I signed up to watch it. It just wasn't the same as the good old show I used to watch, so I unsubscribed.
I flipped through page after page after page of their other content offerings and not a single other thing looked remotely interesting to me. I tried watching a couple just because, and I got bored fast.
They failed because their content was terrible, they just aren't admitting it.
My problem with all of this is that it’s so easy to do it right, there should be no excuse for all these places to be doing it so wrong.
Washington State has perfected mail in voting, and has done it for over a decade. Just do what they do.
My state opens voting locations and makes it easy to get an absentee ballot and drop it off, no lines, no problems.
Locations with these problems should be embarrassed for not simply looking to locations that do it right, and then copying what they do.
Okay.... I assume you're not going to talk about this because then you'll have so much competition you won't be able to pay the bills anymore, but do you have any generalized background information about this?
We don’t live in a world that can break free of these atrocities.
"What becomes less fun is the after-building part of running the business."
So many of us want to turn our hobbies into side-hustles, or even full companies. But once the "new" feeling wears off, or we finish building the product, it's just business. It's ALL business.
When your hobby becomes a job, a problem, a customer support problem day in and day out, the fun is gone.
I had games in the app stores. I started an escape room business. I tried to make what I love my job, and that all turned out to be "not fun" anymore.
So, now I'm trying to focus on game making, escape room building, etc, as a side project that I can share with friends and others for free and then just shut it down if it's not fun. I'll keep developing websites and being bored when I need to make money.
Seriously. Please don't instantly down-vote. I think a serious conversation needs to be had around this topic. If you don't agree, I'd love to hear a thought-out answer as to why such a silly name is supposed to be taken seriously.
When you get outside the geek bubble, the name is SO important.
I honestly believe the name is killing DDG's ability to grow. That, and not having a private email solution. But I don't want to tell someone I'm @ duckduckgo either so...
For example, I tried to get my parents to try DuckDuckGo and they giggled, stumbled with the name, and then said they'd stick with Google.
I know people giggled at Google when it started too, but it was so easy to start letting "goooogle" roll off the tongue. PLUS it became a VERB! I do not think duckduckgo has that ability.
Unfortunately "uck" is NOT a friendly, comfortable sound. It sounds like a profanity. If feels angry or sinister.
But "oogle" is comforting, fuzzy, and fun to say.
This may sound silly, but I think it's a very real problem DDG has and they should address it so we can move from G to DDG.
I found this to make it SO MUCH MORE CONFUSING than just explaining how HTTPS works using words like Computer, Browser, Certificate.
My brain could not wrap around the concept of a ComPUGtor or whatever.
But I'm sure this works for some people - just think the site should have a "lose the comics" format.
I can technically go to these other places and work again, just like I used to, because the area I live in believes this is all a hoax, but I'm just not comfortable, and I don't want to wear a mask all day, and people just aren't the same right now - so I'm a little nervous about being around strangers all day and want to avoid uncomfortable or awkward situations.
Look at Jim Carrey and George W Bush for example. They're pretty much set with money, and now they can paint their hearts out.
And then your 4G LTE won't be fast enough.
This pricing technique is just to make someone look.
So, if this is unethical, so is a brightly lit sign, or a couple well-placed adjectives in a sales pitch.
So, no. I do NOT just work a half-day, I prioritize, I multi-task, and it's very difficult to maintain this lifestyle.
But I totally understand how if you applied this saying to EVERYTHING then it wouldn't make sense, or be seen as "narrow minded" I suppose.
I mean, fishing is pretty damn easy, but every trip I take is worth taking for the peace of mind.
I created a home-based program (week to week) where we learned everything I could find that would normally be in a regular pre-school curriculum.
We worked for 3 hours every morning "studying", and he was 4. I made it fun. I made it productive. We took breaks. We had snacks. We had recess. It worked.
By the end of the summer, he was reading and more prepared for Kindergarten than any of the kids in his class.
Yes. If parents stop complaining, and get down to work, and make this fun for their kids, and have a positive attitude, even the youngest students can learn from home.
Now days we even have Zoom options, so we WILL be able to get kids eye to eye with teachers, friends, other students. I would have loved that 8 years ago.
