dcdc123··on Ask HN: Sites like HN on other topics?
So...is that just reddit with more domains? :)
dcdc123··on Valve is a wonderful upstream contributor to Linux and the open-source community
I have been a gamer my entire life and about three years ago I became a full-time digital nomad. I preordered the Steam Deck the moment the window opened and received mine in the first couple of batches. It has been absolutely phenomenal. It is not perfect and not everything runs great, but _almost_ everything I want it to run works and _almost_ everything I play on it runs pretty well. I have even been playing BG3 on it. When i do finally settle back down and build a new gaming rig it will run Linux.
dcdc123··on Valve is a wonderful upstream contributor to Linux and the open-source community
Steam came out almost 5 years before GFWL.
dcdc123··on AI real-time human full-body photo generator
Scroll down to the text field at the bottom and delete everything in it. Then go back and reselect clothing.
dcdc123··on AI real-time human full-body photo generator
Be careful at work...it sometimes generates a realistic nude even with clothing selected.
dcdc123··on The $1M shot that changed sports contests
Probably more like a burst of views on a video boosts it in the algorithm.
dcdc123··on NASA mistakenly severs communication to Voyager 2
> which is currently almost 24 billion clicks away from Earth

It makes no sense to use that term in this article not to mention it is usually spelled klick.

dcdc123··on Exway doesn't care about USB-C conformity
Pretty sure the apple chargers will only work if the cable supports the charger’s max watt output.
dcdc123··on Exway doesn't care about USB-C conformity
The problem with Switch is really the charger. If a device pulls down the resistors it puts out 15v. It is dangerous to plug into other devices.
dcdc123··on Exway doesn't care about USB-C conformity
> a real manufacturer like monoprice

Monoprice does not manufacture anything. Also, a lot of the apple USB-C cables are power only.

dcdc123··on A civil rights group is challenging legacy admissions at Harvard University
> Thats a job for congress.

The Supreme Court doesn’t seem to think so.

dcdc123··on The US is building factories at a fast rate
Maybe this is why politicians seem to trying to ruin all education. They want generations of undereducated assembly line workers.
dcdc123··on The timing of computer search warrants when it takes years to guess the password
Same in the US. You cannot be compelled to provide a passcode, though. On the iPhone if you tap power five times or hold power and volume up or down for a couple of seconds it disables face/touchid until you enter the passcode. The passcode is also required after some number of incorrect face/touchid entries and when powering on.
dcdc123··on About Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
She’s about to release a rock album, maybe now is your chance :D
dcdc123··on FreeBSD spends 7% of its boot time running a bubblesort on its SYSINITs
I was happy to see R* patched the bug and gave him a $10k bounty for it since last time I saw it.
dcdc123··on Advertise on DuckDuckGo Search
I am not really surpsrised.

dcdc123··on Intel One Mono Typeface
Intel produces more software than most software companies.
dcdc123··on Heisting $20M of Magic: The Gathering Cards in a Single Request
Great article, thanks! I had a thought regarding something you said.

> this left me stumped as to why the client-side calculation even exists

I suspect it is to validate that the price they showed you in the client was the same price they actually charged you. It seems reasonable enough anyway.

dcdc123··on Illustrations of Japan’s “unseen” workforce of trains that work at night (2019)
Or just nap in a capsule for 4 hours before taking the first train home.
dcdc123··on Was there a U.S. nuclear weapons accident at a Dutch air base?
It looks like a staged training photo in just about every way.
dcdc123··on Amazon starts flagging frequently returned products that you maybe shouldn’t buy
As long as sellers can still take a listing for one item and switch it to another with all of the stats and reviews retained this is going to have limited impact.
dcdc123··on Samsung “space zoom” moon shots are fake, and here is the proof
I knew I saw this before.
dcdc123··on The FBI now recommends using an ad blocker when searching the web
Brave browser on iOS has good blocking, but the browser experience itself is a bit of a mixed bag.
dcdc123··on Reddit is experiencing a partial outage
Let's be honest here...Reddit is _always_ experiencing a partial outage...
dcdc123··on Tesla Will Open Some Chargers to All Electric Vehicles
https://archive.is/r3s5n
dcdc123··on “How America took out the Nord Stream pipeline”
I blame it on the lack of downvote buttons. (*for most users)
dcdc123··on Companies use drip pricing to overcharge consumers
T-Mobile plan prices are inclusive of all fees and taxes.
dcdc123··on Google combines Maps and Waze teams in restructuring move
I’m a nomad and have spent the last two+ years traveling the us. Google maps routing has degraded significantly in that time. I was really happy with it at first but it’s gotten worse over time. Now I dread using it and know it is going to fail to inform me correctly about which lane to be in, will pick odd routes (especially when not on the highway), and most annoying of all is they have added all sorts of phantom merges which often obscure the real next turn/exit until the last second because there is a nonexistent merge on the map.
dcdc123··on Apple announces ‘upgrade’ to App Store pricing, adding 700 new price points
I had no idea price points were so restrictive on the app store.
dcdc123··on My building has replaced our keys with an app
Most of the US differentiates owned vs rented by using the terms condo or apartment, but the term apartment is used for both in at least Chicago and New York.
