dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: What knowledge or skills do you hope your kids to have?
My perspective was Suffering causes pain, and there is a reason behind it, either you are weak to handle and take ownership so you want to run away from it.

Or either you are anxious and don't want something to let go of, embracing the pain is kind of accepting the situation and deciding to do something about it.

Progress = ( Pain / Suffering ) +_Reflection

Learnt from Ray Dalio, not my original thoughts.

dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: What knowledge or skills do you hope your kids to have?
I think games are the best way to depict this, on a higher level. Once your child can understand the concept of

Input -> System -> Output

Then you can show them example of modelling different activities happening around you.

What i have learned as my own is you need an underlying concept to model the systems.

For example : Elon musk use physics and break down everything based on first principle thinking, i resonate more with Input -> Compute -> Output.

So i try to break everything into such a model and then try to understand the processes..

Most of the things happening around us can be aligned to few principles...

Most of the social media is (Virtue Signaling, Rent Seekers, and Funnel)

You need to understand these things in order to identify them. So yeah you have to teach all the basic principles.

Economics (Just what is transaction and what encompasses an Economy) and little bit of Psychology and so and so.

Idea is that most of us are just machines with emotions (which are itself a product of hormones).

dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: What knowledge or skills do you hope your kids to have?
- Ability to determine whether a fact is fake or not.

- Computer Science (Think Like a Programmer)

- Empathy

- To go through a struggle and learn from it.

- Embrace Pain instead of running away from it.

- Handle Personal Finance (Tax, Saving, Investment)

- System Thinking (Understand Everyone is Playing a Game)

- Not get influenced by Advertising. (Dont be funnel)

- Dont be a skinner box.

- Ability to love one person for rest of their life.

dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: (Anyone has written / Hot to write) a functional codebase?
If anyone is struggling to understand RXJS and Reactive Programming can reach out to me. I will be happy to help you.
dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: Do you find it troubling to choose what to wear?
For me, it becomes really troubling sometimes so often time I just iterate between 3-4 pairs for weeks and then suddenly I realize, I can wear others also.

Also, I have noticed one bias towards wearing new clothes and putting away the old but good ones for Months and not picking them up until one day I look at my cupboard and then putting them back again.

I know it's not a thing of priority but it just sometimes bothers me to find a system where I can distribute my clothes equally based on number of days and wear all of them equally.

dprophecyguy··on Hackable humans and digital dictators: Q&A with Yuval Noah Harari
Do any of you guys can think of something that we can do in order to get rid of the problems that's described in this talk. I am asking for solutions that may or may not work but just a guess. What about the problem with Bio-Engineering? What about hacking humans and predicting humans behavior? I want to hear what is your thoughts on the solutions to these problems?
dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: Any step by step guide to get better in CSS with projects?
Thank you, bro, it was really helpful. On the process of working through the basics first. Learning flexbox and grid system. Will start working on Projects through hyperpixel then. But thanks for sharing all these awesome resources.
dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: Any step by step guide to get better in CSS with projects?
Thanks for the resources. I was looking something exactly like this. I needed some inspiration as in some project that I which I can refer and built upon. Your project will definitely help me.
dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: Is this is a good way to learn JavaScript?
Go to freecodecamp.org and complete it. It will take you only one day to get started if you have any prior programming experience. After that, you will be pointed to different JS projects. Work on them and finish them and tada you know JS.
dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: A crash course in networking
http://beej.us/guide/bgnet/

This is by far the best networking book I have read. Based on Top-Down approach rather than explaining us the concept.

dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: Why, you all intellectual people not quitting Facebook?
Sorry if the title gives you the feeling of condescension in the title but by Intellectual, I mean people who can assess the situation and can act according to it. The people who know right and wrong about it.

I am from India and here I can guarantee you that 95% of people are not even aware of whats going on in this social media ecosystem. What it does, what the impact of it and everything. And hence I felt like why people who know that it's bad why they cant get rid of it.

Now coming to your points.

- The human need for social connection (I really feel that nobody really get some valuable interaction out of any social media. The only exception being when you talk to someone special and someone you won't have access directly in your circle.) I think what most people relate to social interaction is via liking other people's posts and also getting your post being liked in return which is equivalent to your 4 point getting the dopamine hit and boosting your ego.

- Ignorance point is right but its also being complemented with the fact that they are being bombarded with these values that these companies have cooked to tell that whatever they are doing clicking and scrolling is somehow adding value to their lives.

- I agree with your 4th point Ego is the only thing that we get as in case of dopamine hit. But do you really want to go that path?

- Fast food equivalent of catching up but again my same argument ? are you really catching up ? or is it the just fake perception of catching up?

- I am running out of time but I also disagree with your last two points about losing contact and detachment because I don't think these things are fulfilled by them. It's just fake values that we start believing in and start perceiving how to be in contact and detachment the way these big companies want us to believe.

dprophecyguy··on Avengers Infinity Trailer 2
I can't stop looking at it. I am going nuts.
dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: How to self-learn math?
I know people are recommending a lot of books here but I want to say this, I know a lot of you guys might going to shit on me but telling someone about 5-6 book in order to self-learn maths is never going to help. I see that when someone people ask for help instead of relating what he is really asking for that he wants to understand and learn math people start telling the names of these books that they knew about not thinking about the effect that straight up throwing 6 book titles will do no good to the person. So now I have defined the problem I will tell you only one resource I know its bit of understatement but I think Learning math from Khan Academy would be sufficient for you. And once you find something on Khan Academy and you are done with it. I will recommend you this site www.brilliant.org And if you still want to practice just search for test question papers and cheat sheet on the topic you want to practice. Print the cheat sheet beside you, and do as many questions you can with the help of cheat sheet.

To the person who is asking the question and people who are writing the answers I just want to say that knowing a lot of good resources to go through, is not the learning. Now I see this thing happening everywhere, people want to know about the process so much that instead of doing what needs to be done they kind of start storing this metadata of the process and this thing is happening a lot on the internet. People know a lot of resources, a lot of tutorials and video and a shit load of things. But when it comes to execution and practice I can hardly say only a very few might have gone to complete what they have started. I am saying all this because I have gone through this cycle myself I have wasted 2 years of my life. Collecting resources related to ML, web development, Math, Psychology, Philosophy you say whatever you find interesting I will tell you some famous book or MOOC course on that. So I will ask everyone this question take a look on 1 back of your life, if you guys were trying to learn anything do a retrospective whether you really have learned anything, write things that are going right, right things going wrong and start doing things, making project, solving problems really doing the things not just trying to perfect the process. I can go on but I think I have made the point if I keep writing more I think I will contradict myself that it's not about what and how info you get it's about you get something actionable out of something. If some 2-minute video gives you something actionable to do rather than going through a 2-hour chapter in textbook there is no point of going through 2-hour chapter. Knowledge is all about applying not learning the facts and saying it around to your friends I know it feels good but nothing comes out of it in real life.

dprophecyguy··on Ask HN: Breadth vs. Depth in Learning, What to Aim For?
I have tried doing the weekend project but there I have this problem that I want them to do the right way only. Result of this I almost spent my day exploring through all the packages and libraries and just starting enough that I can't move forward in any direction. I know I have to overcome this and do something concrete but yeah this is where I am.

A lot of time I spent my weekends doing datastructures and algo. It seems at that time that I am learning but there too I didn't see myself making any progress it resets every time I take a break of a week or two and I myself admit that I am not persistent in any of my choices on what to do on weekends. I work in a 6 day job here. So I got only one day, i am working on my efficiency and try to put myself in place where I can make some quantifiable amount of progress. But yeah happy to here that weekends are the way to assess and do new things.
