darthrupert··on Hyundai's EVs are about to get smarter and more efficient with new 'Pleos' brand
If I may split hairs a bit, I do want a smarter EV. But that should imply less hassle, not more.

It's the kind of smart that is not easy to make.

> Hyundai’s next-gen infotainment system, Pleos Connect, is an Android-based system with a “smartphone-like UI.” It includes features like multi-window functions and an AI voice assistant.

... and it's clear that Hyundai is not making the kind of smart I'm talking about.

darthrupert··on iCloud Mail has DNS misconfigured?
This sort of anti-progress sentiment doesn't belong here, I feel.
darthrupert··on I genuinely don't understand why some people are still bullish about LLMs
Is it worse or better than quoting a Twitter comment and taking that as it were authoritative?
darthrupert··on The Worst Programmer I Know (2023)
It's not even an excuse.
darthrupert··on The Worst Programmer I Know (2023)
Damn. Now that I read this I realize why my current team feels like nothing gets done and the reason is the team has no Tim.
darthrupert··on BYD says new fast-charging system could be as quick as filling up a tank
Since you claim an extraordinary thing without evidence...

No. It's not.

darthrupert··on BYD says new fast-charging system could be as quick as filling up a tank
I think holding China to a greater standard than USA shows respect rather than disrespect for China.
darthrupert··on Can Trump Arbitrarily Take Money from Anyone's Bank Account?
Yes. Trump v. United States, 603 U.S. 593 (2024)
darthrupert··on Can Trump Arbitrarily Take Money from Anyone's Bank Account?
Wouldn't that require a working judiciary system?
darthrupert··on Migrating from AWS to a European Cloud – How We Cut Costs by 62%
These are not excuses, but actual reasons: Lambda, S3, DynamoDB and many other cloud-native things.

But sure, if you're just renting ec2 resources and rearchitecturing is not feasible, AWS is probably a bad idea.

darthrupert··on Y Combinator urges the White House to support Europe's Digital Markets Act
The current admin is not going to support anything sane or european. But nice sentiment.
darthrupert··on China unveils revolutionary chip without silicon – 40% faster than Intel / TSMC
Don't post Twitter links.
darthrupert··on Donald Trump Says Attacks on Tesla Dealerships Will Be Treated as 'Terrorism'
If the attacks are coordinated and the purpose is to cause fear in the owners of the cars, it isn't entirely not terrorism.

But logic and truth shouldn't be used to defend the behavior of people who themselves corrupt both logic and truth all the time. Like Trump, Putin and Musk.

darthrupert··on The Future Is Niri
Vice versa for me: I cannot understand how people with small screens can use anything but tiling.
darthrupert··on Volkswagen Bringing Back Physical Buttons, Says Removing Them Was a Mistake
I've test drived new VW cars and their ux is indeed quite bad. But this is because *their ux is quite bad*, not because of fundamental problems in the idea.

A buttonless Tesla works just fine, although they have also went too far in the latest models.

darthrupert··on A 10x Faster TypeScript
This kinda begs the question: should we port all backend Typescript code to Go (or Rust) to get a similar runtime performance improvement? Is Typescript generally this inefficient?
darthrupert··on What Happened with the DDoS Attacks That Took Down X
Musk has adapted Trump's and Russia's policy: never tell the truth. Being honest is a weakness.

This is of course wrong. Obviously ethically but also practically. By now we already know that everything peoole like this say is probably not true.

darthrupert··on Twitter.com – Is Twitter Down?
Mastodon is the real alternative, but many people seem to be converging at bluesky. Which is fundamentally not much better.
darthrupert··on Kia Trolls Tesla with Anti-Elon Ads
>needs new extremely expensive tires every year

Huh?

darthrupert··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
Yes, the easiest because it was the only way.

It worked, didn't it? Every prosecutor just quit soon after Trump was elected.

darthrupert··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
Trump probably is planning to cash in by raping the country of its mineral and oil wealth.
darthrupert··on US Ends Support For Ukrainian F-16s
Will America ever be trusted again?

Also, stop flagging news articles simply because they are slightly anti-Trump.

darthrupert··on Volkswagen reintroducing physical controls for vital functions
This supports my point: even if the interface would be unsafe (which there is no reason to believe), the effect would be negligible.
darthrupert··on Volkswagen reintroducing physical controls for vital functions
If what you are saying wpuld be true, Tesla drivers who also have another car wouldn't have 50% lower chance of getting into an accident in their Teslas.

https://electrek.co/2022/05/27/tesla-owners-less-likely-cras...

So we can conclude you are saying is not true at least as absolutely as you claim. Touch screen interfaces are not fundamentally less safe.

darthrupert··on It is hard to recommend Python in production
That's false even as a joke. C is less safe than either of python or Rust and has no benefits against Rust.
darthrupert··on It is hard to recommend Python in production
Now that Rust exists and llm can easily lift a more junior person over the initially difficult parts, there are not many things you should use python for.
darthrupert··on 'Elon killed my resale': Bay Area Tesla owners using stickers to avoid backlash
Fascinating tactic when you consider that damaging a Tesla is the only way Musk can get more money out of a used Tesla.

But I guess it's just mindless mob hatred.

darthrupert··on Moscow-based global news network has infected AI tools with propaganda
False dichotomy.
darthrupert··on Delta Chat – Email Based PGP Encrypted Chat
Do you think your whatsapp application is end-to-end encrypted on your device? They control the client so anything is possible.
darthrupert··on Moscow-based global news network has infected AI tools with propaganda
This is not a matter of opinion. Objective truth actually exists, and russian propaganda is a malicious distortion of it.
