dillon··on Ask HN: framework for webapps in Scala
Lift is probably the most mature as well as the most documented Web Framework there is for Scala.
dillon··on IE9 vs. Firefox 4 (done in canvas)
This is why Developers hate IE, we have to make code specifically for that browser. I guess if you truly hate Microsoft, you wouldn't code it and just tell the user to download Firefox.
dillon··on Ask HN: Passenger_WSGI or FastCGI?
They support it, they have tutorials and wiki articles on them. I follow them step by step, then the next day it breaks, or when I download a module, it breaks. Very frustrating, especially when it works flawlessly locally.
dillon··on LG wants PlayStation 3 banned from US market
Seriously? Took LG this long to find something to complain about the PS3.
dillon··on Ask HN: RSS Reader that doesn't suck?
It depends on what kind of a computer user you are. If you are a pure online person then Google Reader is perfect, if you never want to be bothered by new RSS feeds, and just want to check them whenever then there is NetNewsWire, which will sync with Google Reader, so that if you have multiple computers you won't have to redo your RSS Feeds every time. If you like notifications for whenever new feeds come in, then Sociolite is a good app. If you like everything built in, just in one place. Outlook and Mail.app both have the ability to add RSS Feeds.
dillon··on 5 types of programmers
I am an Anti-Programming Perfectionist Programmer. Why should I write code that already exists, and has been developed on for years? I use other people's code then fit it in perfectly with whatever I'm working on.
dillon··on Ask HN: What are the problems of each Web Language?
Why then do I hear/read, Ruby on Rails has problems with routing and templating, and that PHP is just as bad as C++?
dillon··on Web Frameworks (An Ah-ha Moment)
You're right, people choose those frameworks because they're easy, but which frameworks gets more criticism? Mojolicious or any PHP framework? Configuring isn't totally a bad thing, yes it's long and sometimes difficult but in the long run, stuff will usually just work. Unlike Ruby on Rails where there are problems with routing and templating, or in PHP where there isn't a clear module system which makes it hard sometimes for complex web applications.
dillon··on I Didn’t Know You Could Do That With Google Docs [video]
That was AWESOME.
dillon··on I've had more fragmentation problems with iOS/iPhone than with Android
So it's not fragmentation, Apple just doesn't let you test in previous versions. This was an easy fix for all you needed was only one phone. Unlike Android who has over 100 different versions of Android, yes you have the emulator for each base version but you can't guarantee for every phone.
dillon··on Poll: Is HN your main online news source?
Since HN has strict rules on behavior I think that's one reason why it makes this site so appeasing to readers. This site is mainly factual with the sharing of opinions that creates a setting filled with lush information.
dillon··on Omega programming language
The reasons why these languages are created is because they are meant to solve your problem the correct way.

Java is a scalable language, for example, and using it correctly makes a good programmer. This goes for every language, whether it's C, Python, Javascript, ect. Good programmers know a wide variety of languages and when it comes to 'Omega' I think it's the combination of the languages used what they are meant for.

dillon··on Show HN: drag-drop file uploading for the whole web (Firefox/Chrome)
Maybe I'm missing something but why exactly does this app need your browsing history?
dillon··on TurboGears joins the Pylons Project
I personally think it's a great move. The combination of 2 great frameworks to make something better.
dillon··on Why (Some) Smart People Hate Programming
I personally believe we have so many programming languages because we have many problems to solve. When it comes to bad programmers, that's because they use and defend just one language. A good programmer is one that knows as many languages as possible and uses the correct language for the job. For example, if you need to create a nice UI then you use CSS and Javascript. If you need a simple server side language then you use PHP. If you need a program to be fast yet small then you use C. If you need scalable performance then you use Java. All of these languages have their purpose and using them correctly makes a good programmer.
dillon··on I Am SO Done with Windows 2.0
I declare that you don't have any good reason to complain about something that's really your fault. If you use any outdated OS the amount of features are about the same.

You could honestly spend $100 on craigslist and get a computer with XP on it.

dillon··on Low Skills Cause Procrastination
I respect your reasoning but I have to disagree. As a programmer when I am stressed or worried then I am working on the issue non stop until it's solved.

When something is easy you aren't stressed thus you aren't going to work on it immediately. When the issue becomes something stressful, because of time, that's when you begin working on it.

Therefore I'd have to say that we are pushed to work hard when we are stressed whether it's having low skills or having very little time.

I'd say when you are able to finish your project in a short amount of time, that shows you have a high level of skill, but if you have low skills and start it immediately and give the same results that shows a high level of skill in the form of determination.

dillon··on Ask HN: iPad vs. Netbook
So, what an iPad can do, is everything you've stated except (for what I know) basic web dev. You could go to docs.google.com and write long documents and the screen is ideal for reading and Safari on the iPad is phenomenal.

A netbook is most likely a better choice for what you want to accomplish. A physical keyboard makes writing long documents trivial, and you get access to a terminal for your web development.

The iPad was made for recreational use, basically for 'having fun', playing games, going on Facebook, ect.

dillon··on Poll: Haskell or Go?
I personally think that these two languages were built to do different things. I think it depends on the job that you have and what you need the language to accomplish in order to say which language is better to learn. I chose Go, because I'm a Web Developer and if I ever needed to do low level stuff I would use Go or Java.
dillon··on The other side of Hacker News - A User Experience Experiment
This extension is awesome. Definitely keeping this, very time saving.
dillon··on Ask HN: What's the best phone to write an app for for Linux C programmers?
The PDK is only for Mac/Windows. http://goo.gl/MnyQf
dillon··on Ask HN: What's the best phone to write an app for for Linux C programmers?
WebOS uses HTML/CSS for it's interface and uses Javascript for it's apps. Palm also has a PDK which allows you to write apps in C. Problem is Palm hasn't released it's PDK for Linux. Luckily some hackers have been able to get it to work. http://goo.gl/MnyQf
dillon··on Ask HN: Did you order an iPad? Why or why not?
There are plenty of reasons why people should or shouldn't grab an iPad. If you have come to rely on MobileMe, which means you probably have a MacBook, iMac, and iPhone. Then an iPad would be great. I for one am more of a Google fanboy. I own a Droid Eris, I don't use Microsoft Office or iWork, I use Google Docs. I use Google Calendar, Reader and everything else Google. Therefore, there isn't any reason to buy an iPad. An Archos internet tablet is probably more suitable for me.
