deknos··on Ryujinx (Nintendo Switch emulator) has been removed from GitHub
with scanner and printer i printed material for my school colleagues in the german version of highschool, because they could not afford some of the specialized books.

i do not say, piracy is always okay, but the intended use is VERY MUCH open to debate, depending on the view point and the money.

and even more volatile, if much money can influence the societal debate and the law system.

many people are very much we-trust-authority-and-companies-to-do-nothing-wrong.

deknos··on A Taxonomy of Tech Debt (2018)
if tech debt would depend on some kind of methodology it would not pop up with XP/Kanban/waterfall.

techdebt can even pop up in unorganized slowmo opensource software.

deknos··on BookStack: Simple and Free Wiki Software
please consider it bringing it into debian and/or guix. :)
deknos··on What Is Post-Quantum Cryptography? – NIST
I think this is also in https://libpqcrypto.org/ which has much more cryptographic primitives :) and has also the stuff from nist.
deknos··on Maker Skill Trees
wait, if i started using debian, even as admin, much of the stuff never applied to me. never installed java or python by hand, as it is not needed. never installed nixos.

Not saying, this is the way it should be (and i admit, i installed java by hand .. on freebsd once), but i am a bit skeptical.

deknos··on Slackdump
did anyone do a quick check, that this does not create data leakage? :D
deknos··on Magic Wormhole: get things from one computer to another, safely
Hi, i have indeed some questions!

* is there an app for it? where i can share the password via qrcode? for when the data is to big for qrcodes? * what do you plan on doing regarding quantum computation? switching to some pqsafe cryptography, also to be safe before save-now-decrypt-later-attack? * is it possible to extend your protocol over more generic proxies like turn servers?

deknos··on PyScript: An open source platform for Python in the browser
Does this work with Firefox?
deknos··on PyScript: An open source platform for Python in the browser
What i would like, if i could write scripts in firefox, which act the browser, like doing the evaluation at any stage i like. At GET the page, after ALL GETs. After javascript evaluation or before.

Is there something which can do this? and with full power of python also accessible to the host?

deknos··on SQLite-jiff: SQLite extension for timezones and complex durations
I hope, someone collects all these extensions and tests the combination very agressively :D
deknos··on SSH has become our universal (Unix) external access protocol
it's just a bit sad that there was never a proper port knocking protocol established, which had features and was provably secure in theory and implementation, than no one would have issues de/activating ssh per on need-basis
deknos··on Crafting Interpreters
I would wish, there's a german version which i could buy as hardcopy :D
deknos··on Aeon: OpenSUSE for Lazy Developers
i agree with the flatpak, sadly this will probably not change.

BUT! if you are a developer, you could run with distrobox graphically applications from the distrobox from OpenSUSE!

I am starting to use this on tumbleweed and there are even "exporters" so the app in the distrobox will be exported to your application menu on the metal!

deknos··on Internet Archive forced to remove 500k books after publishers' court win
> History shows the labor unions and leftists would also be against replicators.

Only because the rich would exploit the replicators and would leave everyone else in the dust starving.

Nobody would have a problem with it, if you could survive on them.

deknos··on Internet Archive forced to remove 500k books after publishers' court win
This is outrageous. it's difficult not to start hating this cannibalism-capitalism.
deknos··on US Bans Kaspersky Software
that's something you still have to prove.

also, it's not like the american-based companies will not do that with european data to america. :D

deknos··on Open Source Python ETL
Is it true opensource / free software, or are there non opensource parts?
deknos··on Nsss: A secure NSS-like implementation for static linking
well, of course to reach feature parity you have to implement it somehow. the question how they do it is a different can of worms.

i am glad they stopped complaining and do their own thing. i mean, this is opensource and free software about.

deknos··on Nsss: A secure NSS-like implementation for static linking
does this have the 2038 issue?
deknos··on ESpeak-ng: speech synthesizer with more than one hundred languages and accents
Is this better than the classical espeak which is available in opensource repositories?

I would be very glad if there's a truly open source local hosted text to speech software which brings good human sounding speech in woman/man german/english/french/spanish/russian/arabic language...

deknos··on Quantum Algorithms for Lattice Problems
Homomorphic Encryption does often use lattice mathematics
deknos··on Quantum Algorithms for Lattice Problems
Are the OpenSSH lattice instances or the ones of DJB affected by this problem?
deknos··on Minibone: practical end-to-end encryption for web apps
Well, you could accept only certain javascript libraries, like with librejs and then it would be fine.

In Theory.

In Practice, no one dares to verify cryptography in the browser, because it's just not possible. but that's not the topic here.

deknos··on Xzbot: Notes, honeypot, and exploit demo for the xz backdoor
can you give an example for an implementation of portnocking/ssh/over https and client certs?
deknos··on Linux ext2 filesystem driver now marked as deprecated
This. and the BSDs or Minix are not in the "Open Invention Network" and as far as i can see, the BSDs still do not have a kernel extfat implementation as i far as i just have checked on their websites
deknos··on Linux ext2 filesystem driver now marked as deprecated
but it's encumbered by patents of microsoft. BSDs or Reactos or minix are not allowed to implement it and distribute it freely.

only linux got a free pass from microsoft as they use it.

F** Microsoft and EXFat as long it's not freely implementable and distributable with free or open software.

deknos··on Show HN: macOS-cross-compiler – Compile binaries for macOS on Linux
Does this not need any xcode/macos license?
deknos··on Europe Regulates Its Way to Last Place
i have not read the content. and i do not think i will. the headline seems already like some opinion piece which is not worth the electrons with which they are sent.
deknos··on StyleTTS2 – open-source Eleven-Labs-quality Text To Speech
Is this really opensource and/or free software? like code, data(set/s) and models?

I am quite tired to see some "open-source" advertisement, where the half or more is not really free.

general psa: please be honest in your announcements :|

deknos··on Moving our Encrypted DNS servers to run in RAM
they should at least opensource their implementation. they may have errors there. should we just trust everything?
