daurnimator··on A function decorator that rewrites the bytecode to enable goto in Python
Lua has `goto` since 5.2; you don't need a continue keyword. e.g.

  for z=1,10 do
    for y=1,10 do
      for x=1,10 do
        if x^2 + y^2 == z^2 then
          print('found a Pythagorean triple:', x, y, z)
          print('now trying next z...')
          goto zcontinue
        end
      end
    end
    ::zcontinue::
  end

daurnimator··on The case for continuous documentation
None of this works if the programmer isn't the same person that writes the docs. e.g. if you have a copy-writer come along and write/update the docs before each release, then its not captured in the same commit/branch/etc.
daurnimator··on Zig 0.8.0 Release Notes
Yes it is.
daurnimator··on How to bypass Cloudflare bot protection
A lot of people just verify that X-Forwarded-For matches a Cloudflare-owned IP.

As this post demonstrates, you need to verify against the cloudflare origin pull CA (see https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/204899617-A... )

daurnimator··on Typing Is Hard
> Zig

> undecidable, since evaluation of recursive functions at compile time is possible, thus requiring the compiler to solve the halting problem.

Zig's comptime is limited to the number of backwards branches you allow, see https://ziglang.org/documentation/master/#setEvalBranchQuota

> you don't learn a language by reading a dictionary

I love this quote, adding it to my quote list; is it from something?

"Feta" is not a protected term here in Australia (where the youtuber is apparently from)
daurnimator··on Show HN: Zfs.rent
Sounds great; would you consider offering the same for `btrfs send`?
daurnimator··on Using const/let instead of var can make JavaScript code run 10× slower in Webkit
I ran into this when working on fengari: debugging with V8 people, using `const`/`let` pushes the variable onto a stack of things to pop at end of scope; while `var` does not. This was accepted as intentional and that if I really cared about speed I would use `var`...

> nearly 400,000 children had been inoculated with Cutter polio vaccine and 250 cases of atypical paralytic polio occurred. There were also reports of the Wyeth pharmaceutical company polio vaccine causing paralysis and death in several children in the northeastern United States. 19 , 21

> It was soon discovered that some lots of Cutter and Wyeth polio vaccine were insufficiently inactivated with formalin leading to live polio virus in more than 100,000 doses. In fact, 16 lots of Cutter polio vaccine were retested and the first six lots produced were positive for live polio virus. These incidents demonstrated the lack of oversight and safeguards put into place before the vaccine was made so widely available.

daurnimator··on Japan facing credit card number shortage
with the change to chip & pin the liability was moved from the credit card companies to the merchants. (this is why banks pushed for it so hard)
daurnimator··on Old salt mine is the first emission-free compressed air energy facility (2019)
How are you going from size of a field (which should be square meters) to volume (meters cubed)?

The MCG (an australian football field) is 25,000 square meters. The stadium holds approx 1,700,000 cubic metres.

"Football field" is a highly regional term.... lets not measure things in them?

daurnimator··on Netflix now supports TLS 1.3
IIRC netflix mostly use AWS these days. So checking IPs will just check for anything AWS hosted.
daurnimator··on Netflix now supports TLS 1.3
Also to prevent traffic shaping: ISPs throttle traffic that contains netflix.com in the SNI. ESNI (encrypted SNI) comes with TLS 1.3.

Yes.

daurnimator··on Kernighan's Law: You are not smart enough to debug it

If you're near a change in daylight savings then that will go wrong.

daurnimator··on Hacked from a lightbulb
Except that many IOT devices require you to be in the broadcast domain for control and discovery....

e.g. with LIFX wifi light bulbs, you can control them with low latency (and no internet connection) via ip packets; or high latency via LIFX's cloud servers if you're not in the same subnet.

Why wouldn't iText deserve your money if you were using it in your commercial product?

daurnimator··on WireGuard is now in Linus' tree
Depends on your region and the name in question. e.g. macquarie (https://www.macquariedictionary.com.au/resources/view/resour...) say:

> Personal names ending in s are these days often given the regular apostrophe s, whatever their number of syllables or their sound:

>

> Burns's poetry

> Dickens's novels

>

> Those who have occasion to refer to classical or biblical names of several syllables may still prefer the apostrophe alone, as with:

>

> Jesus' teachings

> Moses' law

> Euripides' plays

Huh. That is the reason I used waze: it's the only app that would take advantage of back streets.
