dontdieych··on Brown M&Ms, or Why No One Reads the Manual

dontdieych··on Brown M&Ms, or Why No One Reads the Manual
Rarely. For old hardware. Cross cable. One end is B other end is A
dontdieych··on Brown M&Ms, or Why No One Reads the Manual
I'm cable guy. If you are working on data center, there is chance we already met.

I've crimped so many RJ45. Can't count.

Before CAT6 it was simple. After CAT6, all vendors starting produce their own.

This is my best manual all time. I love Penduit manual.

dontdieych··on Ask HN: You favorite (not so popular) quote?
"There is 10 men. Then there is 11 common sense." don't remember who said :)

It is translated from my language. So it may sound weird to native speaker.

dontdieych··on Ask HN: I just won $150k. What do I do?
Ignore about how to bet/spend about that money. Hold it till to 6? month or more.
dontdieych··on Ask HN: I just won $150k. What do I do?
Don't do anything.

Don't touch it until you sure about what should do with that money.

Do not bet or spend money at you don't know well.

Just hold it.

dontdieych··on Terminal tools that make my life easier
Upvote for fzf, ripgrep, fd, bat.

- shell history search with fzf(ctrl + r) is most productive use case in addition to shell auto suggestion(fish shell).

dontdieych··on Ask HN: Affordable K8s for individuals?
> But due to a missing vswitch in this vlan it was for me at least kinda impossible to create a HA Cluster.

I coudn't understand this part as total noob, but k3s was most fast and light resoure usage than microk8s, kind, minikube.

dontdieych··on Customizing Your Shell
you dont need to learn fish syntax for interactive use. basics are almost same.

when you met some sh code on random internet,

  - sh(bash) -c "..."
  - type bash enter then paste it
  - save to file + shebang

yakuake +1

Also `tdrop` can do this for any term. But one missing feature is 'hide on focus lost'.

So still stick with yakuake.

Educational.
dontdieych··on Ask HN: Why do we need app stores?
User : little bit of security

Store : Money

dontdieych··on Jitsi Meet: An open source alternative to Zoom
Arch linux Firefox Nightly 76

Works fine though not tested mic(muted on system).

dontdieych··on GreenTunnel: anti-censorship utility designed to bypass deep packet inspection
It's working very well against South Korea, KT(ISP)
dontdieych··on Maybe: run a command, see what it does to your files without actually doing it
I've used [mbox][0], [firejail][1] for this case.

    mbox COMMAND
run COMMAND and shows you what files changed. Then you can select drop or commit those files.

    $ mbox mktemp
    /tmp/tmp.cfJElOQmNK
    Sandbox Root:
    > /tmp/sandbox-30749
    > F: /tmp/sandbox-30749/tmp/tmp.cfJElOQmNK
    F:/tmp/tmp.cfJElOQmNK
    [C]ommit all, [c]ommit, [i]gnore, [d]iff, [l]ist tree, [q]uit ?> q
    $

    firejail --private=/path/to/home-for-command COMMAND
does similar things. But it only sandbox $HOME. Also does not show what is changed by defult.

dontdieych··on Who helps your Linux distribution run smoothly? Thank a packager today

dontdieych··on REPL: To JSON what Excel is to CSV
Yes, It can.
dontdieych··on The C10K problem
Mostly I'm fine with default css but only 100% width. This could be helpful in many old article like this. Thanks
dontdieych··on The C10K problem
If you decide to publish long serious article to web, please consider use css for better readability. Don't rely on browser default css too much. They are very busy to make javascript fast. Especially, please don't use 100% width. Sure, our displays have far more width than height. But that width is good for movie, not text. Put any books on your monitor. Then reduce text line width.

TW;DR: Too Wide, Didn't Read.

dontdieych··on Losing graciously
Yes, almost same opinion. I've got feeling about unity people are really trying to step forward linux desktop UI. Not just copy and paste then edit something.

- remove cascade style start menu. - quick search interface for application, files. - well organized keyboard shortcuts and inline shortcut help - make free vertical space as possible as - it's simple. users only need to understand windows key, left launcher.

Yes, It was buggy and slow at the first time. Maybe Canonical had pushed so much earlier. But it's now working well and really usable.

dontdieych··on Losing graciously
Ubuntu's target audience are actually who think that command harder. Seriously.
dontdieych··on Losing graciously
Yes, really.
dontdieych··on A Vim Tutorial and Primer
I also recommend capslock as both ctrl and esc. With combination of other keys, It works as ctrl. Otherwise it's just esc.

In linux, X11, xcape does it.
