dnpls··on Fats from thin air: Startup makes butter using CO2 and water
"The big challenge is to drive down the price so that products like Savor’s become affordable to the masses – either the same cost as animal fats or less," Gates wrote. "Savor has a good chance of success here, because the key steps of their fat-production process already work in other industries."

So it seems they're onto the price problem already. If they can bring the price down fast enough, maybe there's a chance for this product.

dnpls··on Show HN: I made a drag and drop CSS grid generator
I found 2 bugs: - the width is not responsive, if you resize the browser window the boxes don't resize. - the boxes are shorter than the containers (for me, on Chrome on macOS) so every new row is a bit higher on the grid. On row 5 the boxes are basically positioned one whole row above.
dnpls··on Ask HN: Has anyone been fired for ignoring in-office mandates?
They key is to "soft-ignore", so you're not officially ignoring orders but you're also not following it. If your boss asks, you're not ignoring it. If caught, you apologize and come to the office for a few weeks.
dnpls··on Making USB devices – end to end guide to your first gadget
what about converting existing devices from USB-A to USB-C? I have a bunch of powerbanks lying around that I'd love to keep using but most of my devices now use a USB-C charging cable, would it be a simple case of replacing the ports and re-soldering or is there any extra component I need to add?
dnpls··on AI headphones let wearer listen to a single person in a crowd by looking at them
The article mentions "The team is working to expand the system to earbuds and hearing aids in the future."
dnpls··on A tiny ultrabright laser that can melt steel
Yes, but the average bike thief is looking for an easy steal and will avoid wasting time on a locked bike. Bikes in the Netherlands usually have 2 locks (a wheel lock and an extra chain), so thieves will usually move on from those first. A portable laser might allow a thief to steal even previously safer bikes just because it makes it quicker and silent (I'm assuming both).
