dordoka··on Mini projects built with VanillaJS. No frameworks or libraries
Not sure why you are being downvoted. Really interesting project, thousands of stars in gh, nice documentation... Thanks for sharing!
dordoka··on Thank HN: My SaaS paid my rent this month
I never said that had to be downvoted or upvoted. I was just advising him/her to create his own Show HN post to follow this site's rules first, and to maybe get real feedback about the site.

Regarding "copyright abuse", it depends on multiple factors IMHO, but that was not the point of my comment at all.

dordoka··on Options for Enhancing Video of a Burglary?
It will probably not be considered tampering, but at the same time, it will probably not be accepted as a proof officially.
dordoka··on Thank HN: My SaaS paid my rent this month
Honest suggestion: you should submit your own Show HN post for that. I reckon you are being downvoted for "hijacking" another post, not based on the merits of your project.
dordoka··on Encoding your WiFi access point password into a QR code
Exactly.
dordoka··on Gitlab was down
Spot on. The status page confirms it's a bad firewall configuration
dordoka··on uBlock Origin: Address first-party tracker blocking
I agree with your first two sentences, not the last one though. I didn't even mention ads in my comment :)
dordoka··on Apple has locked me out of my developer account
What law did he break exactly?
dordoka··on uBlock Origin: Address first-party tracker blocking
It might be free as in gratis (free beer), but it's not free at all. Your behaviour, your profile, your data: you are the one giving that away in exchange. That data of yours is valuable.
dordoka··on An Illustrated Guide to OAuth and OpenID Connect
I hope to find constructive criticism, ie. it's terrible because of this and that and I would improve it like this and that.
dordoka··on An Inside Look at Microsoft’s Newest Flight Simulator
Awesome. Looks promising!
dordoka··on Alan Turing to feature on new £50 note
I use the 50 EUR note in Spain quite often (every week) without any problem whatsoever. Obviously if you are gonna pay a 1.30 EUR coffee with a 50 EUR note you might be asked if you have a lower one...

That problems happen if you try to use the 100EUR one and obove.

Bosque is spanish for "forest" (not necesarily along a river).

dordoka··on Hackintosh-KVM Guide: High Sierra+ Using QEMU's I440fx Chipset
I can confirm that the GTX780 works. You will need to install the nvidia web drivers after macOS installation. Tried even using it with tensorflow.

Regarding your first question: I have tried virtualized and bare metal macOS (hackintosh) and I would recommend not virtualizing it if it's gonna be your primary workstation. Currently my main workstation is a hackintosh after trying first using it in a VM.

Virtualizing works, but under a VM there are several minor annoyances here and there that might drive you crazy (most of them are UI related, some app crashes, etc.). It would be perfect for example for a xcode build server. thought. YMMV!

dordoka··on MLab is being acquired by MongoDB
Yeah sorry, I was pointing out that the original title was different than the posted one (due to the HN guideline as explained by ibotos). Also it included the name of the acquired company.
dordoka··on MLab is being acquired by MongoDB
Original title is "mLab is becoming a part of MongoDB, Inc."
dordoka··on Architecture of Nautilus, the new Dropbox search engine
Didn't know about the fork. Thanks for the suggestion, will check it out.

OwnCloud supports Linux [1]. If you want a SaaS version, they have several hosting partners [2].

dordoka··on Chrome 69 will keep Google Cookies when you tell it to delete all cookies
I reckon it´s not only money that they give value. Other intangibles might apply (as all family related issues).

I agree that engineers might also have something to say, but we don´t actually have a clue if some of them actually expressed they concerns for this change, unless you have some insight from inside the company that you may not be able to share.

Even if some of them left as you suggest, I´m pretty sure Google wouldn´t have any problem to find some other engineers that would happily implement anything without questions.

Nevertheless, I agree that concerns should be raised by everyone in the org, but the only ones that might lead to an actual change is stock holders/board of directors.

dordoka··on Hi-Vision Laserdisc – HD in ‘93 [video]
I cannot recommend Techmoan's videos enough. He usually reviews past video and audio formats, some of them are really niche products. Really interesting!
dordoka··on The Repeal of Net Neutrality Is Official
There are enough differences between HTTPS and VPN protocols to be able to distinguish them using DPI. IDS/IPS vendors even show this as a feature usually.
dordoka··on Tell HN: Goo.gl (Google link Shortener) is shutting down
Can confirm that SMSs are still a thing in enterprise. Several of my clients use SMS a lot. Given the character limits, they tend to prefer short links so they can give more info in the actual text. We've just migrated from goo.gl to bit.ly on two of them.
dordoka··on A Proposal for Package Versioning in Go
Interesting idea. I usually code with languages that have lib packaging and depencency management systems. Recently I have went back to code on linux C and I quite miss them now. We have pushed the version management to the dependency or build management tools, but it would be awesome to be able to add that meta in code and those tools could also automate the tasks. BTW, wouldn't it be import foo.bar in both? It would be more logical to keep the name of the lib, import it twice, but with different version metadata.

Thanks for the link as well! I would love to see that experimented somewhere and see if it works.

dordoka··on A Proposal for Package Versioning in Go
He is not a deity, of course, he's "just" the one that invented REST. I guess what you mean is that he's not right about everything he says.

Well, what he exactly says is that URLs should not include versioning, because URLs are the interfaces names and REST estates that interface names should not be versioned, as that implies a breaking change in the API. It's just the wrong place for versioning in the REST way.

But he is not against versioning, as you say, you can use the Accept header. You could also use a custom header if you might, but the canonical way would be the Accept header.

dordoka··on JDK 10: General Availability
Makes sense, thanks a lot for the insight. I've seen some comments on the JDK 10 issues pushing for a backport to JDK 8 and 9, let's hope they are eventually backported!
dordoka··on JDK 10: General Availability
Some support for these was also introduced in JDK 8u131 back in April 2017 [0]. Do you know if these issues are the same ones fixed in JDK 8 or maybe they have now been backported to JDK 8 and 9?

Thanks!
