disiplus··on Tesla influencers tried coast-to-coast self-driving, hit debris before 60 miles
Retreading is legal but only specified companyes with its own E mark legally can do it. And combine that with more in depth 12 or 6 months inspection for > 3.5t trucks it usually means that the tires are in better condition.
disiplus··on Want to piss off your IT department? Are the links not malicious looking enough?
hahaha yes, a couple of months ago some microsoft servers where down or really slow so no links from emails worked.
disiplus··on YouTube addresses lower view counts which seem to be caused by ad blockers
Where ? Like I have sponsor block on a desktop but on my pixel I don't have it and would like to have the option. Have the yt premium but don't see the option to skip sponsors.
disiplus··on YouTube addresses lower view counts which seem to be caused by ad blockers
no.
disiplus··on Mistral raises 1.7B€, partners with ASML
yeah, but try to convince a board or legal about it for a company that is not software first, for that they have to understand how it works. we have "chinese" AI blocked at work, even through i use self hosted models for myself at home hacking on my own stuff.
disiplus··on Stripe Launches L1 Blockchain: Tempo
In eu we have sepa instant transfer

That becomes mandatory in October this year

disiplus··on Ask HN: Looking for headless CMS recommendation
yeah, that's also what i don't understand, you can get wordpress for dirt cheap and don't even need a tech person to run it.

like if you dont have any money you can get wordpress hosting for free from wordpress.com

disiplus··on This blog is running on a recycled Google Pixel 5 (2024)
I have a fiber 2.5 gbit connection without static IP. But I run a script on the router that updates the DNS settings when the IP changes, you just have to have a DNS provider that allows you to do that and change ttl.
disiplus··on We should have the ability to run any code we want on hardware we own
yeah this whole shit where lets optimize it for the lowest common denominator is stupid. I hate everything about it.

im a older millennial, so i have older parents and young kids. My father could not bother with a smartphone or does not care about internet at all. My mother uses whatsapp and everything after initial year she is quite handy with it. Im not scared about her, im more scared that she is reading AI slop.

My kids are now at the age where a lot of the pears are getting a smartphone for them im not giving them a smartphone. If i give them a smartphone in a year or i will be using parental controls.

disiplus··on Google contract prevented Motorola from setting Perplexity as default assistant
i have a pixel phone, but google is not the good guy here. Like in this example, it basically bundles stuff in a way, so if you want for example the store, you have to take other stuff also and that other stuff has its own requirements.
disiplus··on TLS certificate lifetimes will officially reduce to 47 days
We have this, it's not trivial for some small team, and you have to deal with stuff like conda env coming with it's own set of certs so you have to take care of that. It's better then the alternative of fighting with browsers but still it's not without extra complexity
disiplus··on Claude can now search the web
I would say no. While I pay for chatgpt Claude and perplexity monthly (I don't know why anymore) my wife does not use any at all. She has around 5-10 things she uses on the smartphone, and if she needs something new there is still google.

I on the other side reduced my googling by 95%

disiplus··on Claude can now search the web
I'm also and I pay for the services that I use to not see ads, but I don't pay for every single one. For example a local classified website is financed by ads, and I don't think anybody will pay for just looking at stuff there. Maybe they can switch to the model where the person puting the thing for sale would pay but hat is something where we are not currently.
disiplus··on WordPress Is in Trouble
The benefit of WP is the huge theme and plugin ecosystem. I know of people that started a business just on WP + theme + plugin without any dev expirience or money for a developer
disiplus··on It's Time to Stop Taking Sam Altman at His Word
it's better at coding for me, and it looks like because it was trained on more data. i have this problem with a library that i use, and it was trained on python2 version but python3 version is completely different. Python3 versions is relatively new, but out from at leaset 2020 and you would mostly find examples with Python2 version if you googled.

They both produce garbage code in this solution. Claude versions is just 20% less garbage, but still useless. The code mixes those two, even if i specify i want the python3 version or directly specifying a version.

disiplus··on It's Time to Stop Taking Sam Altman at His Word
Didn't he own like 10% of Reddit. Here what pg had to say about the guy. --- Sam Altman has it. You could parachute him into an island full of cannibals and come back in 5 years and he'd be the king. If you're Sam Altman, you don't have to be profitable to convey to investors that you'll succeed with or without them. (He wasn't, and he did.) Not everyone has Sam's deal-making ability. I myself don't. But if you don't, you can let the numbers speak for you. --- https://paulgraham.com/fundraising.html
disiplus··on Show HN: iFixit created a new USB-C, repairable soldering system
Is this for professionals?. I need the soldering iron maybe 3 times a year. I'm ok throwing 100eur for something ok/good. But not 300.
disiplus··on iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
the thing that changes is when you get kids. I take a lot of photos of them and love it when google photos reminds me daily about them. but even that changes as they get older, the frequency goes down.
disiplus··on Serving AI from the Basement – 192GB of VRAM Setup
We have more expensive gas then usa, but i pay like a 5 cent per kwh @220V

Did not know how expensive it is in usa, especially California.

disiplus··on Dutch woman, 29, granted euthanasia approval on grounds of mental suffering
I for one am glad that it's not easy to commit suicide, because my sister tried and failed and after 10 years is finaly better. She has scares on the hands that she's hiding with tattoos. Mental problems can be resolved. Not all of them and not easy but it can work out.
disiplus··on Hackintosh is almost dead
from around 2008 to 2012 I ran hackintosh, on desktop, it was great and fun in 2012 I bought a first MacBook. The good experience on the hackintosh made me get the MacBook. So I like to think hackintosh helped apple.
disiplus··on Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union
It could be, they are technically complying while trying in court to throw out the law.

disiplus··on Figma and Adobe abandon proposed merger
There is for sure exactly defined in the paperwork where the money will go in case of x.

That was at least so when we sold our company.

disiplus··on Does uBlock Origin bypass the latest YouTube anti-adblock script?
I have been paying for YouTube premium for years now. And they are spamming the shorts feature with almost no way to turn it off on mobile or ignore it anymore. They are pushing me to stop paying for premium. Are they this stupid.
disiplus··on Are Open-Source Large Language Models Catching Up?
i have lenovo legion with 3070 8GB and was wondering should i use that instead of my macbook m1pro.
disiplus··on Sam Altman, OpenAI board open talks to negotiate his possible return
Maybe somebody leaked the information before to sam, so instead of letting everything fall apart, they hurried up and did it.
disiplus··on Sam Altman is still trying to return as OpenAI CEO
honestly, that's not my experience. sure you can admit in front of your friends, family and people that know you even if they are not your friend.

Admitting the mistake in front of strangers, usually leads to them making the shortcut next time and assuming you are wrong again.

you wont get any awards for admitting the mistake.

disiplus··on One sleepless night can rapidly reverse depression for several days in mice
I have ADHD, did never tried it with alcohol, but sleep deprivation works. I used it when working on important projects with deadlines. You kind of feel like in a parallel universe after a couple of a day if it's a interesting subject for you, ADHD gives you hyper focus, and sleep deprivation gives you this energy to push thru. It's like you don't even need the medication. If you combine it with ADHD medications it's like delirium. But anyway it comes all crashing after couple of days and you have to pick yourself up. I did it for import projects, but don't recommend it.
disiplus··on Norwegian ban on Meta behavioral advertising extended to entire EU
It does not work like that, the country made some laws. For example what safety rules does the car have to follow to be legal in us. You cannot just say, if you don't like that the car does not have a backup camera doesn't use it.
