dazzla··on Ask HN: How much money does your iOS app make?
I have free and paid versions of iDealyzer on iOS and Android. Each month the income is roughly a 50/50 split between app sales and affiliate commission (people buy stuff from my app). January(not the first month) income was $150 September was $1,000.
dazzla··on Ask HN: Why aren't you applying to Y Combinator?
I would love to learn from YC and work full time on my startup but I have made life choices that mean it would not work for me. Mainly I spent too much money on a house and have a wife and child to support. So that means I need to keep my stable (as much as any really is) corporate job and work on my bootstrapped startup in my spare time.

Would have been nice to be more enlightened earlier in my life but now that hindsight just fuels my motivation.

dazzla··on How to Support 5,000 Customers with No Support Staff
Your product makes a huge difference. I'm a company of 1 working after hours and I'm supporting 9,000 users with little more than email.
dazzla··on The end of the road for the Nexus One
But it does come with a free case. I really nice neoprene one right in the box from day 1.
dazzla··on Ask HN: Are Aeron chairs worth it?
I highly recommend this chair ($129) http://www.officedepot.com/catalog/catalogSku.do?id=0363871.

I'm not at the point where a $500 chair is not a big deal. I did a lot of searching before I found this one. Many people reviewed it as being the only sub $500 chair worth having.

dazzla··on Amazon's Universal Wish List button: add anything on the web to your wish list
This was available long before the Facebook button.
dazzla··on Urban Airship's AirMail takes push notifications to the next level
I only send notifications to the paid version of the app. But a one time $1.99 doesn't really map to the on going costs of sending the notifications. I have considered sending notifications to the free users as well as it seams to increase use of the app which should lead to purchases/affiliate commissions.

However a subscription model is probably the way to go of course.

dazzla··on Urban Airship's AirMail takes push notifications to the next level
This looks very nice. I especially like it being a library so users are still taken to the relevant app. I have thought of adding a history of notifications to my app but was hoping apple would do this before long and didn't want to duplicate effort. I wonder if they will add this as it is a gaping hole in the functionality they provide.

I would love to add AirMail but as I send about 200,000 notifications a day with about $300/month of revenue there is no way I can afford your service.

dazzla··on Ask HN: What are you working on tonight?
Debating adding the deals from my iDealyzer iPhone/Android apps to the supporting website hoping it will help SEO.
dazzla··on Apple's Mistake
From my anecdotal experience the approval process got a lot quicker with the build up to the iPad announcement. I had many updates approved in 24 hours or less when they have taken weeks before. However looks like its ground to a halt again as I have an update still waiting for review after 5 days.
dazzla··on Car CNG conversion licenses cost $10k from the EPA
However much the parts and labor costs the licensing fee adds $10k which is very significant.
dazzla··on The $12 startup that was sold on Twitter for about $100,000
I have wondered why there is no vanity licence plate market in the US. Do the US laws not allow them to be transferred to other people? Or maybe it's not allowed with money involved?
dazzla··on Build a Business, win $100,000
I'd love to start a store but I'm drawing a blank on what to sell or especially where to find it. Looks like the drop shipping and importing world is a mine field.

Anyone have any pointers to get a rookie started?

dazzla··on The brutal truth about America’s healthcare
People die with no hope of health care as they don't have the $$. Would you rather be told you have to wait or can't have it at all?
dazzla··on Ask HN: what unwanted domain names are you sitting on?
spamlies.com
dazzla··on Redundant. Bored. I'm coming to SFO. Tight budget.
Cost of living in London is number 3 in the world. San Francisco is number 78.

dazzla··on Ask HN: Who's Hiring?
Long shot but does anyone have anything around Sacramento?
dazzla··on Mobile Growth: Don’t Bet On It
If you want to see the future of mobile you should not look at the USA but Japan, Malaysia, Europe, etc. The iPhone has been a good catch up for the USA but even that is less restricted outside the USA.
dazzla··on Why do you have to click Start to shut down?
Is it really that unintuitive to click the start button to start the shutdown procedure?
dazzla··on Ask YC: Feedback on BreakkUp.com
I've found Mollom http://www.mollom.com very effective at preventing spam. It was super easy to add as I was already using Drupal. But it will be more work to add to pligg. Maybe it would be less work to convert to using drupal/drigg http://www.drigg-code.org ?
