Yes, exactly this. I use 'share' all the time on my phone between various apps which privately share photos, webpages etc with other people through messaging apps. That is my current understanding of what 'share' means.

dm319··on Violence alters human genes for generations, researchers discover
Lots of people here stating that this is an epigenetic change rather than a change in the genetic sequence, which I think is missing the point somewhat.

Epigenetic changes are an important part of your genetic make-up. To give you an example, the only reason that your skin cells remain your skin cells when they divide, and your liver cells remain your liver cells when they divide, is due to the epigenetic make up. Their DNA is the same, but the cells are very different, and epigenetics pass that information along when the code is copied.

In the same way, these stress-related epigenetic changes are being copied down and inherited by the generation two under.

This is already known, I think it was first seen in the Swedish famine cohort. At that time it was not clear it was due to epigenetics, but there was a clear signal in the health of those descendants [1], published here in 2002.

dm319··on Touchscreens are out, and tactile controls are back
On my commute to work, I often run into a very sudden traffic slow-down. It's general practice round here to slow down carefully, checking rear mirrors and to put your hazard lights on as you're doing so. My hazards on my ID3 are not a proper button (it is a 'touchbutton'). It is awful, I can't find it by feel, but I want to keep my eyes on the road in these kind of situations.

dm319··on We're excited about our new roundabout
A roundabout looks to be more appropriate here compared to the previous junction. The only thing that catches my eye as a UK-driver is the road markings would go against the way we would mark roundabouts in the UK. The dashed lines should indicate where the priority is - and that is on the roundabout, so in the UK there would be lines going across the road as you approach the roundabout, indicating that you are a minor road connected to a major road which has priority.

Driving in Morocco is a very special experience. Some roundabouts follow the 'priority on the right', which is a default if the junction doesn't indicate priority, in much of Europe (especially France). This means you give way to those approaching the roundabout, as they are on your right. But there are also roundabouts where you have priority on the roundabout. The only way to tell are to look at the road markings which help to indicate the priority.

Reminded me of an interesting way to optimise a layout[1] here. I feel like something similar expanded to also optimise balancing between hands etc could work well.

dm319··on FAA orders grounding of more than 170 Boeing 737 Max 9s
Comparing Boeing's woes to the A320 crash is to take a false middle ground. The A320 crash was the result of pilot risk taking for the purpose of showing off the plane. It didn't happen as the inevitable consequence of a company that prioritised profits over safety and had established management culture and government relationships to enable that.
dm319··on FAA orders grounding of more than 170 Boeing 737 Max 9s
The Netflix series Downfall is very good and focuses a lot on the root causes of these technical issues (i.e. business-focus of the company).
dm319··on FAA orders grounding of more than 170 Boeing 737 Max 9s
There should be people on life sentences for manslaughter of 346 people that happened as a result of corporate greed and a company culture which made company profits the only important metric of success.

dm319··on The world nearly adopted a calendar with 13 months of 28 days
If we redo the calendar then can we rename the months so they make sense. Sept/Oct/Nov/Dec need to be the 7/8/9/10.

Also, can we just switch to the duodecimal system. 12 is a much better base as divisible by 2, 3, 4 and 6. Divisions into 12 are already fairly natural - hours, months, inches in feet, dozens...

dm319··on My rude-ass car
I have a 2020 Audi, several times I've had to do an emergency swerve to counteract an emergency swerve done by the lane assist while on a slip road. It's also applied emergency braking when I drive down a narrow road that has a line of parked cars, which it thinks I'm going to drive into. It's a real fright to get sudden emergency braking applied when you are carefully negotiating round parked cars. Like you, I get the visibility warning at least once a trip.

Parking it beeps all the time for tight spots - in two tones for front and back. It is so hard to concentrate on parking, or even knowing what it is trying to communicate with me that I would be better just with it off so I can peacefully try to park it.

Also, it gets me to log in to the interface every now and then. If I don't then I can't access navigation, android auto etc..

My other car, a 2011 European Ford, is the complete antithesis.
