doublepg23··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
I don't believe class struggle is the driving force of history.
doublepg23··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
I guess my brain has been cooked by internet libertarianism but what's the basis of a C&D for proxying a website?

Is the legal basis just copyright of the contents?

doublepg23··on Run OpenBSD on DigitalOcean for $4/month
+1 for obsd.ams , great VPS!
doublepg23··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra for a big leap in performance and AI compute
Yeah, if you're transcoding for clients a lot I'd just spend the cash on upgrading the clients to support HEVC at minimum.
doublepg23··on Bomb fishing is wreaking havoc on Indonesia's coral reefs

doublepg23··on Nostr is an inclusive communication commons
Nostr is cute but I feel it runs into xkcd 191.

To paraphrase:

> If you Used Nostr your communication would be completely uncensored and decentralized.

> Yeah, but it would all be with the kind of people who use Nostr.

As of now it’s filled with BTC-maxis / crypto bros that mainly talk about how great Nostr and Bitcoin are … and not much else. I suppose there’s plenty of tasteless AI slop and gross adult scams if that suits your palate.

doublepg23··on Fixing a bricked Framework laptop
Indeed, multiple civil wars have been fought since the Lenovo acquisition.
doublepg23··on Fixing a bricked Framework laptop
Not a hardware engineer so feel free to fact-check all of this.

My understanding is Coreboot is a minimum-viable firmware implementation to get your hardware initialized ... and not much else.

Once Coreboot is ready you then use "Payloads".

Payloads can be as varied as booting into Linux directly, GRUB directly, or a whole UEFI/BIOS implementation.

SeaBIOS is a whole FOSS BIOS implementation (commonly used for emulators like QEMU) and is somewhat tractable according to my prior research (~50k lines of C).

My comment about CPU support is due to modern systems using UEFI - the payload for that is TianoCore EDK2. It's quite large (900k+ lines) and while it has much more eyes on it, if minimalism is what you're looking for I doubt it would qualify.

That leaves you with systems from before ~2013 or so - assuming you can even flash Coreboot to them, which only supports a handful of systems.

I suppose you could just jump into Linux though. Perhaps it's silly to do anything else.

doublepg23··on Fixing a bricked Framework laptop
> nobody really seems to talk about how repairable enterprise laptops are

Thinkpads have been a meme since the early 2010s.

It's funny to bring up the T480/s as positive example because I remember people complaining about anything past ~xx20 series.

> caught everyone's attention with the fun DIY repair angle

Framework is a reaction to the cult following a lot of the business laptops had. When people are spending $$ to retrofit modern mainboards to vintage Thinkpad chassis you know there's enthusiast money to be made there.

doublepg23··on Fixing a bricked Framework laptop
SeaBIOS on a Coreboot laptop is pretty minimal. Paltry CPU speeds on anything that supports it nowadays, but fun for a beater system.

doublepg23··on Single log line is 49KB+ (ext4) / 110KB+ (btrfs) of systemd-journald disk writes
The two I most often see in Ubuntu's dmesg are:

audit - appears to be some sort of AppArmor logging?

br[] - bridge interface docker uses consistently rebuilds itself? May be related to docker compose networking.

I actually have quite a bit in the freezer, I'll have to incorporate that next!

> Decent sauerkraut

Are you aware where you find that in the US?

> Fun fact, it gets gradually better with each reheating

That was a very common theme when researching. I froze my leftovers for the winter!

doublepg23··on Bigos (Polish Hunter's Stew) Recipe Builder
There is a quite a lot of Polish influence in Pittsburgh.

Pierogi are very common here (the best is always "however my [grand]mother made them") but I'm not familiar with the rest!

Sounds like I'll have plenty of ideas for the winter :)

doublepg23··on Bigos (Polish Hunter's Stew) Recipe Builder
I had discovered this on Reddit and then made it the following night.

My wife was not pleased by the smells, as you say.

I think it'd be quite nice in the winter :)

doublepg23··on How to Increase OpenBSDs Resilience to Power Outages
> they consider ZFS "non–free" on par with the GPL

Why isn't it? The CDDL is basically the MPL, which in-turn is basically the LGPL.

The jihad against the GPL by FreeBSD and conveniently ignoring the CDDL being weak-copyleft was always ironic to me.

> and the devs probably haven't had one either

solene@ left and stated the filesystem as a supporting reason:

doublepg23··on YT Bans ASMR Artists, Accusing Them of Making 'Sexually Gratifying' Content
I feel like the discussion around this topic is a bit muddled.

I see a number of questions:

1.) Are the creators producing explicit content, on or off, YouTube?

It doesn't seem that there's many false-positives in this ban wave. The bulk of creators were definitely linking NSFW content externally and some had very suggestive videos on YouTube to begin with.

So if they are and got banned, I suppose that's not surprising. That leads to a second question though.

2.) Should they be banned for this -especially if it is off YouTube?

I feel like that's really the heart of the matter, is using YouTube as a pipeline to NSFW content something that should be policed? YouTube sure seems to think so. I guess it's "Twitch Bathtub Streams 2.0"?

Ticks are pretty bad nearby in WPA, I've taken antibiotics prophylactically for them.

https://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com

I've been listening to the network for decades now and directly credit my IT career to the people who've been platformed on the various shows over the years. Lots of great content.

doublepg23··on Substack writers, you need a website
I follow a very prolific open-source/FOSS podcasting network.

All of their infrastructure from the very bottom to the very top is FOSS - except their membership program. It links to a third-party which processes payments compliantly.

They've attempted a pivot to funding the network via BTC/Lightning but clearly that's polarizing to a lot of people even though it better aligns with their philosophy.

doublepg23··on Substack writers, you need a website
I've always understood platforms like Substack or Patreon to really be a solution to the payment processing problem first and foremost.
doublepg23··on Why Sony can't bring back its classic Walkman models

doublepg23··on Why Sony can't bring back its classic Walkman models
I had this discussion with my friend before and it really doesn't take long until you really are screwed in an apocalypse scenario.

We could barely agree on the probable scenarios - "dollar collapse" is bad enough without even getting into "aerosol transmissible Ebola" or the like.
