dosisking··on How to Make a Nintendo 64 Game in 2026
> And ? Are you upset that Google/Microsoft/Oracle sells their tech to the military?

Yes

> Xbox controller is used on nuclear subs too.

I have never played an Xbox, nor do I have any interest in doing so. There is nothing interesting about the Xbox.

dosisking··on Born Against, or why hobby programming communities are against LLM usage
The difference is probably that you are not that good at programming, and that the LLMs are better than you.

> Agents are effectively a full McDonalds kitchen, yes.

You just insulted everybody that works at McDonalds.

dosisking··on Born Against, or why hobby programming communities are against LLM usage
LLMs are more like having someone else microwave something for you, rather than having someone else (who knows what they are doing) cook for you.

> Is he forcing people to login to Instagram or Facebook?

Are you referring to the Facebook pixel?

> Like telling a foodie, "Good news! I built a robot to eat your food for you."

Also like building a robot to cook food for you. Sure, it's fine for mass produced meals, but it won't replace a top-notch chef.

I put the blame on AI and data centers. The Powers That Be want the AI surveillance state. Funny how they don't care about the Climate Change agenda anymore, now that they have AI.

I use "Queen to queen's level 3" and then wait for the appropriate response.

> but I feel it's a far way from our typical AI/LLM surge

I think they are about the same.

Both work about as well as autocorrect

dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
> Would they want to?

The point is that they cannot, they do not have the technical skills to do so, whether they want to or not.

dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
In a technical sense. Do the remaining NeXT employees still at Apple have the technical skills to create Mac OS X and Cocoa?
dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
He left after the Apple acquisition in 1999, then came back around 2009. During the time he was gone was when Apple did their best work (Snow Leopard and iPhone).
dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
The Objective C at StepStone was completely different than the one at NeXT. It was very primitive. Steve Naroff did pretty much all of the heavy lifting, and turned Objective C into a language that could be used to create NeXTStep, and then OS X, and eventually iPhone.
dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
Forcing Swift instead of Objective C caused the good programmers to leave, and attracted the mediocre developers
dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
Since macOS and iOS would not exist without Objective-C, the answer is No, it was not a failure.

> Why should I need to do any testing ? I'm just going to keep on not believing you until you back up your claims.

And why should he care what you think, because you have already made up your mind and don't care at all about facts or the truth.

dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
So you think that they would be able to build MacOS X and Cocoa today if they didn't already exist?
dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
> Despite all the trends, I still really like HTML for structure, CSS for styling, and JavaScript for logic.

I guess I'm even older, because I prefer HTML4, without CSS. And I like using tables for layout instead of divs.

I always hated CSS.

dosisking··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
> Could Apple build MacOS X and Cocoa today if they didn't already exist?

Apple got rid of all the NeXT people long ago, with Tim Cook stabbing Scott Forstall in the back, so the answer is No.

I guess you are not aware that it is the Japanese corporations and not the BOJ that hold the US bonds

dosisking··on AI financial advice is surprisingly good, especially if you ask right questions
"The majority is always wrong", friend.
dosisking··on AI financial advice is surprisingly good, especially if you ask right questions
And your dismissive comment is a near perfect encapsulation of why "the majority is always wrong."

> I'm curious where the safe harbors were during the Great Depression. I've asked before and have not received an answer.

The people who were in cash bought land for pennies on the dollar and made a fortune.

dosisking··on AI financial advice is surprisingly good, especially if you ask right questions
The main lesson from trading markets is that "The majority is always wrong". That is how you get the big moves.
dosisking··on Show HN: What should the GUI for AI agents look like?
I think the GUI for AI agents should simply be a slot machine. Pull the handle.

dosisking··on Becoming a Research Engineer at a Big LLM Lab
What I mean to say is that AI encompasses a lot more than just LLM's, and that LLM's in general are a dead-end technology. People think that LLM's are going to keep getting better, but I doubt that they will, they have probably already peaked.

In general I consider neural networks to be a dead-end. But they are still considered to be under the AI umbrella.

The fact that they hired the guy who wrote the article, confirms to me that there is no substance behind LLM technology. It is a waste of time and energy.

dosisking··on Systemd Linger
Well, in my experience, systemd has much worse documentation, is very inconsistent (or you could say it is constistantly brain-dead), and extremely unreliable and unpredictable, since it often hangs when shutting down and rebooting.
