donkey_brains··on The map that keeps Burning Man honest
That’s a narrow definition of a leader. Seems to me that a leader can be someone who others _choose_ to follow.
donkey_brains··on A network smuggling Starlink tech into Iran to beat internet blackout
The point being that we need to not incriminate these people.
donkey_brains··on Trump fires NSF's oversight board
Eh, they’re probably too busy molesting their younger siblings to take notice or offense.
donkey_brains··on Tell HN: An app is silently installing itself on my iPhone every day
But why this one specific app and no others?
donkey_brains··on Caffeine, cocaine, and painkillers detected in sharks from The Bahamas
Unlike plastic gloves, researchers don’t typically bring these substances into the lab.
donkey_brains··on Sam Altman's home targeted in second attack
I think you have to be at least remotely a sympathetic figure to be a martyr
donkey_brains··on Cyberattack on vehicle breathalyzer company leaves drivers stranded in the US
Dunno where the parent comment was referring to, but different countries have different standards. In Colombia the bus transit stations all have breathalyzer stations and the drivers have to pass the breathalyzer before starting their shifts. It was pretty wild to see as an outsider but completely unremarkable to everyone else.
donkey_brains··on Kona EV Hacking
Elsewhere in the site he publishes her name and address.
donkey_brains··on Peter Thiel's Antichrist Lectures
“Who was the Antichrist? When would he arrive? What would he preach? What kind of SaaS offerings will he want to invest in?”
donkey_brains··on See the oldest fossilized 'butthole' imprint
Clickbait title…it’s just a cloaca
donkey_brains··on Fentanyl makeover: Core structural redesign could lead to safer pain medications
Hey, let’s not discount the opinion of some internet guy just because of the lived experience of the rest of humanity throughout history. /s
donkey_brains··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
Mass surveillance is a relatively recent development. Dense urban civilizations are not. And yet their denizens have not historically devolved into a “nasty, brutish, and short” existence. In fact, cities have been centers of culture and learning throughout history. How does this square with your theory?
donkey_brains··on 15 years later, Microsoft morged my diagram
No “for” loop in the example purportedly showing an iterative approach.

Not mentioning the pain of debugging the streaming solution is also a little disingenuous.

donkey_brains··on Rathbun's Operator
It’s “row”. The expression is “a tough road to row”. This refers to the fact that rowboats are notoriously difficult to operate on dry land.
donkey_brains··on Rathbun's Operator
“If this “experiment” personally harmed you, I apologize.”

Real apologies don’t come with disclaimers!

donkey_brains··on The "Crown of Nobles" Noble Gas Tube Display (2024)
It’s nice to see this guy getting some attention for a different reason. Maybe something good will come out of this whole debacle.
donkey_brains··on Mimes directing traffic in Bogotá had surprisingly loud impacts (2025)
Too true. I remember when I visited it took me a while to get used to this. I would ask my friend questions like “what happens if I fall off this campero/get bitten by one of these street dogs/clock somebody in the head playing rana/twist my ankle on this busted-out sidewalk? Who has the liability here?” and he would say “we don’t really have that here man”. Honestly it was a great time.
donkey_brains··on Data centers in space makes no sense
Read the whole sentence. He’s talking about the cost to make solar panels that can be deployed in space, not the efficacy of said panels.
donkey_brains··on The €10 Mirror: Why Enterprise Security Looks Like a Kid's Toy
TFA was pretty clear that this is an example which illustrates common issues in enterprise security. It even provides a handy table to map the similar patterns between this toy and a network appliance. No one’s arguing for stronger security in children’s toys, here.
donkey_brains··on Please don't say mean things about the AI I just invested a billion dollars in
Today a manager at my work asked all his teams including mine “please write up a report on how many engineers from your teams we could replace with AI”.

Surprisingly, the answer he got was “none, because that’s not how AI works”.

Guess we’ll see if that registers…

donkey_brains··on Please don't say mean things about the AI I just invested a billion dollars in
Woosh
donkey_brains··on Yes, It's Fascism
Ah yes, the “no true fascism” fallacy. Thanks for posting your half-thought out defense of the party that is murdering citizens in the street! I’m sure they appreciate your attempts to keep their jackboots shiny.
donkey_brains··on Trump administration claims offshore wind poses a threat. But it won't say how.
Many important people have told me that the wind they produce can blow off a man’s toupee.

Reposting since this seems to mysteriously keep getting flagged. I think it’s relevant to a tech news discussion site.

donkey_brains··on Astronomers now say the moon is eating up molecules from Earth's atmosphere
The moon is getting bolder all the time. Coming out during the day, changing size when it’s behind buildings, and now stealing the very air we breathe. Get lost, you stupid moon. We’ve walked on you! We know your secrets, you big dumb hunk of rock!
donkey_brains··on Ozempic is changing the foods Americans buy
> will power is an illusion.

Lol, what? No one has ever abstained from anything, huh? No one ever quits drugs or alcohol, and no one was ever able to control their weight before this drug? Well, guess that absolves us of all personal responsibility then!

donkey_brains··on US will ban Wall Street investors from buying single-family homes
The point is that leaving off “Trump says” makes it sound like something that will actually happen.
