dmbass··on Jury: Newegg infringes Spangenberg patent, must pay $2.3 million
The United States of America. These cases are in federal courts.
dmbass··on The (JavaScript) Question I Bombed In An Interview With a Y Combinator Startup
Capture the timeoutId in a closure.

  $(document).ready((function() {
    $('input').keypress((function() {
        var timeoutId = null;

        return function() {
            window.clearTimeout(timeoutId);
            timeoutId = window.setTimeout(function() {
                $.ajax({ /* ... * /});
            }, 200);
        };
    })());
  });

  // NB: this solution only works if there is one input.
  // If there are more than one, you need to create a new closure for each one.
dmbass··on The (JavaScript) Question I Bombed In An Interview With a Y Combinator Startup
You want the oninput event, but IE < 10 has horrible support for it. Figuring out when the input value has changed is a lot more complicated than picking one of onkeyup/down/pressed.
dmbass··on Make the web "flat" with this bookmarklet
I really hope this is a commentary on how "flat" design is just an aesthetic. You can make your UI horrible or non-horrible whether you employ "flat" design or not.
dmbass··on The iPod’s Dark UI Pattern
That is an absolutely ludicrous explanation. Nobody is using the iPod app and expecting to get to the store. That short cut is purely there to collect accidental clicks. If I wanted to purchase music, I would have opened the iTunes app.

I have personally hit that button accidentally many times while trying to get back to the albums view and waiting for the animations to finish in exactly the way this article describes. I did not want to go to the iTunes store! I just wanted to pick another album on my phone and now I have to double tap the button and navigate back to the music app.

dmbass··on Show HN: Pix.pe – Easily sharable pixel art
Obviously you are limited in how much data you can encode in with your available Tweet length...

All urls on Twitter are shortened with t.co to 22/23 characters (depending on https) so the url is not a limit.

dmbass··on The Best Part of Grand Theft Auto V is the Stock-Trading Platform
Actually it does mention that.

FTA Throughout the game, you're given opportunities to manipulate the markets. Some missions, for example, require that you kill the CEO of a company. You could, theoretically, buy the stock of that company's competitors and profit when they rise after the killing. And since there's no SEC policing stock trading in Los Santos, you're not going to be busted for insider trading.

dmbass··on Dolphin Emulator and OpenGL drivers - Hall of Fame/Shame
It also supports about 0 "advanced" features that ddwrt/etc. support.
dmbass··on Twitter Tweet Button URL randomly resolves to a .torrent file
That attack vector has nothing to do with Twitter.
dmbass··on Google is changing its logo
All those effects still have a place in a "flat" design. They're just more subtle and you actually have to go look for them instead of being distracted by them. Their main purpose is to create affordance for UI elements.

For example, the new Google has a very subtle gradient from light to dark; so while you say it's "flat" there is actually simulated light being cast from a third dimension. This helps it stand out on (appear on top of) a uniform background.

dmbass··on Espruino -- a JavaScript Arduino
Maybe I'm missing something, but why does Javascript require new hardware? Can you not run whatever software this is running on another µC... say the one on an Arduino board? Obviously the drivers are different but you have to write them for this hardware anyway.
dmbass··on Game On Ladies - A man logs in as his wife's character in a videogame
Do you know that people already pay $60/yr for multiplayer on Xbox Live (and PS+ on PS4)? What makes you think another $100 will change the situation?
dmbass··on A Google Reader Replacement written in Haskell and Ur
Check out Newsblur's story view (or text view if you don't want the site's hideous styling).
dmbass··on Google Reader Apocalypse Extremely Fucking Nigh
Have you heard of Newsblur? Sounds exactly like what you're describing.

Also, cheers for not including a link to your Kickstarter.

dmbass··on How To Win At Email
Why not just unsubscribe from all these useless newsletters?
dmbass··on LinkedIn: The Creepiest Social Network
What exactly makes you think Google doesn't have this feature?
dmbass··on LinkedIn: The Creepiest Social Network
I always assumed the suggestions were from other people importing their Twitters and email contacts. So if person A emails me and then imports their emails, Linkedin can suggest to both of us that we might know each other, increasing the chance of creating a connection (and creepy-ness factor for me).
dmbass··on Fallback from CDN to local jQuery
Isn't using already cached assets one of the reasons to use a CDN for popular scripts?
dmbass··on Brain teaser: what does this switch statement print?
Maybe if you've never written C before...
dmbass··on Sony announces PS4 with 8-core x86 processor, 8GB GDDR5 memory and DualShock 4
Guess how much RAM the PS3 and 360 have.

PS3: 256MB for the Cell and GPU each 360: 512MB shared

I don't think Ouya is worth anything, but comparing RAM sizes is almost useless.

dmbass··on How Stripe built one of Silicon Valley’s best engineering teams
Just to be clear, the interviewer asks himself the "Sunday test" about the candidate. They don't ask you if you would go work with them on Sunday.
dmbass··on Show HN: a web-based xkcd-style comix editor
Well how do you expect it to work when the functionality is to change the appearance?
dmbass··on Flight: A lightweight, component-based JavaScript framework from Twitter
This library uses jQuery events which are synchronous. I.e. the event handler's callstack will include the triggerer a few levels up. Not any harder to debug than a direct call version.
dmbass··on Unlocking Cellphones Becomes Illegal Saturday in the U.S.
T-Mobile is already dropping subsidized phones. See http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/07/us-tmobileusa-ipho...
dmbass··on NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor details leaked
The Tegra 3 had this feature and appears to work relatively well according to http://www.anandtech.com/show/5779/htc-one-x-for-att-review/...
dmbass··on Thoughts on Go after a few days
> The standard library also seems to be missing a lot of the most common data types. As far as I can tell, there are no standard stack or queue types. ... How can a language provide an http server, but no stack type?

I've never really done any Go, but aren't these just different use cases for a Slice? Why would they need their own data type?

dmbass··on Priceline.com acquires Kayak for $1.8B
I've found Google Flights[1] to be a much better experience than either. It is stupid fast and has a great interface for comparing prices if dates are flexible.

dmbass··on Apple script resizes iPad banner and pushes Samsung verdict out of view
It resizes the height of the "hero" element (the iPad mini promo at this time) so that it takes up the whole height of the browser window, pushing the footer below the fold.
dmbass··on What is the name of this operator: “--”?
The preprocessor replaces the macro "as" with ";while" creating a do-while loop.

  do {
   printf("%d",x);
  } while (x-- > 0);
dmbass··on Not all 4G is built equally
The iPhone 5 is the newest and has the latest and greatest LTE modem from Qualcomm (MDM9615M) while the others are on year old stuff most likely (especially the hotspot devices).

And he doesn't say whether he was tethering on the iPhone/iPad/Galaxy Nexus, but going over two wireless networks instead of one for the hotspots could also be killer.
