dannyrosen··on Why Fogbugz lost to Jira
I brought Fogbugz into two organizations (100+ accounts) as a QA Engineer and it worked great -- when it came to bugs.

When we started doing agile (and then "Agile" ... ugh) development the entire process broke down. There were no (good) plugins that could do kanban and moving features from state to state to state dramatically increased the size of an items log. That, along with the friendly, and then suddenly not so friendly filtering lead to our team dropping the product and moving to Jira.

While Fogcreek's "Fastbugz" was a gallant effort in modernizing the application stack and speeding up page loading time, it fell short as it didn't functionality support feature _and_ bug management.

I should note, we had reached out to Fogcreek with all of our requests and critiques but they weren't interested in hearing us out passed the usual account or customer service manager.

dannyrosen··on Show HN: Similar Phone Finder
Very cool. Would be interesting to gain insight into how many ROMs are available for each device, as well as if there's an official Cyanogenmod release.
dannyrosen··on Trovebox – We Are Shutting Down
I'm a big fan of the current Trovebox product for hosting on my own, are there any projects out there that have similar functionality to what Trovebox currently offers that can be hosted?
dannyrosen··on Introducing Google Cast for audio
Surprised no one mentioned Mopidy[0] in the thread. From their github:

Mopidy is an extensible music server that plays music from local disk, Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play Music, and more. You edit the playlist from any phone, tablet, or computer using a range of MPD and web clients.

dannyrosen··on A Blockchain-based DNS and HTTP server
This is a very interesting and potentially groundbreaking solution. I'm just a tad bit concerned that the tech is represented by... a turtle.
dannyrosen··on Where KDE is Going – Part 1
I've been using Kubuntu for about 6 months. I was originally a Windows user looking to learn more about Linux and wasn't a big fan of the OSX UI. I went to KDE because it looked and acted like Windows but had the power of Linux underneath the hood.

I'm looking forward to the future of KDE and applaud the team for their effort and passion.

dannyrosen··on API Testing Service Runscope Raises $6M Series A
We use Runscope at Sailthru and are huge fans of the service.
dannyrosen··on The Fall of Hacker Groups
Sitting in a small room, with 6 others, building the next big SaaS product felt very much like it did 15 years ago on EFnet
dannyrosen··on Why San Francisco Is Not New York
I wouldn't mind an article titled: "Why New York is Not San Francisco"
dannyrosen··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (March 2014)
Sailthru (NYC based) is looking for Senior devs, test engineers / QA folks and sysadmins. We move fast and build crazy cool SaaS. Also, we're a best of class ESP (among many other feautres) Ping me @dannyzen for more info.
dannyrosen··on Ask HN: What Linux distro do you use for work, and why?
kubuntu. I came from Windows and love the ui. Ubuntu under the hood means noob and advanced support. Also, IMHO Konsole is one of the best terminal emulators around.
dannyrosen··on Facebook Buying WhatsApp for $16B in Cash and Stock Plus $3B in RSUs
It's about the user's contact graphs and making the connections stronger. They're buying user's phone books.
dannyrosen··on Google will make it easy for strangers to email you
Today is Christmas for the recruiting industry
dannyrosen··on Kim Dotcom: The Man Behind Mega [video]
Not entirely the most impartial exposé, but entertaining nonetheless
dannyrosen··on How Healthcare.gov Changed the Software Testing Conversation
It should be noted that testing consists of such a wide array of tasks that it's often as hard to find the right people than it is to identify the right type of testing they should perform.

While performance and load testing on Healthcare.gov should be obvious tasks we get into murky territory when asking questions like: Does the UI need to be tested more than the APIs that power it? Will the value of automated end-to-end testing be deprecated after a UI refresh takes place? (Will there be a UI refresh?) How much time should be put into scalable UI tests? Are automated smoke tests enough?

I could go on, but the question I'd like answered is what did the actual testing plan consist of?

dannyrosen··on Ask HN: Best current model routers for OpenWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato, etc.?
I'm also running Merlin's build on the RT-AC66U. 802.11ac speeds with custom firmware, excellent ui and a rich feature set.
dannyrosen··on The Ongoing Battle: NY vs. SF Tech Scene
If NYC stays strong expect Long Island to grow with it. Office space is dramatically lower on the island and projects like "Nassau Works" look to centralize the tech hiring, making it easier to transition to more living space for less money.
dannyrosen··on Winamp shutting down on December 20th, 2013
Great work, that takes me back.
dannyrosen··on Show HN: A Dashboard for External Monitors
The product offering is tremendous. I just find asking your customers to completely rebuild their boards to be iinappropriate. That is what turned me off to the service.
dannyrosen··on Show HN: A Dashboard for External Monitors
We used Geckoboard for a bit but stopped due to their terrible support and high pricing
dannyrosen··on HackNY Fall 2013 Final Demos Livestream

dannyrosen··on Kim Dotcom's New Mega Encrypted Cloud Storage
http://www.spideroak.com has been doing this for years. Nothing new to see here.
dannyrosen··on Is Poke Proof That The Facebook API Is A Trojan Horse?
Before we adorn our tinfoil hats and assume that the first thing the Facebook "Biz Dev" guys look at in the morning is their API stats, maybe this is an exercise in "Empowering" internal employees to work on side projects not directly associated with their core product. It also lends for a great headline about their dev culture which in turn attracts more dev talent.
dannyrosen··on Whonix: Anonymous Operating System
Interested in thoughts from the hn community on this distro.
