daveidol··on Become unbannable from your email
That’s pretty funny.

If you use a password manager you could obviously just put something random instead of the company name.

daveidol··on Who owns Express VPN, Nord, Surfshark? VPN relationships explained (2024)
I'm curious to learn more about Windscribe. Do you have any more info you can share about their practices?
daveidol··on Apple takes down ICE tracking apps after pressure from DOJ
Absolutely. The Biden administration was censoring posts (even memes) on Meta platforms during COVID, according to Zuckerberg.
daveidol··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
Agreed. Was going to post the same thing. It’s very much a debatable position.
daveidol··on An open letter calling for a hard fork of Rails to remove DHH's influence
I agree I think he probably goes too far in that post. Some of what he says at the beginning sounds like an opinion on cultural displacement (perhaps a reasonable discussion), but he veers into more fear-mongering and generalizations about specific groups.
daveidol··on Auth.js is now part of Better Auth
Sorry it was a bit off-topic (not related to Auth.js).

I'm specifically asking about Better-Auth, as I'd love to use it in an iOS app but the client library is all JS. I'd even consider writing my own client library, but there is virtually no documentation on how to do so.

daveidol··on An open letter calling for a hard fork of Rails to remove DHH's influence
Honest question: would it be any different if someone were to write a piece complaining about the cultural identity of, say, Japan being lost due to American or European immigrants/tourists?

Also what is your opinion on gentrification?

Please add support for Swift!
daveidol··on Everything that's wrong with Google Search in one image
A lot of people want to complain but don't want to pay (not saying that is OP, just generally)

How is a “dynamic allowlist” useful if it can still access anything based on what the user prompts? Is there a way to impose a static allowlist too?
daveidol··on Help us raise $200k to free JavaScript from Oracle
Ryan actually had the foresight to add permission sandboxing to deno from the start though
daveidol··on Help us raise $200k to free JavaScript from Oracle
If deno is supported, I prefer it to node. But unfortunately node support is still the “standard” for most platforms I’d say.
daveidol··on SQLiteData: A fast, lightweight replacement for SwiftData using SQL and CloudKit
I just want to say thank you for the great work you guys do! I honestly have no idea why people feel the need to tear you guys down.

Using TCA has been a great tool for me in my toolbox and it’s very clear how much time and effort goes into making these libraries, documentation, videos, online support, etc.

daveidol··on React is winning by default and slowing innovation
Sure you can make a blog without a framework. But for complex applications it’s far better/easier than raw DOM manipulation or rolling your own thing.
daveidol··on macOS Tahoe
I'm curious if it will get me to stop using Alfred
daveidol··on Toxic "forever chemicals" found in 95% of beers tested in the U.S.

daveidol··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
He never once stated that “empathy is bad”. He had plenty of bad takes, but no need to misrepresent.

He was simply saying that the term empathy is overused vs sympathy

daveidol··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
What is an “unequal” idea?
daveidol··on [dead]
I hope they catch this evil person
daveidol··on Charlie Kirk killed at event in Utah
I just searched “Charlie Kirk” and found tons of it?
daveidol··on She puts the Lord in 'vanlord.' Palo Alto wants to ban her business
Plenty of affordable places elsewhere though
daveidol··on She puts the Lord in 'vanlord.' Palo Alto wants to ban her business
For what she’s charging you could easily afford an apartment somewhere that isn’t Palo Alto.

I get what you’re saying but I think you’re going too far in the other direction. Some people are okay with a “bohemian” lifestyle and want to live on the beach in Venice or Palo Alto or whatever and will use exploitative means to do so.

daveidol··on Plex Security Incident
Some humans use password generators though, so those should be safe

Damn junkies man

ObjC is mostly dead, and most Swift devs are not comfortable with C++.
daveidol··on Ask HN: The government of my country blocked VPN access. What should I use?
Wow, kinda crazy to think about a government blocking a protocol that just simply lets two computers talk securely over a tunnel.
daveidol··on Kiwi.com flight search MCP server
Could we? Yes. Would people use it? Probably not.

That ship has sailed and now consumer expectations are pretty set on “free” for a lot of things.

daveidol··on Michigan Supreme Court: Unrestricted phone searches violate Fourth Amendment
That part sounds like a good thing? Assuming the warrant was legitimate- that’s the part that feels problematic.
daveidol··on We put a coding agent in a while loop
So wait is he an actual software engineer doing this as a side hustle? Or like a vibe coder guru that basically only works with AI tools?
