dingledork69··on Thales seizes control of ESA demonstration satellite in cybersecurity exercise
I'm sure some modern reincarnation of terrorists would be interested.
dingledork69··on Show HN: YouTube Full Text Search – Search all of a channel from the commandline
> With billions of videos hosted, the key goal is to keep users engaged by serving up content they're likely to enjoy, thereby increasing view times and ad revenue

Maybe for some users. I just use youtube to find a specific video I need (because people have stopped writing useful how-to's now that they can just make a 10 minute video covering about 1 minute worth of text), and a full text search would be so, so useful.

dingledork69··on Migrating from Supabase
Far, far more performant though for filtering millions of rows

You don't have to use the xml format if you don't want to. Not sure why you wouldn't want to, since the xsd enables autocompletion in your IDE which makes it the most practical format of all.

Anyway, YAML and SQL format are a thing

I don't use supabase, but am a big postgres fan:

> that stuff in unmaintainable

Wrong. Version your functions and use something like liquibase to apply migrations.

How isn't this price fixing?
dingledork69··on European standards bodies are inaccessible to Open Source projects
Because apple stans want to make it clear they drank the koolaid. They wasted so much money it's very important for them to feel like it was the right choice.
dingledork69··on European standards bodies are inaccessible to Open Source projects
Wait, so you're blaming the EU for giving you access to a free market after literally begging to join?
dingledork69··on European standards bodies are inaccessible to Open Source projects
Yes, it did.
dingledork69··on European standards bodies are inaccessible to Open Source projects
Right, devices that require expensive chargers
dingledork69··on Where have all the hackers gone?
Exactly this. No one cares anymore, they just want $$$
dingledork69··on Who wants to be tracked?
Okay, how? Provide details, thanks.
dingledork69··on Who wants to be tracked?
Sure you can. Just stop crying because you can't share data about your users with 3rd parties without asking them first and get over it.
dingledork69··on OpenAI came after our domain because we use GPT in it
I wouldn't expect them to be that precise, especially when they misspell their client's name as OPENAL
dingledork69··on OpenAI came after our domain because we use GPT in it
I'm not american, but they always seem to do month.day.year for some bizarre reason

Probably better to have someone else wait at an ATM ready to withdraw once they get a text message.
dingledork69··on Show HN: Willow – Open-source privacy-focused voice assistant hardware
Thanks so much for doing this, that sounds very exciting and I can't wait to try it out!
dingledork69··on Uncensored Models
Instead of being open and honest I have to think about what details to hide from the LLM so it will agree to help me. This isn't very fun, so I prefer not to do it.

> Keep in mind that the ability to deal with moral issues is a side-effect of all the other good stuff it can do.

This is not true at all. It could do all of these things day 1. Then over the weeks OpenAI started training it to lecture its users instead when asked to do things OpenAI would prefer it not to do.

It's so sad to have seen ChatGPT go from useful and entertaining to a moralistic joy vampire.
dingledork69··on Moving from Blame to Accountability (2017)
Dutch has that distinction as well. Shows you not to trust ChatGPT.
dingledork69··on Why is there no open source firmware for laser or inkjet printers? (2019)
Community support & bugfixes. There's no real downside either, all printers that exist today are crap so it's not like they differentiate on firmware quality
dingledork69··on GitHub Copilot Chat Leaked Prompt
That's just how the examples it's trained on are formatted
dingledork69··on Supertokens: Open-Source Alternative to Auth0 / Firebase Auth / AWS Cognito
Like I already explained to you, not everyone agrees on the definition of open source. You have your definition, the open source foundation has theirs, and other people have their own. It is not a well defined term.

Why are you pretending you get to define the english language for everyone?

dingledork69··on Supertokens: Open-Source Alternative to Auth0 / Firebase Auth / AWS Cognito
No. That's just some people who registered a website and put up their organizations definition. The website milk.com doesn't get to define what the word milk means, either.

To some people Open Source means that the Source is publicly viewable. It doesn't say anything about your rights to use it commercially. This is why people often bring up definitions such as "libre", "free as in beer" or "free as in speech"

dingledork69··on Internet disrupted in Pakistan amid arrest of former PM Imran Khan
Keep on raising that bar. Just remember that USB sticks exist, I guess.
dingledork69··on Supertokens: Open-Source Alternative to Auth0 / Firebase Auth / AWS Cognito
Wikipedia is not an authorative source and the open source foundation is just some people who decided to name their org that.
