I really like your explanations. I have never been able to wrap my head around joins.

You say that: "Programming is best learned by doing", but I am struggling to do anything...

It would be great if there was some online area like SQL Fiddle with the data loaded, so I can run queries and see results in my browser without having to set anything up or am I missing something.

dawie··on Kanban for E-Mail
My biggest question is: Does it work with Gmail, but this is no answered anywhere, so I am not keen to sign up. (I also don't really know what I am signing up for.)
dawie··on Ask HN: What's your favorite way of getting a web app up quickly in 2018?
+1 for Meteor

Also look into Bubble for really quickly getting something up and prototyping an idea.

You need to find a way to consistently reach out to your target market and talk to them about their problems. You can cold call or cold email. I don't like cold calling, but for cold email I use quickmail.io.

I also use LinkedIn to reach out to people, since you can directly target B2B customers/business owners. I use https://linkedprospect.com/ to consistently reach out to people using LinkedIn

dawie··on Ask HN: My startup has basically failed. What now?
You and your team should watch this 3 times right now: https://youtu.be/_6pl5GG8RQ4

It’s about finding product market fit after a few different products. It talks about how their new successful product (150 staff) is a small feature from one of their other products and how they scaled that!

Do it!

dawie··on Show HN: Read My Book Notes
Thanks for this! These notes are incredibly useful and makes me want to read some of these books I haven't read before. It's also a great reminder of books I have read in the past and need a quick refresher on.

I find the difference between the Free and Pro versions especially for the live preview a bit confusing.
dawie··on Ask HN: Want to sell your side project?
A Website,App or Saas with a small number of customers generating a little bit of revenue.

I basically want to buy something I can grow.

In the past a bought a website for $5K and sold it for $30K after growing it.

I think that starting with something small is better than starting at zero.

I am a big fan of "lifestyle" businesses. Why are your margins so low, if you are the only employee?
dawie··on How to Keep a Journal
I love this idea. Thanks for sharing!

I have been using paper, Evernote and apps, but I love this simple approach and I think it will work really well for me, since there is so little friction with all the upside I am looking for.

dawie··on Onboarding teardowns
Do you get clients directly from your site?

Or do most of your clients come from referrals or recurring work from existing clients?

dawie··on Onboarding teardowns
Does this site get you quite a few consulting clients, or is it more word of mouth?

PG: I have always found your essays (and books) extremely easy to read and reading them feels like having a conversation with you. (Unfortunately I have never had a conversation with you)

Thanks for your tips and I will use them to better my writing and make it easier for people to read my stuff.

dawie··on Ask HN: How much money are you making as an indie mobile app developer?
I made about $1,500 per month with this App for about a year [1]. Over time the downloads went down and so did the revenue. (It came down to about $300 per month).

This website, which I own started it all [2]. The website was always free and the app was an revenue generating up-sell for the website.

In Dec 2014, I wanted to sell the Website, but all the sites like Flippa wanted Adwords Revenue, so I put Adwords on the site...to show some revenue and try and sell the site.

Adwords revenue immediately jumped to $2K a month, so I decided to make the app free again, since it was only making $300 and I would rather get it in as many people's hands/pockets as possible.

Comment if you have any other questions.
