?
drdec··on America vs. Singapore: You can't save your way out of economic shocks
The trust fund is funded by the overage of collected Social Security taxes compared to Social Security payouts. It is not "tacked on" and does not use "separate government funding".

Currently there are more payouts than taxes so the trust fund is being used to make up the difference.

When the trust fund is depleted (barring any changes, this happens at some point in the next decade if I'm not mistaken) then there will be a reckoning. If no action is taken by Congress the result is that payouts will be cut by the necessary percentage to match the taxes.

Have you considered it was just proximity? The overlords know you were in proximity with your friend. It is not unreasonable to assume you share interests and would respond to the same ads.
drdec··on Chrome extensions spying on users' browsing data
Absolutely. I have not installed useful browser extensions because Mozilla isn't the maintainer. E.g. the Google container.

All this is happening before then, no? So people can take that into account when pricing IPO shares, or deciding if the IPO ask is too high.
drdec··on They lied to you. Building software is hard
Maybe the outcome they had in mind was "it helps, but nowhere near 10x"?

Also, I'm not sure anyone was making 10x claims about the tools you cite.

drdec··on Employers, please use postmarked letters for job applications (2025)
I think you are ignoring the advantage for the applicant.

The reduction in what are essentially spam applications means your genuine application will stand out and be more likely to be considered.

Things that help employers find qualified candidates also help those qualified candidates.

drdec··on Douglas Adams on the English–American cultural divide over "heroes"
Jim is the hero of the US version of the Office

He doesn't succeed so much at work but he does in his personal life

drdec··on Douglas Adams on the English–American cultural divide over "heroes"
In the first Indiana Jones, the hero makes no positive contribution to the outcome in the end. He is just along for the ride.

To be fair, it requires a little bit of thinking to see. The general audience might see it as success because the outcome was "good" even if it had nothing to do with anything Jones did.

As a native English speaker studying Spanish, my impression is that English cares about the consonants and Spanish is way more about the vowels. YMMV
