dekerta··on Perfect Motherfucking Website
It just needs an auto-playing video that docks itself in to the corner as you try to scroll away from it
dekerta··on How we bootstrapped a $1M ARR email client
If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe
dekerta··on Vitamin D: The truth about an alleged Covid ‘cover-up’

I think it's more so something founders can tell themselves to feel better about the situation. Deep down they know it's not true
dekerta··on Firefox 87 introduces SmartBlock for Private Browsing
Of course not, it would have to be an opt-in feature. I'm sure some people who are worried about 1x1 tracking might use it though.

In the same way that a lot of people browse the web with noscript

dekerta··on Firefox 87 introduces SmartBlock for Private Browsing
How about this:

- The browser does not load any images by default. <img> tags are replaced by gray rectangles

- User must click on the placeholder rectangle to load the image

- User can add image URLs to a whitelist so they load by default

dekerta··on Neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 variants after infection, vaccination
That's a nice quote, but still doesn't answer the question. No government in their right mind wants to continue lockdowns unnecessarily. Lockdowns cost a lot of money and make a lot of voters angry
dekerta··on How I cut GTA Online loading times by 70%
This article is great. As a developer, I've always been curious about what the heck GTAO was doing that could take so long to load
dekerta··on Judge: Citibank isn't entitled to $500M it sent to various creditors last August
Not surprising that Oracle's promotional video for Flexcube is all corporate-speak and buzz-words, and doesn't actually show the product or even explain what it does. https://videohub.oracle.com/media/t/1_mxpp4dyv

All enterprise software is terrible like this. It's because the people ordering the software are disconnected from the people who will have to use it

dekerta··on Qt 6.0
I don't see a problem with a subscription model for development, but requiring a perpetual license as long as you distribute your Qt-reliant software is insane in my mind. The software is built. It's not getting any benefit from future Qt improvements or bug fixes.

It's amazing how many people in this thread are not only defending this, but talking about how great this licensing model is.

I'm guessing all these people have startups (or ideas for startups) that rely on gouging customers with never-ending subscription models.

I personally think subscription licensing models is the worst thing to happen to the software industry. I miss being able to purchase and own copies of software. I recently stopped using any Adobe apps and moved my entire workflow over to the Affinity suite. I prefer to support developers who don't rip-off their consumers

dekerta··on YouTube will now show ads on all videos even if creators don’t want them
I think those VCRs looked for the short black screen between the programming and commercials
dekerta··on “35-50% of clicks on Reddit Ads are fraudulent”
Why can't ads simply be targeted based on the content of the page or type of website? Show ads related to programming on /r/programming, ads for cars on /r/cars, and ads for antidepressants on r/wallstreetbets
dekerta··on Trello co-founder Michael Pryor on pandering to power users
Proud of 3-second response times. Modern web-developers in a nutshell
dekerta··on Trello co-founder Michael Pryor on pandering to power users
My team recently moved from Trello to Jira, and I really miss the simplicity and speed of Trello. Sure, Jira has every tool and feature you could ever think of, but it's so bloated and slow I find myself spending half the time waiting for the UI to catch up to me. I like it when products have lots of features and customization, but it can't come at the expense of usability
dekerta··on USB-C was supposed to simplify our lives, but instead it’s a total mess
The problem with that is most people don't keep USB cables in their original packaging. How am I going to know the specs of a particular cable when it's sitting loosely in a drawer with 20 other USB cables?
