dolmen··on Hackers had a live feed of every ID verification company scanned for over a year
The only times I had to provide a scan of my passport was to cross a border:

    - get a VISA to be allowed to cross the border
    - send to the airline for my flight that will cross the border
    - show the real passport at the border
I have another ID for authentication inside my country, which by the way, is not a driving license (which is used only for car driving usage).

Let's start by giving "most humans" the long term safety net (food, lodging) from early age to allow to focus intelligence on high level problems.

Machines aimed at running AGI are provided that, but the money spent there could as well go towards enhancing humans.

dolmen··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
Claude Code: 4mn, 20mn, give up (from my experience today)
dolmen··on .name Termination
.uk.co (mentioned in the blog) isn't .co.uk

That doesn't protect against MITM happening on the first connect.
dolmen··on Restroom Archive
It would be fun to have this connected to other world mapping projects such as Panoramax which is a federated alternative to Google Street View.

dolmen··on Show HN: Laser Graffiti
> Graffiti, fundamentally, is a defacement of public property as a form of artistic self expression.

The "Musée de la mémoire des murs" (museum of walls' memories), previously named "Musée des Grafittis historiques" sees grafittis much beyond your strict definition. https://www.verneuil-en-halatte.fr/musee-de-la-memoire-des-m...

I visited it long ago, but I remember drawings by prisoners on cells walls. Definitely not public property (or not visible by a wide public from public places).

dolmen··on Apple caught off guard by AI demand for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
But this isn't a new use or a significant market share. Running models is both.

One more website that doesn't render the page in Firefox when scrolling the page using the keyboard (arrow keys, PgUp, PgDn).
dolmen··on Tim Cook Sold Out Steve Jobs (2025)
> If the Linux community could [...]

This starts with a wrong assumption. Like if there was a "Linux community" company driven by a CEO.

dolmen··on Hacking IKEA Furniture
Well, because of wide availability, it allows to get a kid room for cheap and with consistent style over time always buying second hand.
dolmen··on Hacking IKEA Furniture
It's still better to go to an AirBnB and get well known IKEA furniture than the cheaper/low quality/bad look things. But photos immediately reveal that.
dolmen··on “I just chose words carefully”
Nowadays LLMs are driven to "choose words carefully" (well, tokens) for watermarking.
dolmen··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
In fact you just need one of the two ends to be able to auto swap RX/TX.
dolmen··on AI Agent Has Root
The article goes beyond and warn about jailing MCP servers independently of the agent itself (which also deserves to be jailed).
dolmen··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
Check the "Débit à l'adresse" alternative map: it shows every home, and so population density.

Subsidizing works up to when most of the area has high cost for few people.
dolmen··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
Bakeries are long gone in small villages which are out of main roads. You better be prepared to have a car to get your bread or to make it at home.
dolmen··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
> Connecting the last meters of fiber is cheap

Check the France map. This is cheap in densely populated areas, like cities. It isn't in mountainous areas with just small groups of houses like in the middle of the country.

dolmen··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
Same in France.

The information is available publicly on the same web site as mentioned in this thread, with even information about the expected network throughput: https://maconnexioninternet.arcep.fr/?lat=46&lng=2.3&zoom=7&...

dolmen··on Training AI to Paint with Code
SVG is image as code. This is basically a DSL with graphics primitives.

It seems to me that teaching a model to directly produce SVG is more helpful than teaching to write JavaScript that produce pixels.

By the way, someone here is benchmarking LLMs on how they draw an SVG of a pelican on a bicycle.

So, when surveyed, they tell they are in the other half than they really are?

dolmen··on Maiao: Gerrit-style code review workflow for GitHub, GitLab, Gitea, others
The repo seems to move from "adevinta" (a well known company in the EU tech) to "runetes". Anyone to tell us the story?
dolmen··on France's tax agency got hacked (in French)
> French employees love to say “No” to anything and everything.

Obviously an overgeneralization.

In general employees in lost and found offices are quite low on the social scale, but still in a position of power regarding people coming to the office. I guess that this behaviour is not so french. In some other countries where corruption is common in public services in relation to low wages, worse things may happen at lost and found.

dolmen··on France's tax agency got hacked (in French)
> t claims that, since some taxes data was compromised, the trust in the national Federated Identity is eroded "as if Facebook Connect was hacked". [... ] Anyway, I think most people won't care.

The taxes services is one of the oldest online government service in France that has existed, with a very wide usage.

As people had already that authentication as an identity provider, it was natural to reuse that authentication (not the password, but 3rd party auth à la OAuth, but a french government standard) to authenticate to government services that went online later.

So if the taxes auth is compromised (so far I haven't seen enough details about the coverage of the leak), that's a real concern.

dolmen··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
> a common history going back to the Romans.

Native Americans are not related to Romans.

Slaves brought by force from Africa neither.

EU:

The social net prevents homelessness.

We don't get broke because of medical bills.

Labor laws prevent being fired without prévenance.

Being fired grants you employment benefits.
