dnnddidiej··on United Airlines 767 returns to Newark after Bluetooth name sparks alert
If they even controlled the name the "joke" could have been done months earlier and meant bomb as in excellent.

Better to scan baggage for the actual, ya know, bombs. Fine people joking about bombs verbally or written sure.

dnnddidiej··on Backpressure is all you need
Can be done on a claude pro. But if you are low on tokens then yeah probably stick to more of a non-thinking copilot type arrangement (which is fine!)
dnnddidiej··on Atherton spent $145K to delay train electrification. The rest of us paid $400M
That sounds too extreme. I like Australia where states (ok much less populated than US states!) have certain building powers esp. to build rail infra but local can manage planning rules pertaining to an area but within a state level framework.
dnnddidiej··on Backpressure is all you need
Oh this is 101. Anyone not doing this? If not do it now!
dnnddidiej··on OpenRouter raises $113M Series B
Dealing with a lot of traffic for a small team isn't hard in itself. If it is easy to parallelise you just need to horizontally scale. And most concerns can be added as sidecars or middleware. Rate limits, auth, etc. Basically this is a kubernetes cluster. For a 3 person startup hard. For 50 pretty managable.
dnnddidiej··on OpenRouter raises $113M Series B
Well yeah if they route most of the worlds tokens easily. What if we get to a point where the 5% is paid by the supplier and they take over more of the infra /routing side that they do. Lots of ways it could be a 10B company.

I make of it they are good at riding hype cycles
dnnddidiej··on What are locusts and what happened to them?
Trigger warning: animated insect crawls on screen.
dnnddidiej··on IXI's autofocusing lenses are almost ready to replace multifocal glasses
How does it compare to multifocal contact lenses?
dnnddidiej··on WH proposes rules giving political appointees final approval on research grants
Boots. Licking boots.
dnnddidiej··on Naphtha shortages in Japan
Oh no not Material Design.

One idea is if they had a monocrome design from say the 50's use that. Or get a true artist to come up with something.

dnnddidiej··on The Last Technical Interview
It is not necessarily bad if people hired cannot make it through. Reasons:

1. Standards got higher. Luckily if you got in early and proved yourself you are OK. But doesn't mean you would pass the current interview.

2. A marathon runner (with rare exceptions) can't run a marathon on a random day. They train for a specific date. Same with interview prep.

dnnddidiej··on The Last Technical Interview
Seems a bit detached from the real world.

If I am doing a 6 month contract which is what he is proposing then yeah I want a great day rate and to earn 12 months salary in those 6.

It basically means I invest in a company that doesn't believe in me and probably wont try to help me succeed.

Also mortgages, car loans, life and health insurance etc. are harder to get on a short contract.

Hiring is broken (maybe) but 6 month paid interviews are not the solution.

dnnddidiej··on Naphtha shortages in Japan
Or makes ROTW more resiliant. I sped up my solar, battery and EV buy because of this for example.

The panels will land in ROTW.

dnnddidiej··on Naphtha shortages in Japan
They had a chance to embrace the black/white medium for somethink striking and attention grabbing but looks like a bad photocopy of the original packaging.
dnnddidiej··on SQLite is all you need for durable workflows
Butchering the Beatles song again.
dnnddidiej··on What Is a Dickover?
Europe is why you have CCPA
dnnddidiej··on What Is a Dickover?
I sort of make an exception for that popup. I.e. I don't mind seeing it. It's the tax to get good free content.

Medium forcing you to log in is too much tho.

dnnddidiej··on Shift will clean homes for free to train future robots
Not everyone has the time or energy to do it. I estimate 10-20 hrs of chores a week for 2 adults 2 kids. Having cleaners is a nice touch when both parents work.
dnnddidiej··on Shift will clean homes for free to train future robots
I feel like a self host will be too expensive for most (like self hosting frontier models at a decent speed)
dnnddidiej··on The dead economy theory
That sounds off intuitively. The lowest earners are the base making higher earner possible both through their labour and consumption.
dnnddidiej··on MCP Is Dead
I think those are solvable problems. E.g. wrap mcp in skill or seperate forked (non context eating) call to smaller model to ask which mcps are applicable. Iet probably does this. Honestly I have not had issues with MCPs where I felt compelled to debug them.

MCPs are very useful when you don't have a CLI or you do but the MCP can handle auth like a proxy to something (e.g. Splunk). Or just for the USB-C analogy she gave.

dnnddidiej··on Evolving Webflow for the Agentic Web
It is open source. Just clone and ignore drama.
dnnddidiej··on Italians and Dutch share the same gestural instinct for teaching
Doubly so with CS in the mix. IMO.
dnnddidiej··on Warm up your MacBook (2019)
Oh my opsec is good but buttsec needs improvement.
dnnddidiej··on Bricks and Minifigs Stole a Man's $200k Lego Collection
This is the much reveered capitalism we love. Atlas cheered!
dnnddidiej··on Bricks and Minifigs Stole a Man's $200k Lego Collection
But it is then a greater fool "investment" unlike stocks.
dnnddidiej··on The Ask
You need socialism. That is not a snark. I am serious. It is getting rarer in the world. Even the "left" is very capitalist.
dnnddidiej··on Warm up your MacBook (2019)
Warming it up. For the eventual electron app it'll be running.
dnnddidiej··on Go: Support for Generic Methods
> Perhaps what you want is a container which adheres to monad laws capable of abstracting exceptions

That is what I meant. Struggling to picture what the other "nonsensical" thing is.
