donniezazen··on CLion, the new C/C++ IDE from JetBrains

    rpm -ivh jdk-<version>-linux-x64.rpm

Was that hard?
donniezazen··on A Call for a Low-Carb Diet
Is drinking milk good or bad for someone looking to lose fat and gain more lean muscle mass?
donniezazen··on My year with a distraction-free iPhone
You are right comments bring out the worse in you.
donniezazen··on Kato.im Launches Kato Teams, a Free Chat Platform for Businesses
Cool it would be nice to be able to connect your own XMPP server.
donniezazen··on Kato.im Launches Kato Teams, a Free Chat Platform for Businesses
Generally speaking it never ceases to amaze me how many of these chat platforms are but often they tend not to be compatible to XMPP protocol.
donniezazen··on Wayland in Gnome: two progress reports
Again this is very subjective. I have never had to mess with xorg. Things like Nvidia Optimus are obviously a tipping point of the problem.
donniezazen··on The state of Android updates: Who’s fast, who’s slow, and why
A lot of folks don't know because they don't want to know. Again, I am not sure who to blame here. People might not be even aware of what an upgrade is or what Android is in itself.

I stick with all Nexus devices. I get upgrades 2 weeks after the release announcement. I don't think Android is fragmented by design but by user choice.

donniezazen··on Show HN: C/C++ Development Environment for Emacs
@tuhdo Are you using Emacs in terminal? Do you prefer it use the GUI version?
donniezazen··on The state of Android updates: Who’s fast, who’s slow, and why
Well if someone willingly buys from a vendor that will never upgrade their OS who is at fault here.
donniezazen··on Announcing Calibre 2.0
Wow he doesn't have to try to be infamous.
donniezazen··on Spaced Repetition is Awesome
I have used Anki. I really wish they had paid high quality decks to study.
donniezazen··on Fiverr Raises $30M for Online Services Marketplace
I don't mind bad service. What I mind is someone flagging my product because the service I used to get graphics sold me someone else's intellectual property.
donniezazen··on Google, it's time – We want Scala for Android
1. Most of the threads like this are going to turn into I like this language so let's rewrite Android in that.

2. Even if Google changes the primary development languages of Android where do you go to ask developers to port their Java libraries, technical bloggers to update their blogs with Scala code or change thousands of questions on SO.

Documentation/Q&A created around Java/Android is equally important.

donniezazen··on Imgur, please don't be the next TinyPic or ImageShack
MediaCrush is indeed nice. I didn't know about it. Imgur can be painstakingly slow. A fast and right to the point image uploading service is quite refreshing.

I have a few questions.

1. Do you have accounts to store pics?

2. It would be nice if after uploading pictures the page would show all possible links like embed and share.

3. Do you plan to implement something like delete in 30 days?

Thanks.

donniezazen··on Fiverr Raises $30M for Online Services Marketplace
Are you going to be fine if someone steals an icon off internet and charges you $5 for it?
donniezazen··on Fiverr Raises $30M for Online Services Marketplace
But how can you justify stealing.
donniezazen··on Fiverr Raises $30M for Online Services Marketplace
I have such a bad experience with Fiverr when it comes to purchasing Android icons. They usually return with either poor quality icons or literally stolen icons from internet.
donniezazen··on Remote code execution on Android devices
That is what I am talking about. I downloaded a silly entertainment app. It has no need to my browser history, my geolocation and all the apps I have installed on my phone. But it still requires those permission to show me ads.
donniezazen··on Python Practice Book
hmm

Python2 - http://pymbook.readthedocs.org/en/latest/

Python3 - http://pymbook.readthedocs.org/en/py3/

donniezazen··on Remote code execution on Android devices
Remote code execution is least of the worries on Android. Today I downloaded an app and I read their privacy policy. They will read my browser , all the packages installed on my phone and my precise geolocation. Why did they need those permission just to show you ads.

People don't really read terms and conditions. You can get pretty much any information from users because they reading is inconvenient.

donniezazen··on TypWrittr – Inspirational, Minimalistic, Distraction-free Text editor
I was thinking aren't all text-editors are minimalistic and distraction free. I use KWrite and Emacs. Emacs is awesome for text-editing. There is nothing in my Emacs expect an empty space to write.
donniezazen··on Show HN: Use email subject lines to save personal stats and chart them
Do you have to make sure that email body is empty?
donniezazen··on Do Not Use Amazon Linux
Sun Java is no longer available on Ubuntu from the official repository as a part of ubuntu-restricted-extra. Installing Oracle Java on any distribution would be same amount of work. Here are my notes[1] on how to install Oracle Java on Fedora 20.

I find it a little weird that you would be using a bittorrent client on an enterprise Linux solution. On Fedora, you just have to do yum install transmission-qt to install Transmission Qt version.

donniezazen··on Dan Ariely’s Timeful App Helps You Better Apply Your Time

If you believe the scientific literature, says the Duke
behavioral economics professor and popular author Dan
Ariely, we humans have about two hours of peak cognitive
capacity, generally first thing in the morning after
    we’ve fully woken up.
That settles it. 2 Hours every morning working only on the next big project thinking, designing, writing, and coding.
donniezazen··on Tox: A simple, distributed, free, secure Skype replacement. Now alpha with A/V
Do you sync messages across various clients? So that I can start chatting on one and move to second or third client.
donniezazen··on Eloquent JavaScript, Second Edition
I want to learn decent amount of HTML/CSS/JS to beautify and improve the usability of my webpage. What would be a good source to learn these things?
donniezazen··on Why the Vivaldi tablet never came to market
I think KDE has a long way to go before I should jump into mobile market. There are problems in both technological level and philosophical level. Technologically, developers need a great platform, sound APIs and good design guidelines along with specialized tool to make it happen. On a philosophical level, it would be a nightmare to use KDE on tablets. KDE is nowhere polished or simple for touch screen. Grossly put KDE is an orgy of settings. Open does not mean that you can put any crap on user's plate. And one ring to rule them all principle is that the most important factor is monetization. If developer's are not making money no development will happen.
donniezazen··on Acrobat Reader for Linux removed
That is nice for some users but again I feel like software including installation should be as easy as possible. We have actually lived in that era where we had to read documentation, install by compiling, and configure with dotfiles. I have had enough of it. I am happy with the basic functionality - read/fill form/annotate - that Okular provides in a dead simple interface and it comes with all format support pre-installed on all distributions that I have used. That's a win-win.
donniezazen··on Building an API in 60 seconds, without any server setup
What are you options if a site/service doesn't provide an API? I am looking into creating a third-party Android app for https://askbot.com/ which is an open-sourced (GPLv3) version of StackExchange-like website. Askbot has a limited read-only API. It is written in Python and I am not sure how much work it would be to write APIs for it.
donniezazen··on Acrobat Reader for Linux removed
I had been using it long before I started using KDE. There aren't many PDF Viewers that could do annotations and handle 1000 page PDFs. Evince which is a premier Gnome PDF application is pretty basic.
