The whole QE program MUST be inflationary. It don't make any rational sense that a government could just purchase trillions of dollars worth of it's own debt with synthetic money and not have some inflationary impact (your initial fear). So what then? How is that massive force just being absorbed with no consequence? I don't know, I don't think anyone knows. I could speculate. It's likely that in a global economy China's artificially devalued currency allows us to print money without real inflationary consequences for us? Could be the dollar has become the de facto world currency and with this much wider circulation the system can absorb much more inflationary pressure than previously thought. Could be that this system is controlled more by behavioral economics than economics. Maybe people just believe a dollar is worth about X and that's very sticky until it isn't. This last idea is the scariest. Our government is just like a big bank. The value of the dollar is subjective and I believe serious inflation won't come in an incremental fashion, it will come in a black swan tidal wave. I could be wrong and I seriously hope I am!! I just don't think it's prudent to say, well we all thought (rationally and rightly) QE was going to cause inflation because it's so obviously an aggressively inflationary policy... then since it didn't we just turn the page and say oh well... glad that didn't blow up the dollar. We need to understand why that didn't have an effect.
Sorry about your phone. Yeah I'm aware, the signs of this trend are all around. Interesting how hangouts has become a unified communication hub. Close to hitting mainstream IMO.
IMO Our "phones" will soon be a service we login to rather than specific to any one device? If your physical phone breaks you just buy a new one for $50 and log into your cloud based phone. There are already services like that but I suspect it will tip soon for everyone. Aka Google is trying to commoditize the phones AND the carriers.
Anyone who is worried about deflation in the US right now is a moron. We printed (we actually don't even bother printing it we just change numbers in a database) more money since 2008 than in the entire history of the country. The Fed owns over a quarter of the whole bond market. http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertlenzner/2013/11/25/the-fed...
So glad no one was hurt! I'm not a rocket scientist but it looks like fuel was coming out the side of the rocked as it lifted off (kind of a puff) then it got worse and ignited from the nozzle at the bottom.
Cache is likely and that has legal ramifications. If they are just providing a viewer their hands are clean legally, if they cache they are in danger RE DMCA. Cool product, works remarkably well.
It's the secrecy. Apple can't test things extensively because the whole world is trying to get a pic of their latest devices. That coupled with huge scale is bound to create hiccups, the real test is how fast and how well they address the issues.
I'm simply pointing out that stealth isn't magic. In any battle it's good to spend time thinking about how you would kick your own ass. That makes you better.
Yep, that would be better. IMO the broader point is that stealth isn't magic. Just like any other tactic it has countermeasures... and pretty cheap ones. IMO this should be discussed more as our country pours billions into stealth aircrafts.
Yeah, acknowledge things are always easier said than done and this is still a very complicated problem but fundamentally it's a pattern recognition puzzle that could be solved IMO.
The way to defeat stealth is instead of looking for the size of the object look at speed and trajectory. The B2 famously has the radar cross section of a honeybee. No problem. I would just build filtering software for my radar that said show me all the objects of any size (even Bee size) heading my way at over 300mph. I'm sure this has been done, and it's alluded to in book Skunkworks (good book btw).
This is all headed to one login for all your email, sms, chat, etc. Gmail, Hangouts, Voice are all converging. Communication is far more valuable from a data science (aka marketing) standpoint than "social." Who you have as a "connection" on any network is nearly meaningless now, however who you actually talk to is very valuable information. This is why (not trying to start a political discussion) NSA stores meta data about who people talk to on the phone.
As a former Pro DJ that now leads a Unified Communications Startup I find your comparison especially entertaining... and accurate. Vinyl records are still around now although they are more of a novelty item (no one is making real money on them). What has persisted is the analog user interface (especially around DJ'ing). While Email may persist in the future all your contacts and all your communications will be all together in one place. It is ABSURD that when we lose/misplace our physical phones we often simultaneously lose contacts and the ability to make/receive calls & SMS. It is also ridiculous that we can't all have a simple threaded chat log of our communications with all our friends/contacts regardless of if they were calls/SMS/Email etc. Different messaging channels are like different music genre's, many people used to think genre's like rock and hip hop were totally separate because the companies that marketed them worked hard to reinforce this distinction. As tools like the iPod gave the user more choice in how to organize and experience their music they blurred the lines between these genre's. The same thing will happen in messaging. People don't care whether it's a Twitter Message, Email, SMS or call. They just see it as all as communication and no one platform will win the day, it will be a mashup of all of them.
Respect the intent to make a tool for peace, not a weapon. Want to point out that "Various purposes" might include the people shooting the missiles seeing if/where they land? These communications might better be conducted via bulk PM?
Google is responding by building it's own physical network infrastructure nationwide. Google Fiber is a big middle finger to the telecom industry. If Google is good at anything it's protecting Google.
I know absolutely zero about this industry but I'm not sure this fits the CC model. What's the plan to move up market? I just think there isn't any easy money, especially not in airlines. You gotta just be awesome at everything...
