I make lots of edits after I post; caveat emptor. Also, and I hate to have to say this, I hate American Nazis.

drawkward··on Bezos says WP opinion page will focus on 'personal liberties' and 'free markets'
Robber Barons gonna rob. It's the Silicon Valley model. We've all talked about the playbook for slowly eroding services and adding intrusive new subscription models, advertising where it wasn't, etc.

IT IS THE SILICON VALLEY VC MODEL:

-Amass capital

-Use capital to undercut the market (even if that requires breaking the law)

-Build moats

-Kill competitors

-Enjoy your monopoly

drawkward··on Tesla sales in Europe down 45% in January
No need to get defensive! Lots of things that are causally unrelated to WW2 happened before it, and there are many people around trying to excuse Musk's Nazi salute as something that it is not, including as a "Bellamy Salute" or "Roman Salute"
drawkward··on Peter Thiel's Religion
Of course. This is Hacker News where the general audience is people who aspire to be like him.
drawkward··on Tesla sales in Europe down 45% in January
I'll help fund your kickstarter, if i get a sticker pack.
drawkward··on Tesla sales in Europe down 45% in January
At some point (IMO: the first time you do it), cosplaying a Nazi is no different than being a Nazi.
drawkward··on Tesla sales in Europe down 45% in January
Specifically, it went out of style because it was easily confused with that Nazi salute...according to your own link.
drawkward··on DOGE will use AI to assess the responses of federal workers
Hopefully, Musk being a disaster for Trump is similarly oracular.

Squid Game

As a coda: how does that alive/dead ratio compare to other past MOTs?
drawkward··on The 'masculinity crisis' is a crisis of self-esteem
Well, part of a generation of young men. But those young men, being toxic and masculine, decided to throw a temper and break the government, while the part of the generation who saw the effects of toxic masculininty and agreed it was a problem watched on in horror.

You would have to ask John Marshall, who authored the opinion in Marbury v Madison

In America, we fund religious and separatist schools! Yippee!
drawkward··on Disclosure of personal information to DOGE “is irreparable harm,” judge rules
I agree, the irony is astounding morally, but legally easily explainable: the constitution protects us from the government, not private enterprise.

IMO, the government should protect us from private enterprise, when said enterprise becomes predatory.

As a data scientist, I'd have to know the context: how many threads in the same scope have been flagged to death? I realize that my observations are not a representative sample, but I would estimate for every 1 thread about the current admin that isn't killed, 2-3 are killed. It is a common observation, amd spoken about by others.
drawkward··on Elon Musk admits email to government workers was a ruse
He is calling it a ruse because other Trump appointees told their employees that Elon can go pound sand, and he couldnt bear to face the fact that he got told no.

God what a fucking man-child. The most insecure human I have even witnessed. It is embarrassing.

drawkward··on The 'masculinity crisis' is a crisis of self-esteem
Perhaps. In any case, young or old, it is still a self esteem crisis. Its not a new thing.
drawkward··on US asked to kick UK out of Five Eyes
>In a letter to the recently appointed US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard, senator Ron Wyden of Colorada and representative Andy Biggs of Arizona bluntly ask the administration to kick the UK out of the 65-year-old UK-USA signals intelligence sharing agreement, commonly known as Five Eyes, if they do not now withdraw the demand to Apple.

I want to know where the fuck Colarada is.

Also, Wyden represents Oregon.

drawkward··on The 'masculinity crisis' is a crisis of self-esteem
Always has been. In the USA, we have an archetype for it: midlife crisis.

drawkward··on Is Ketamine Neurotoxic?
I think 98% of the "plausible deniability" folks know it was a nazi salute; they just dont care because they are happy about the destruction of the federal government.
drawkward··on Is Ketamine Neurotoxic?

Names?

drawkward··on Partnering with the Shawnee Tribe for Civilization VII
You've got it right: it comes down to personal preference.

>Later, during the 1920s and 1930s, Italian fascists and Nazi Germans adopted a salute which was very similar, which they attributed to the so-called Roman salute, a gesture that is wrongly thought to have been used in ancient Rome. This resulted in controversy over the use of the Bellamy salute in the United States. It was officially replaced by the hand-over-heart salute when Congress amended the Flag Code on December 22, 1942.

In other words, when people decided "fuck that, I dont want to look like a Nazi" they did something different.

Which is precisely why what Musk did was a Nazi salute. Because we know not to do them for fear of being mistaken for a Nazi. The deniability is implausible at this stage.

drawkward··on Is Ketamine Neurotoxic?
It was a nazi salute.

There is no plausible deniability; it was a nazi salute.

drawkward··on DOGE's only public ledger is riddled with mistakes
Trivially refuted by pointing out that HN readers are not "the left" and that the original assertion refers to "decades" of this behavior.

How soft does one have to be to consider "downvoting" a punishment?

drawkward··on Penn to reduce graduate admissions, rescind acceptances amid research cuts
Defend the cathedral!

Without the production of knowledge, it will soon prove impossible to levy objective evidence against the despicable lies of the Trump administration.

drawkward··on DOGE's only public ledger is riddled with mistakes
My quibble is not the hypothetical, it is your implicit claim that the situations are similar. Thats what an analogy is.

The mere fact of your defending Russian invasion of Ukraine is enough to completely discredit your opinion on the matter.

drawkward··on DOGE's only public ledger is riddled with mistakes
First off, youre misquoting me. Thats just despicable.

Second, you have shown us three examples of Ukraine fending off Russian aggression.

I dont know why you are advancing Russian propaganda, but the fact that you are provides moe than enough justification to completely ignore your claims.
