This is the file for the computer, shoot me an email if you ever get around to implementing it. I'd love to see the result and talk about optimizing! dested at gmail

Great implementation. I love the wireworld cellular automaton so much.

A while back I implemented it in typescript and ran the computer startup file through it for the web. It is such a fun piece of logic to squeeze every nanosecond of performance out of.

dested··on New Features in C# 7.0
I'm a huge fan of http://bridge.net/ for c# to js "transpilation". The runtime isn't too hefty and provides great feature parity to javascript.
dested··on Ask HN: What's the one thing that let you grow the most as a developer?
What ndh2 said. Don't try to follow a tutorial on how to do it, just do it. If you know how to use substring and indexOf in your preferred language you can write a parser. If you know how to use switch case you can write a virtual machine. Boil it down to the most basic parts and just keep going.

It may be daunting at first, but its not magic ;-)

dested··on Ask HN: What's the one thing that let you grow the most as a developer?
The code is so gross and not runnable at this point that I wouldn't feel comfortable posting it. I can share the source with you though if you'd like. It's all c#. dested at gmail
dested··on Ask HN: What's the one thing that let you grow the most as a developer?
I built a programming language. I was inexperienced, winging everything, but I wrote the parser, interpreter, runner and virtual machine. Then I tried to make it as fast as possible. This accelerated my learning more than almost any other project I've worked on, and taught me things about profiling and optimization that I use in my career every day. I hit nearly every aspect of development in one fell swoop, and I look back on that time quite fondly.

This is the most simple and intuitive template builder I have ever played with.
dested··on .NET Framework – What's New in C# 7.0
I believe this would cause a change in the CLR as opposed to just syntax sugar. It's less of an issue for typescript since all type information is erased at runtime.
dested··on Announcing TypeScript 2.0
Wow! Great catch! I hope resharper gets this soon
dested··on Announcing TypeScript 2.0
I more meant in the form of tooling, not compiling. The intellisense that it provides is often incorrect vs VSCode which asks tsc what the intellisense is, making it always correct.
dested··on Announcing TypeScript 2.0
This isn't really the place for it but I really wish that both Webstorm and Resharper used the actual typescript compiler for its tooling (like vscode) vs handrolling their own. Now I have to wait until Webstorm 2016.3 to see the full benefit of 2.0, rather than getting it for free by just updating typescript. Not to mention the obscene number of typescript edge case inconsistencies in the warnings, errors, and refactorings.
dested··on Wireworld
This is my favorite cellular automata. The simplicity and elegance that allows for such complex logic.

I ported the famous wireworld computer[0] to javascript a few years back[1]. The source[2] is in c# transpiled to javascript so it may be a bit hard to follow, but still an interesting read of how to squeeze every draw call out of 2d canvas.

dested··on Show HN: C#-to-JavaScript compiler powered by Microsoft Roslyn
I am a huge fan of Saltarelle [1], which has the save level of support as this project. The only thing it seems to be lacking is proper source mapping abilities, which is currently in a dev branch. It also has many libraries already built, like JQuery or AngularJS. However, full support from Microsoft makes it much more realistic to bring in to a production environment. As a C# developer, this will be something to keep an eye on.

Edit: After reading more, this does not seem to be a Microsoft project.

I am very partial to saltarelle. It supports c# 5.0 constructs like async, c# 2.0 constructs like generics, and everything in between. It has a full suite of tests and relatively active. I have a lot of full projects implemented in it from 60fps canvas games to just normal sites. If anyone is interested in seeing some stuff, or just chatting about it, let me know.
