I push my kids outside on the rainy days too. Of course, I make sure they are sufficiently dressed for the occasion.
Finding fun in the mundane is rewarding on many levels. Having a companion during these moments can cause these episodes of fun to turn into life long positive memories.
I use http://www.evernote.com/about/download/web_clipper.php and later add additional comments where needed.
I also use a pocket size Moleskine to keep ideas/thoughts/daily-journals. Some of my coworkers/friends refer to it as my Dr Jones journal.
We now limit to just 1/2 hour per day per child in a family of iphones, ipads, itv, laptops, kindle, etc.
As a result, our oldest who collectively has as much screen time as our youngest is into reading/writing, drawing and someday soon I intend to get her writing some code. Of course, your millage may very, and I'm not quick to judge others when it comes to parenting. Not an easy task.
You have an excellent idea and the space ripe for disruption because I for one dislike receipt management for expenditures. It is a necessary evil.
*I'm in no associated with any of the above.
My life (childhood, education, and career) have been touched in tremendously powerful way by this man and his passion.
RIP Steve.
Besides that, my first search attempt "www.domainsdoneright.com" brought up as unavailable for the TLDs com net and org. However using "domainsdoneright" brought up com as unavailable, net and org as available. I didn't check for accuracy using whois. Regardless, these results on your app should be consistent. You're going to need to filter for these alternate inputs.
I made a bunch of icons in Paint when I was 18. Sold them for $20 in AOL chat rooms. Received checks by mail. Looking back, it was a lot of hustle / border-line spam for little return.
Started two companies since then. Mostly consulting, freelancing, web programming, etc.
It is fun to watch a piece of history in the making. Very interesting.
As a former guild leader in World of Warcraft I can state that yes indeed it takes a certain level of finesse to get a group of 40 volunteers (out of 100+ members) motivated to accomplish an already pre established goal defined by Blizzard. The game has incentives already built into it and the formation of a guild is relatively easy process. WoW is truly gamification at its finest which is used as the primary motivator.
It was a lot of fun. But it was a huge time sink. So much so that to say it was distracting would not accurately describe it.
Word of warning: if you don't play it, don't start. Time is a valuable commodity which you can't earn back once it is spent. There are other ways to learn leadership/soft skills that are more productive.
"I returned that laptop to the store where I bought it and bought a higher Samsung model (R540) from another store."
I will wait for confirmation/proof in either direction before drawing any conclusion regarding possible "defamation" on the authors part.
As for Sennheiser's strategy to cripple the product line to handle a different marketing segment; it reminded me of a Steve Blank's post. http://steveblank.com/2009/04/16/supermac-war-story-7-buildi...
