Awesome visualization.

Would love to see more

dieg0··on Drawscript – convert Illustrator shapes into code
Super cool, I've been on situations where this would have helped speed things up.

Very excited to give it a try, I have Illustrator 18.1.1 and it only works on 16 to 17.9, why is that?

dieg0··on “Profession” (1957)
thank you!
dieg0··on Show HN: StatisticalAtlas.com: demographic charts and maps down to the city block
Right! I missed that Zillow reference... very cool to see they provide that data for free. We are working on a project that will be using open street maps and will also have heavy loads of data, we have geo spacial data on Arc Shapefiles but we are not sure yet on how to work with that yet, do you have any tips on that?
dieg0··on Show HN: StatisticalAtlas.com: demographic charts and maps down to the city block
awesome work, thanks for this. Where do you get the city block and neighborhoods shapes from?
dieg0··on Periscope by Twitter
Lol, I know, felt stupid after I got to that realization

Just streamed what I'm currently working on... felt odd, like letting 14 people into my office, one guy even asked a question "what are you coding?", it didn't have a way to reply by text... which makes sense as you can be either streaming correctly or typing correctly, which is why once that happened the stream got extremely shaky, [sorry for that other viewers]

I think this has potential and it might take a unexpected turn once Carlos Danger gets the news

dieg0··on Laravel 5 released

dieg0··on What Happens When You Install the Top Download.com Apps
I've seen bugs in Word and Excel

Sometimes Words starts typing multiple lines and Excel freezes when copy pasting filtered cells. I've learned to work around these bugs, (having been there for over a year). Maybe Office for Mac is not be coded by the devil, but lacks features and is unsatisfactory in ways that make me consider turning on the PC

dieg0··on What Happens When You Install the Top Download.com Apps
iTunes for Windows is a monster that drains the life out of the PC.

Microsoft Office for Mac OSX was coded with the same evil spirit.

This behavior is unethical but pervasive, and should be outlawed somehow, it hurts everyone. Specially when it comes from the two biggest players in the market.

dieg0··on S.&P. Says Argentina Has Defaulted
You are right, things have changed in Colombia, but might be too early to say it is more stable
dieg0··on S.&P. Says Argentina Has Defaulted
Everybody involved in the 2001 default knew this was going to happen. And it can even be said that Argentina didn’t plan to pay what they promised from the beginning, although I cannot attest to it.

One detail I want to add to the discussion is that in the past few years the global panorama changed for Argentina, they sit on top of the second largest shale gas reserve in the world, and plan to extract it. They need money to start working and suddenly felt the urge to settle this issue.

Known fact: There is the Argentinean way of doing things, not straightforward, which is why talking about the bondholders like victims sounds naïve. They saw they might get their money now, and with Argentina’s shell gas urge probably felt the call to make more.

To me there is a larger scope, take a look at tech companies like Google and Facebook, they placed their head regional offices in Argentina. Both companies knew well in advance that the political and judicial system in Argentina is completely corrupt but still decided to direct their regional efforts from Buenos Aires. Why would anyone place offices in Argentina, when there is Chile, Perú or Colombia, countries that have greater political, social and economic stability, extremely better infrastructure, better weather and even tastier food.

I could be going paranoid but I believe it is simple; it looks like the big guys like to get in bed with the naughty ones, rather than the honest and better-behaved gals around the corner. This makes sense to me, after all, the bigger the risk the greater the possible reward.

The country is extremely wealthy, but that wealth is not getting to everyone (not that uncommon), and maybe that’s why the demonization of the international monetary funds has so much appeal locally. The certainty is that by the end of this story, it will be the Argentinean people who will be paying for this.

Love the idea, the example e-mail has offers looking for local developers, and only from inside the US. I wonder if that is a common requirement.
dieg0··on Where did all the developers go?
As a developer and designer I think agile methodology is a nice add-on for traditional workflows in startups. I love how it encourages interdisciplinary work. But I believe it took an unexpected turn towards treating the technical side of things as a mere commodity.

Last weekend I attended Startup Weekend event, looking to have fun trying to build something fast from a simple idea pitch. First day more than 80% of the crowd were business / marketing peoples. Designers were scarce and half of the few developers disappeared during the second day. Maybe I’m a masochist but decided to stay until the end, I figured I’d learn something about the agile event fauna. And I did: in most cases the agile methodology is stepping on top of rational thinking.

Do before you think and fail fast is good, only when you know how to do.

Last time I was on SW I had a lot of fun, but last weekend’s experience was somewhat sad. Gurus and their new methodologies might have some to teach, but will never replace rational thinking.

dieg0··on The next version of DuckDuckGo
Nice redesign, as a designer, developer and user: I like

I don't like the way that video search is actually Youtube search (to use 'video' is misleading, sad face). And I imagine when it comes to images is the same.

DuckDuckGo, if you would please add other media sources... Google used to do this, now it's all about keeping the user inside Google’s ecosystem.

dieg0··on 4K is for programmers
I agree, higher resolution displays is a productivity enhancer, but I also believe that saving money by purchasing a television, as a monitor, is not a good idea… taking care of your eyes is worth every extra dollar.

Just recently I went through the same issue, had to buy a new monitor for my work station, finally decided to go with a 2k Apple TB monitor, also considered Samsung alternative, but it doesn't have some of the features Apple added such as automatic brightness control and additional ports.

My decision was based on taking care of my vision, tvs simply aren't built to be viewed from a desktop distance, they are just too bright… they where thought to be used from a distance.
