dbalatero··on Magnifica Humanitas
Did you mean AGI? I'd think whatever else they are doing, LLMs are reducing RSI...
dbalatero··on Leave Me Behind
Thank you for writing what I want to scream every time a comparison is made to some archaic technology change.
dbalatero··on Electrobun 2.0 will be decoupled from Bun due to the Rust rewrite
That is quite the stretch you're making.
dbalatero··on Bun support is now limited and deprecated
Given some posters on the GitHub issue, I get the sense some people feel their religion is being violated.
dbalatero··on AI is just unauthorised plagiarism at a bigger scale
Not sure what you're missing here. The other comment replies don't seem to be missing it. See the article, etc.
dbalatero··on SpaceX S-1
Damn, another Simpsons already did that with Mr. Burns' sun blocker.
dbalatero··on SpaceX S-1
Yes and both are getting sued? I wouldn't necessarily classify the NAACP as environmental activists, but they are concerned with the wellbeing of the people they represent.
dbalatero··on SpaceX S-1
Then why do they keep getting sued, then going one state over and running the same playbook that got them sued in the previous state?

dbalatero··on GitHub confirms breach of 3,800 repos via malicious VSCode extension
Mierdas, as they say.
dbalatero··on How fast is N tokens per second really?
This is cool, thanks for making it.
dbalatero··on Cursor Introduces Composer 2.5
> Seems like Linear just hopped on the buzzword hype train at the exact right moment...

I think you nailed it. Provided an agent can connect and ingest the information in the ticket, that's basically what's needed. I guess it's nice to be able to nudge ticket status and post back to it, but all of those seem like wiring up existing APIs to an MCP and calling it good. I don't see why JIRA couldn't execute on that, despite being Atlassian.

dbalatero··on Today I've made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%
You nailed it. Only option is to build skills, preferably on company time. Just remember there's a lot of mediocre devs, and you probably have more time than you think to do things.
dbalatero··on Show HN: Pollen – distributed WASM runtime, no control plane, single binary
I suspect you have something cool, but I think if you told a clearer example story that solves a real-world problem on the homepage it might alleviate some questions I'm seeing (and also having) in the thread here!
dbalatero··on AI should elevate your thinking, not replace it
Given the same compiler, I believe they would be the same between runs given the same inputs. I suppose that could not be true at the margins, but I would expect correctness out of whatever path it chose.
dbalatero··on The West forgot how to make things, now it’s forgetting how to code
I'm curious why this is a vs and you have to pick both? I've found coding for the love of code always helped me accelerate my speed and ability so that I could also deliver solidly on time and solve the problems too.
dbalatero··on Commenting and approving pull requests
I do the same as the author, and for my comments I make it clear what is non-blocking/blocking with Conventional Comments: https://conventionalcomments.org

To make it easier for myself to leave the CC tags ("nit(non-blocking): ", etc), I use the macOS text expander in System Settings and created mnemonics to easily insert them.

Example: If I type "+pnn", that maps to:

+p = pull request comment n = nit n = non-blocking

Example 2: If I type "+pc", that maps to:

+p = pull request comment c = chore

(and it's blocking because I didn't type "+pcn", the non-blocking version).

dbalatero··on George Orwell Predicted the Rise of "AI Slop" in Nineteen Eighty-Four
Yeah sounds like a real winner of a short story at the top of the priority list.
dbalatero··on Cirrus Labs to join OpenAI
I just don't think there's much upside to telling it how it is in the press release that gets buried after a week and everyone moves on. For better or worse.
dbalatero··on Code is run more than read (2023)
I've found the users-first mentality degrading over the years at companies. It's a bit jarring too, since a lot of my early training was pretty user-centric.
dbalatero··on Our commitment to Windows quality
I guess I don't play those.
dbalatero··on Our commitment to Windows quality
I've gone fully to Linux and all my games surprisingly run. I was ready to ditch some but I even got Blizzard stuff working which was my main concern.
dbalatero··on Machine Payments Protocol (MPP)
Curious since I haven't followed super closely: what's busted about MCP?
dbalatero··on LLMs can be exhausting
I notice myself not reviewing in depth, and I assume many many others are not either.
dbalatero··on Hammerspoon
If you're on macOS have you tried Karabiner Elements? It seems to do just fine with software mapping my macbook keyboard.
dbalatero··on Hammerspoon
Insanely easier to use, way better programming language, a kitchen sink of macOS APIs, and you can still call out to AppleScript when you need it: https://www.hammerspoon.org/docs/hs.osascript.html#applescri...
dbalatero··on Hammerspoon
Some stuff I've made in Hammerspoon you can use:

- Vim mode everywhere in macOS: https://github.com/dbalatero/VimMode.spoon

- Modifier keys + click/drag to resize or move windows: https://github.com/dbalatero/SkyRocket.spoon

- Show an overlay helper of all your keybinds when you hold modifier keys down: https://github.com/dbalatero/HyperKey.spoon

And my huge pile of random scripts/configs: https://github.com/dbalatero/nixpkgs/tree/main/home/modules/...

dbalatero··on Hammerspoon
Syncing configs is a pretty solved problem with dotfile repos. I even made a starter repo anyone can fork & use: https://github.com/dbalatero/dotfiles-starter
dbalatero··on Hammerspoon
I have an unreleased pile of tutorial projects with Hammerspoon. I think not all chapters are finished, so I need to clean up and finish it at some point soon: https://learnhammerspoon.com
dbalatero··on Hammerspoon
Karabiner can _create_ new keys like hyper, but you _bind_ them with Hammerspoon.
dbalatero··on A beginner's guide to split keyboards
Learning the new layout can be vastly accelerated by doing typing practice slowly, instead of trying to do 100wpm and crashing out. Doing it slowly makes the same brain connections, and you can exponentially ramp the speed up once you get slow reps in.

Same principle as slow practice for music instruments.
